What is included in the promotional
package for paranormal activity 4?
In the promotional package for Paranormal Activity 4 there are many ways in which the
film is promoted. These include:
• Trailers
• Posters
• Radio
• Audience reaction AD
• Merchandising
• Social media
• Smartphone App
Trailers
There are 2 official trailers for paranormal activity 4, a minor trailer that has a
small insight to the main trailer and the film, and the official trailer that is longer
than the first trailer and is the official trailer that is played in cinemas and on TV.
These trailers are usually shown mid way through the campaign just before the
films are released in cinemas because they use words like ‘coming soon’ therefore
if the trailers were released too early then the audience might loose interest in the
film and may feel like they have been waiting too long for the film to get released
into cinemas.

There are 2 official posters for
paranormal activity 4. These are
snap shots of the scenes in the film
to give a small insight of what
might happen and to lure the
audience in. The posters include a
review of the film this is used
because this would allow the
audience to know what other
people think of the film therefore
this would hopefully persuade
other people to go and see the
film. These posters are put up on
buses, bus stops, cinemas, and on
the side of telephone boxes, this is
so the promotion of the film
reaches all classes that may want
to watch the film in the cinema.
Radio
Paranormal activity 4 used the radio for promotion because this would allow
everyone travelling in cars who are listening to the radio to know that the film is
coming out and it introduce the film to new potential audience.
Audience reaction AD
Paranormal activity also uses an audience reaction video online that potential
audience can view, this allows people to see how other people react to the film and
this would hopefully persuade the audience to go and watch the film to see if they
get the ‘edge of their seats’ feeling and get chills like what the audience do.

Merchandising
Paranormal activity 4 has a number of official merchandise that the audience and
fans of the film can buy. This includes t-shirts and mugs, this would allow members
of the public to see the film on a t-shirt that someone Is wearing and might think
that the film is good enough to go and see. This is a fun and effective way of
promotion for the film because the consumers would enjoy having the
merchandise and the film gets lots of promotion that is free.
Social media
Paranormal activity 4 uses social media such as twitter and facebook in their
promotional campaign. This is because a lot of the targeted audience use a lot of
social networking sites therefore they would be able to look up and keep in touch
with the film easily by logging into twitter and facebook. Also this would allow the
film to gain a larger audience because they would be able to reach out worldwide
quickly and easily by creating a twitter page and a facebook page.

Smartphone App
As part of the promotion package for Paranormal activity 4, there is a smart phone
app. This allows the audience who download the app to win tickets to a special
pre-release screening of Paranormal Activity 4 and also Paranormal Activity
merchandise. They can enter this competition by creating their own custom Ptch
for a chance to win the tickets and the merchandise. Because a lot of people now
have a smart phone this allows a lot of people to download it and it is free
therefore this would persuade more people to download it.

What elements relate to the genre of the film?
Is it promoted on the strength of its genre?
I believe the elements in Paranormal Activity 4’s promotional package do relate to
the horror genre because they include how other films in the horror genre are
promoted. E.g., Sinister was advertised on the radio, it also made a number of
trailers and posters as well as a twitter and facebook page.
I think that the film is promoted on the strength of its genre because every way
possible that the film could be promoted, the promoters have more or less done
that type of promotion in one way or another to make the film reach out to the
largest amount of audience as possible.
What unique selling point does the
campaign emphasise?
The paranormal activity 4 promotion campaign emphasises the USP of the fact
that is the audience go and see it they will be ‘on the edge of their seats’ and
have goose pumps all over the body and the hairs on their back of their neck will
stand up because they will be scared all the way through the film as it has many
thrills throughout the film. This is emphasised through out the promotion
campaign as the audience reaction AD shows how the audience feel and react
when watching the film.
