When I first came to this class, I
figured I would learn how to use a
SMARTboard and maybe some other
tips and tricks. If I had a philosophy of
teachnology, it was probably along the
lines of know how to use your
board, and test your links ahead of
time.
Developing My Philosophy of
Teachnology
Technology Today
This course has made me realize what an impact
technology has had on our day-to-day lives and
those of our students. Technology is
everywhere, and our students do not remember a
time when that wasn’t so. As the Generation Z
article we looked at mentions, students born
between 1995 and 2010 are ‘digital natives’ who
are constantly connected with devices. Ignoring
technology in the classroom is not an option
because otherwise we will be left behind by our
students.
Technology Today
I want to control the technology in my classroom, not
have it control me.
MOS Technology

Digital footprint
Since technology is everywhere, I realized that
having a good digital footprint is a new and
important professional consideration to be
successful. Employers will Google you, and
inappropriate Facebook photos will come back to
haunt you. I need to consider my own footprint, and
my students understanding of their own online
actions.
Digital Footprint
I have to begin to create my own digital footprint
and Professional Learning Network. This ePortfolio
is a good start, but I need to work on creating a
professional online presence for myself. I do not
have a lot of my life on the internet, but if I want to
become a teacher I want to have a strong and
positive presence for employers, parents and
students to find. Just as teachers are held to higher
standards of behaviour outside the classroom, they
need that same standard online.
Digital Footprint
I also need to teach my students how to create and
protect their own digital footprints. Their entire lives
will be online; I need to teach them how to manage
their own information. They need to understand this
in order for them to be successful later in life, and
not stopped by some stupid drunk pictures from
high school.
Digital Footprint
It is important as a teacher to maintain a strong and
professional digital footprint for employers, parents
and students to be able to access.
I need to teach my students about the effects of
their own digital footprints and how to create a
professional presence while protecting their privacy.
TPACK
I had heard of TPACK before this class, but I hadn’t
really considered the technology part of it before. I
didn’t understand how technology could stand on
equal ground with pedagogy and content in a
classroom. Technology, in my mind, was dependent
on whether or not your classroom had a projector
or a SMARTboard, and how your lessons would be
affected by it. Now realizing the importance of
technology in everyday life I understand how
important it is to carefully consider its part in your
lesson.
TPACK
TP: How technology can
help you to achieve the
desired effect of your
pedagogy that you couldn’t
before
TC: Using
technology to
improve or deepen
understanding of
your lesson
TK: We need to teach students how to control
technology and use new and different tools so
that they can be comfortable in our
increasingly digital world.
TPACK: Allowing technology to achieve your pedagogy while improving
understanding in new ways by your students and yourself mastering new
technology and tools.
TPACK
One thing I want to make certain of is that I always
use technology for a purpose. I don’t want to use
the latest and greatest just because it is shiny and
new. Technology is meant to help us, so I want to
use the simplest method to achieve my content and
pedagogical goals.
TPACK
When considering TPACK, I want technology to
support and enhance pedagogy and content
knowledge so that it is always used for a clear
purpose.

Philosophy of Teachnology So
Far…
I want to control the technology in my classroom, not
have it control me.

Philosophy of Teachnology So
Far…
My current philosophy is short, but as I continue to
grow as a teacher and develop my own teacher
identity and teaching philosophy it will change with
me.
I have a base to work from but I know that my
teachnology will always be changing as technology
itself continues to transform our world.
