Evaluation - Who would be the audience for your media product

I have researched the BBFC and matched the content of my
treatment to the factors of each age rating, because there are
forms of strong violence and many of the other aspects below, I
think that the BBFC would make the rating of my opening title
sequence a15+.

3. However, Although our rating may be a 15, our demographic is
aimed at young girls and women up to the ages of 15-35
 We have a large demographic audience based on age because of
the representations in our sequence, however, our audience would
be targeted at mainly females. This is because of the lack of action
which our Thriller film involves. Our film is focused more on the mind
of the suspect, rather than the action. This is seen to be more
appealing to women as they would be interested and wanting to
be aware of how some people may think, in comparison to
males, who, by recent surveys, have shown to be more interested in
action.


The treatment of our film is quite emotional, it involves
crime, families, kidnappings, murder and death. Therefore our psychographic will be
people who are interested in investigations and abduction documentaries. Those of
a particular religion may disagree with the content of our movie as it involves
violence and others may disagree with the sexual frustration aspect of the film.
However, we have based our psychographic audience around their interest in crime
and views on injustice. These range of people should generally have the same
attitudes towards the subject, being that it is wrong but intriguing in the sense that
they want to know more about the sick minds of particular groups of people. This is
seen in Our Opening Title Sequence as we have taken the idea of manikins and
recreations of the human body from the film ‘The Call’, in order to capture a similar
psychographic audience as them.

I think that our film will appeal to this woman as
she is a typical motherly figure and enjoys real life situation programmes. She
also has a teenage daughter of her own, and would therefore be able to
relate to our film.
The movies she enjoys are a range of thriller and romcom movies, these show
that she is interested in emotional, quite expressive movies, alongside films of
the thriller/crime genre, which is similar to the genre of my opening title
sequence showing that the likelihood of her being interested in our film would
be high.

Although my audience is directed at 15-35 year
old females. There is still an element of action
and exhilaration within the movie, which would
appeal to the more male audience. Therefore
our movie has met the target criteria for our
demographic and psychographic
audience, and has also included elements of
interest for a wider audience also. This is
important as a wider audience would mean
there is a larger likelihood of our movie
becoming more successful. However, having a
set target audience is crucial as it gives an aim
and set mood for the movie to focus on
throughout.
