4. Abstract
■
■
■
During 2003 to 2013, FOSS has been playing a more
important role in government, ITC industry, school and
community in Taiwan in the decade gradually.
In this talk, I will introduce the development of FOSS
from public sector, ITC industry, academic and
educational circle, and community aspects, including the
problem and difficulty we face and the result of our work.
In addition, I also talk about the future from the
observation of the facts and context mentioned above.

21. Industry Adoption
■
■
■
The main industry in Taiwan is Information and
Communication Technology.
There are few software companies in Taiwan, most of
the ICT companies are OEM/ODM hardware
manufacturers.
TW companies use open source software, because we
don't want to pay license royalty instead of

■
■
“Community” is a required element to build a healthy
circumstance of FOSS.
Let me tell a story about TW FOSS communities'
development in these 10 yrs.
68. Community Development
■
■
■
“Community” is a required element to build a healthy
circumstance of FOSS.
It's hard to build communities by government itself.
Government should incubate communities by
establishing an infrastructure.

■
Community is a long-term support of FOSS.
