Evaluation question 3- What have you learned from your audience feedback
What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
1. What have you learnt from your
audience feedback
Megan Loveys
2. Throughout the process of creating my music video I always had a
question in the back of my mind
“What will my target audience think?” so for my audience
feedback, I decided that it would be most beneficial for me to
create a questionnaire and ask my audience to fill it out.
Questionnaires allow personal feedback which I thought would
help me to create the best overall product for my audience.
I have included a copy of my whole questionnaire below.
3. The first question I asked my target audience was “What do you
think the main message of the music video is?”
The majority of my target audience answered this question how I
expected, they all discussed with me how they felt the video was
expressing love, friendship, loss and memories. These are all key
conventions that I made sure I involved throughout the creation
of my music video.A slight fault of mine could be that some of my
audience thought that the main message was about someone
losing their best friend when in fact it was her sister, so I have
learnt that it is important to clearly identify relationships between
characters in the future.
4. The second question I asked was “How do you think the main
character is feeling throughout most of the video?”
Everyone answered with ‘sad’ or ‘frustrated’ which is exactly
what I was hoping for. I think it was important for me to ask
my target audience how they felt about the feelings expressed
in my music video as I wanted to be sure that I had created
the correct feel for my genre. It was key that my audience
became aware of the flow of emotion I made a priority when
creating my music video, the lyrics and key of the song itself
allowed me to stick to this idea quite effectively.
5. Next, I asked “Did you enjoy the video, yes/no? Why?”
Everyone answered this question with ‘yes’ but for a few different
reasons. One main opinion was because they enjoyed the fact
that it is a very emotional video, which is exactly what I would
expect of this particular target audience.Another thing my target
audience said they liked about the video was the ‘home video’
section of it.This was the section of my video where I chose to
challenge ‘normal’ conventions of this genre. Indie/pop has lots of
different songs that fall into the genre and I noticed that a lot of
them involve certain parts of their videos where they challenge
conventions, so I decided to include a section of this in my own
video.
6. The next question I asked my audience was “What would you
change about the video(if applicable)?”
A lot of people chose not to comment on this question as they
didn’t feel anything needed changing, however a couple of people
had some slight changes they would make. Firstly, I was advised to
include more cuts in the video, I think this is good criticism as it
allowed me to become aware of what my target audience would
like to see more of. I would agree with this comment and in
future I will be able to keep this in mind as I do believe it could
make my video more interesting. As I briefly mentioned before, a
few people were unsure about the relationship between the two
girls. I will definitely learn from this mistake and I am now aware
that the audience like to know everything about the character.
7. Finally, I asked “Would the video encourage you to go out and
buy the song/album, yes/no? Why?”
My target audience are mainly females but I chose to ask one
male who liked the sound of the song. He suggested that even
though he was a fan of the actual song, he wouldn’t look at this
type of music video as it is not a genre he is particularly
interested in. I didn’t see this as a big problem because he is not
part of my target audience.
However, the rest of my audience said that the video played a big
part in encouraging them to want to buy the song, they suggested
that due to the music video they felt as if they knew a lot more
about the artists personal life and this would persuade them to
want
to buy the song or album.
