4. Research: Ethnographic-Survey Monkey How much would you donate? Multiple gifts or a one-time gift? Note: Some survey-takers answered only one part of the two part question: How much money would you be willing to donate? And how often? ie.) multiple gifts or a one-time gift? Consequently, the number of people that answered this specific question changes a bit.
5. Research: Ethnographic-Survey Monkey What percentage of your donation do you think actually goes to the cause? Would you be more comfortable donating to a bigger/smaller organization?
6. Research: Interviews Ryan, 25 Engineer “I will be more willing to donate regularly, later in my career but I wouldn’t mind making donations occasionally right now” “I would prefer an online donation method because texting your donation sounds kind of “shady” and I don’t really have time to be mailing donations in” “I would love to donate to all kinds of organizations but I just want to make sure my donation is secure and going to the right place”
7. Shay, 23 Bank Of America Associate/Student “I would most likely donate about $20 monthly to a child sponsorship organization” “BOA has been going through recent changes in their whole banking platform” “I feel like right now BOA would be willing to add to their existing online banking interface” “People may be more inclined to donate more money through their online banking account”
8. Andrew, 22 NYU Student “Right now, I will be willing to donate to disaster relief because of everything happening in Japan” “I would prefer online donations because It would be easier to do than all of the other options” “I would probably donate sporadically right now because I don’t have a steady income as a college student”
9. Jenny, 24 Parsons Student “I’m open to making donations right now to disaster relief” “The convenience of making online donations would best fit my lifestyle” “If I had a more stable income, I would donate often but right now I have to many expenses to worry about”
11. Idea Brainstorming Tracking donation payments We initially came up with a system that would help donators track the exact disbursement of their donations. We found that this system would become problematic because it is logistically difficult to track specific donating dollars during times of relief or disaster, when money is given to people or situations most in need once it is received. Programs that deal with child sponsorship make it easier to track payments but other donating industries make it difficult to do so. Organization We wanted to create a partnership with large corporations, such as the Red Cross, to focus specifically on crisis relief and create a system to maintain awareness about the importance of donating to such organizations. This idea was too broad and needed refinement in order to keep in touch with our initial focus of making donators feel more “safe” and “connected” to organizations.
12. Introducing MyDonations! We have come up with a web interface that will be implemented on all of the major online banking platforms. MyDonations allows online banking users to conveniently donate money through their online bank system to crisis/disaster relief organizations. We will work in conjunction with the major banks to implement this new donating system onto their existing online banking interface.
