This Week’s Academics
Class Info
Spelling -
This week we looked at compound words like  AR Reading – Students should be at 85% of
doghouse. Students struggled on knowing if it their AR goals.
was a compound word or 2 separate words.
 March Character Trait- Our trait is Mercy.
Next week we will look for errors in written
words.
 Girls on the Run – GOTR will begin
Reading- practicing next week on Tues. and Thurs.
We finished Maniac Magee this week. The
students learned a lot about the tough life  March Is Reading Month- Keep encouraging
Maniac had, and they learned how to predict your child to read at least 15 minutes at
what was going to happen next. home. I know I want to take a book out to
read in the beautiful weather we have been
Writing- experiencing!
This week we have focused on the steps of the
writing process. Students did some prewriting  Writing to an Author- We are wrapping up
activities, drafted their letter, and our letters to our authors. If you would like
participated in revising and editing it. to send in stamps or envelopes we would
appreciate any help to defray the cost.
Math-
We are working on Division! Students would
definitely benefit from some more practice on  Battle at the Beach – We will be having our
2 digit by 2 digit multiplication. Battle of the Books on March 30th. Students
will be participating in the gym to see which
Science- team can recall the most about the books that
Begin assembling that science Fair project. they have been reading.
The Science Fair is scheduled for April 11.
Boards are due before Spring BreakI am

I know that we recently had a wonderful Mar. 27 – Parent University (A great time to
book fair, but I wanted to send home the come and learn about topics for Parents)
April book orders. They will be due on Mar. 28 – Author Assembly 2-2:45
March 23rd. If you would like to order you Mar. 30 – Battle of the Books Competition
may fill out the forms and return them or Mar. 31-April 8 – Spring Break
