Adiabatic temperature changes
   and expansion and cooling
 Air that changes with out heating or cooling.
 Dry adiabatic is the rate of cooling or heating in non
      saturated air
 Wet adiabatic rate is the cooling

es/chapter6/graphics/adiab_warming.gif
Orographic lifting
 Or graphic lifting of air is happens in elevated
      terrains like mountain
 It acts as a boundary and the air flows up ward

http://web.mst.edu/~rogersda/umrcourses/
ge301/press&siever12.3.png
Frontal Wedging
 Front is a boundary between were warm and cold air
      meat
 Occurs when cold dence air acts a blanket over the
      warmer air

nter.cuny.edu/~tbw/wc.n
otes/4.moisture.atm.stabi
lity/frontal.wedging.jpg
Localized convection
 Occurs when the earths surface heats makes a warm
pocket of air warmer then the rest
 It lowers the air pockets density

stability
 Air that’s stable usually stays in the same spot
 Air that’s unstable usually rises
 The most stable air conditions are temperature
inversions they are when the temperature of the air
       goes up with height

Condensation
 Condensation can only occur if the air is saturated
 The types of condensation are dew, fog, and clouds
     Condensation

Cloud types
 Clouds are categorized by there height and there
      form
 One type of clouds are cirrus there thin and fluffy
 Cumulus are the other type of clouds they are
      individual
 And the last type of clouds are status clouds have
layers and cover most of the sky

http://eo.ucar.edu/webweather/images/clou
dchart.gif
High Clouds
 Three types of high clouds are
      cirrus, cirrostratus, and cirrocumulus
     Cirrocumulus is fluffy
     Cirrostratus are thin layers
 Cirrus clouds cover the sky

http://www.bigbranch.net/195.jpg
Middle clouds
 Middle clouds are any were form 2000 to 6000 meters
 They are made up of bigger partials then all the other
      clouds
 They are a grayish cover

http://www.bigbranch.net/168.jpg
Low Clouds
 There are three types of low clouds
      stratus, stratocumulus, and nimbostratus
 Stratus clouds are fog like clouds that cover the sky
      most of the time
 Stratocumulus clouds are ling roles
 Nimbostratus clouds are rain clouds

Cloud of Vertical development
 They are associated with unstable air
 They are around in fair wheather
 They usually end up making a rain cloud

Fog
 There are two different reasons for fog cooling and
  evaporation
 Cooling fog occurs when moist air from the pacific
moves over the California current then its pushed on
  by prevailing winds
 Fog caused by evaporation happens when cool moves
over water if the air gets moist enough fog happens
Cold Cloud Precipitation (Bergeron
process)
 It’s a theory that relates to the formation of
precipitation to super cooled clouds, freezing
nuclei, and level difference of liquid water and ice.
 water in a liquid state under 0 is said to be super cold
 If super cold water touches an object it will freeze
Warm cloud
 When air is saturated fully it’s the same as ice that’s
  fully saturated
 The collision coalescence process is a theory of how
raindrops form in warm cloud making cloud droplets
collide to for a rain drop
Rain and snow
 The types of precipitation are rain and snow
 Rain is water falling from clouds when the
temperatures is above 4 at the service
 Snow happens when low temperatures and low
moisture and is made up of six sided crystals
Sleet, Glaze and Hail
 Sleet is the fall of clear ice a layer of air has to over line
the ground for it to occur
 Glaze is freezing rain it happens when becomes super
  cold
 Hail begins as little ice balls that get bigger when super
cold water droplet stick to it as it falls to the surface
