We are increasingly spending more time immersed in media and losing touch with our true selves, but as social animals, how can we stay grounded and make a difference? A survey found 88% of people think they can make a difference. There is a question of whether machines will one day rule over humans, and whether in the future one's online presence and personal branding will become more important than their education in determining their career. The document calls for people to take control of how they use and present themselves through media.
1. we devote more and more of our lives to media and as we lose ourselves in media… we try to hang on to who we think we are (or want to be) but… we are social animals so: how can we keep it real and make a difference?
2. “ The upshot is simply a question of time, but that the time will come when the machines will hold the real supremacy over the world and its inhabitants” (1863)
13. “ the extent to which people use social networking and promote themselves online will become more important in determining their careers than what school or university they went to.”
14. “ If you don’t brand yourself, will brand you”
in the early 1950s, 12% of teens aged 14 to 16 agreed with the statement 'I am an important person’ by the late 1980s, 80% claimed they were important
living our lives inside of a mediated environment (like Facebook encourages to) can actually help us to see ourselves as deeply connected to others, if we’re willing to let go of our self-absorption.
