*Digital Cinema captures, distribute, and projects
motion pictures using digital technology
*A movie can be distributed via hard drives, the
Internet, dedicated satellite links or optical
disks such as DVDs and Blu-ray Discs. Digital
movies are projected using a digital projector
instead of a conventional film projector
*
*High-definition video is video of higher
resolution than is standard-definition
*Generally any video image with more than 480
horizontal lines (North America) or 576 lines
(Europe) is considered high-definition.
*Images of standard resolution captured at rates
faster than normal (60 frames/second North
America, 50 fps Europe), by a high-speed
camera may be considered high-definition in
some contexts
*
*2K - A Digital Cinema picture that is 2048 pixels
wide by 1080 pixels high, 6.67% more pixels
than consumer high definition TV picture, which
is 1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels high
*4K – Digital Cinema picture with four times the
number of pixels of 2K, 4096 wide by 2160
high. The 4K differences is visible, especially to
viewers toward the front of the auditorium and
especially with stadium seating.
*
*A DCP is a set of files containing the picture,
sound, subtitles and meta data that are the
result of the encoding, encryption and
packaging process. This is the format that the
majority of digital cinemas require. DCP often
refers to the media containing the set of files,
which is distributed to theatres.
*
*The aspect ratio of a display is the proportional
relationship between the width of a display
and its height
*Around the year 2000 the DVDs and TV
broadcasts shifted from 4:3 to 16:9. Today the
TV and DVDs are in 16:9
*In data processing or viewing 4:3 material such
as older films, older TV broadcasts or older
digital photographs, the widescreen (16:9,
16:10) will be letterboxed
*
*The display resolution of a digital television,
computer monitor or display device is the
number of distinct pixels in each dimension
that can be displayed.
*Cinema Resolutions
*2K Digital Cinema (2048x1080)
*4K Digital Cinema (4096x2160)
*8K Digital Cinema (8192x4608)
*
*A 3D film is a motion picture that enhances the
illusion of depth perception
*Regular motion picture camera system is used
to record the images as seen from two
perspectives, and special projection hardware
and/or eyewear are used to provide the illusion
of depth when viewing the film.
*
* 4D film or 4-D film is a marketing term for an entertainment
presentation system combining a 3D film with physical
effects that occur in the theatre in synchronization with the
film.
* Because physical effects can be expensive to install, 4D films
are most often presented in custom-built theatres at special
venues such as theme parks and amusement parks.
* Effects simulated in a 4D film may include rain, wind, strobe
lights, and vibration.
* Seats in 4D venues may vibrate or move a few inches during
the presentations. Other common chair effects include air
jets, water sprays, and leg and back ticklers.
* Hall effects may include smoke, rain, lightning, air bubbles,
and special smells.
