The aim of this paper was to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence, psychological well-being and self-esteem among hearing-impaired students. Data from 36 hearing-impaired students were collected using simple random sampling at the Federation Special Education National Secondary School Penang, Malaysia. The Bar-On Emotional Quotient: Short (EQ-i: S) instrument, Ryff‘s psychological well-being and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale were utilised to examine emotional intelligence, psychological well-being and self-esteem. Dimensions of emotional intelligence consist of intrapersonal, interpersonal, adaptability, stress management, and general mood while psychological well-being dimensions consist of selfacceptance, positive relations with others, autonomy, environmental mastery, purpose in life and personal growth. Results indicated a moderate level of emotional intelligence, psychological well-being and self-esteem. Significant positive correlations were found between self-esteem and overall emotional intelligence, overall psychological well-being, emotional intelligence dimensions (intrapersonal, interpersonal, adaptability, stress management, and general mood) and psychological well-being dimensions (autonomy and environmental mastery). No significant correlation was found between the four dimensions of psychological well-being namely self-acceptance, positive relations with others, environmental mastery and personal growth. The findings of this study will enable the education authority to direct their special students in a way that best suits the institution and students goals.

In this profoundly significant book, author Michael Gurian has revised and updated his groundbreaking book that clearly demonstrated how the distinction in hard-wiring and socialized gender differences affects how boys and girls learn. Gurian presents a proven method to educate our children based on brain science, neurological development, and chemical and hormonal disparities. The innovations presented in this book were applied in the classroom and proven successful, with dramatic improvements in test scores, during a two-year study that Gurian and his colleagues conducted in six Missouri school districts. Explores the inherent differences between the developmental neuroscience of boys and girls Reveals how the brain learns Explains when same sex classrooms are appropriate, and when they’re not This edition includes new information on a wealth of topics including how to design the ultimate classroom for kids in elementary, secondary, middle, and high school.

Development of a nation depends on its young lot, socialized in a balanced, supportive, caring, and motivational neighborhood milieu. Today’s kids are tomorrow’s leaders, teachers, scholars, poets, writers, workers, doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs, laborers, etc. The environment where they are spending the prime and basic part of their life (initial 3-15 years) may be one of the important stages associated to their future role. In other words, they can be either mold into productive well beings or confused, clueless, and misguided individuals. The present study is designed with the aim to measure the level of emotional intelligence of the young members of my neighborhood with the objective to predict the future of our kids

People vary significantly in the type of events they experience as stress and the way they respond to these events. The experiences and their perceptions mostly depend on individual personality, which is very unique and personal to each & every one. We experience an abundance of different kinds of emotions which are sometimes positive like satisfaction, contentment, joy and, many a times negative. Negative emotional experiences and thoughts compromise our physical, social, and psychological wellbeing along with detrimental effects on intellectual functioning. As our experiences vary with our temperaments, it is likely that our tendency to experience positive emotions or negative emotions will remain fairly stable over our lifespan. To put it differently, our tendency to be positive or negative over a wide range of situations reflects the personality makeup.

Being a designer at a startup usually means you have to split yourself in half. You sometimes have to let the other parts of your role at the startup take priority over design. This was a small presentation to the current batch at 500 Startups Accelerator on how to design and build a product that your customers love.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong) ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in 1994. Participation rights under Article 12 of the CRC states that State Parties should ensure that children’s views are given due weight on matters affecting them (Article 12 CRC, 1989). Pupils’ voice is often attributed to this Article and has consequently become a growing area of concern in schools (Lundy, 2007). Despite the international call for increased pupil voice in schools, there is currently a dearth of literature in regard to children’s voice in primary schools in Hong Kong (Forde et al., 2018). The Concluding Observations by the Committee states that there is a lack of “effective and broad mechanisms…to promote and facilitate respect for the views of all children and children’s participation in all matters affecting them” in Hong Kong (CRC, 2013). As a Chinese Confucian society, Hong Kong places respect to teachers at the highest priority and children are expected to not challenge or question them (Ng, 1996, 2001). Therefore, this research aims to understand the extent of which children believe they have participation rights in a faith school in Hong Kong and whether school leaders and parents understand children’s rights. Departing from an interpretivist perspective, this research draws on 12 semi-structured one-on-one interviews to better understand the participants’ lived experiences and views of children’s voice at school. The initial findings suggest that tenants and values stemming from Confucianism play a significant role as to why children’s voice is often not encouraged within the school as academic success is prioritized. However, students demonstrate forms of agency by articulating their personal views and voice. Ultimately, this demonstrates conflict between the children’s prescribed behaviours stemming from Confucian culture and their own autonomous thinking.
