6. How to involve a parent who isn’t willing to be
involved
 Send out monthly letters encouraging parent
involvement
 Open house
 Sign-up sheets for field trips, in class activities and
snacks
 Conferences
 Send out a list of activities and a parent has to pick at
least one

7. Who supports parent
involvement?
- Supporting parent involvement is
important in programs such as
ECEAP and Head Start, which set
out to provide long-lasting aids for
early learning.
- These programs support the idea of
collaboration. Establishing mutual
trust and respect with parents is
essential when providing
information and resources regarding
their children's education.
- When you get to know parents and
gain their respect, you are better
able to recognize each family's
strengths and needs, and will be
better able to assess what you can do
for their child.

8. Resources for Family Involvement:
Department of Early Learning
 Where can parents go for support?
- Parents who become involved with their children’s
education, may become advocates for early learning
and/or parent involvement in grade school and later
education.
- - Parents who are new to the idea of being involved in
their child’s education, can receive help from other
parents, as well as educators.
 Parent-Teacher Associations
- The P.T.A. gives parents the opportunity to work with
schools, communities, and other parents.
- -Provides a place for parents and educators to voice
opinions on involvement.

9. Resources for Educators:
Teachers need help, too!
 -The U.S. Department of Education assists new
teachers in connecting with parents, and how to take
extra steps to become a part of the learning
community outside of the classroom.
- Networking with other teachers is probably the best
way to gain insight on parent-teacher interaction. You
can learn from their experiences, and share your own.
