2. My names Emma I’m 16 years old and I am currently taking a course in multi
media journalism this is expanding my knowledge on media and teaching me
how much social media effects behaviours and opinions with many other
skills.
My dream job is an Public relations officer this is about managing a reputation,
a career in public relations requires supporting and understanding clients as
well as influencing opinions and behaviour. PR’s use many different ways to
build and keep the clients reputation including using social media. This is my
dream job because I love social media and how powerful it is and I would love
to work with all different kinds of people and build relationships with them.
PR’s usually work from 30 to 40 hours per week, the job includes many
different roles including;
• planning PR campaigns and strategies.
• monitoring the public and medias opinion of your client.
• Writing and editing leaflets, press releases, speeches, newsletters etc..
• Developing good relationships with the media.

4. My plan
Currently I am in college I am also looking into work experience, from this I would
love to go to university to study a course in public relations and achieve an degree,
there is no specific requirements for Public relations but the industry is very
competitive and many employers would expect you to have a degree, to become a
public relations officer you need to have a background in
• Journalism or advertising
• Marketing and communications
• Business or management
• English
• Politics
And because the PR industry is so competitive I want to get as much experience as I
can. Volunteering at an media related work places I can while at university to make
my self more experienced in the industry.
Ideally I would leave university and college with all the qualifications and degrees I
need and apply for PR roles and work my way up.
At the moment I am also interested in graphic designs because I am enjoying that
subject in college, I would enjoy working in that environment because its creative
and you have to be imaginative for the job and I love thinking of ideas art related.
5. Usually you will develop your skills on the job. If you intend on working
for one of the larger employers, this may be through a structured
training scheme.
Professional bodies such as CIPR and PRCA also offer qualifications
that will help to develop your professional skills. CIPR courses can be
studied online and at colleges on a part-time basis. PRCA courses are
offered online and face to face at their centres in cities like London,
Bristol and Manchester.
I would like to be a PR in a fashion company or a company very
popular and in the public eye because I love fashion and keeping up
with what’s the latest trend and I think it would be very interesting
seeing how the companies can keep a good reputation, I think I would
have to start of at not so well known shops to get experience so then I
could work up to more well known shops, I also think working in a
fashion company would let me to be more creative with how the
company is seen in the public eye.

There are many more jobs for PR’s at the moment, I think I will try and

experience and make myself as qualified as I can be to get my final dream
job.
7. Work experience
For work experience I would like to work in a radio station or
newspaper company, I believe this will help me learn how much
social media effects the publics opinions and behavior. And it
could also help me build up contacts for my dream career.
I’ve been looking into an radio called ‘smooth radio’ it is located
in Hampshire so there wouldn't’t be a problem getting to and
from there everyday. I have been drafting a covering letter to
suit the radio station. I believe this would help me with my final
goal because its work experience in media.
