3. My media products predominantly use conventions of real
music videos, Digipaks and magazine adverts.
Before I started to film my music video I stared to research into
different conventions of a indie rock video. I looked at bands
music video’s such as Coldplay, The Script, You Me At Six and
the Killers and took great inspiration from them. I also wanted
to use the information that a member of the actual band had
told me, this was that the song was about one of his friends
that had passed away from drowning. I felt like I had to make
the video represent how slow moving on from a death is but
how it does get better over time. I also felt that it was key that
the video was shot by water.

5. Lip Syncing
Lip syncing is probably the most
important convention when making a
music video of any genre. If the words
don’t match what you are saying you
will loose your audience, its as simple
as that.
So obviously I used this technique in
my music video. Because I want the
audience to feel a connection with
the performer, I had to make sure
that he got the words right and made
it look believable.
I felt that I did this well and I got the
result that I wanted in the end.
6. Performance
Having my music video as all
performance based was really idea that
I thought would work well for this song.
This being because I felt that I could
use more creative techniques if I was to
do a performance piece.
It allowed me to get into the band and
show the inner working of how they
played and I feel that my audience
would prefer to see their artists
performing than pretending to be in a
fake make believe world.
7. Mise En Scene
I decided to challenge the conventions
I found whilst researching for Mise en
scene. This was mainly because of the
budget restrictions and most of the
videos I researched were shot in
extreme locations or had show off
outfits. But I think that it makes my
video more real. Its not the artists
saying; look I'm better than you, I can
wear expensive clothes and travel to
amazing locations and afford the best
equipment.
They are liberating the audience by
being exactly like than which sticks to
one of my objectives which was to
interact with the audience.
9. Extreme Close ups.
I wanted to split the video
in two halves so for the
second part of the video,
where the tempo of the
music quickens, I decided to
change how close the
audience go to the
performer. This challenged
the conventions of normal
indie-rock music video’s
because they tend to either
use different camera shots
throughout the video. I did
this because I wanted the
audience in first half of the
video to feel a little
distanced from the
performers.
10. Other shots
• In contrast to what I said in the
slide before. Throughout the
video I did use the conventions
that I found whilst researching.
This being that indie rock
videos tend to use a range of
different shot types in their
video’s.
• They almost all use an
establishing shot at the start of
the video to show where the
video is. They also use close
ups, medium shots, long shots,
tracking and handheld cameras
all of which i used in my music
video
11. Editing
• The main editing style that I
used was dissolving technique. I
manly used this technique
because I wanted to show
fluidity, like water, to connote
the death of the band members
friend.
• Another technique that used
was to cut on the beat, this was
because it makes the video look
more crisp and edgeless.
