Research into specific
features- logo’s
By Nicole mcclelland
Warner brothers
Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc., formerly known as Warner Bros. Studios, commonly referred to as
Warner Bros. (spelled Warner Brothers during the company's early years), or simply WB—is an American
producer of film, television, and music entertainment.
One of the major film studios, it is a subsidiary of Time Warner, with its headquarters in Burbank,
California and New York. Warner Bros. has several subsidiary companies, including Warner Bros. Studios,
Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television, Warner Bros.
Animation, Warner Home Video, New Line Cinema, TheWB.com, and DC Entertainment. Warner owns
half of The CW Television Network.

The logo is very simplistic on the new modern day logo, but is quite complex on the left. The colouring is vital in the
effectiveness of the logo and production company. I quite like this logo, I like the left image because of the different sizes
of text and the colour scheme. I feel the logo on the right is too bland and has nothing to it.
pixAR
Pixar Animation Studios, or simply Pixar stylized as PIXAR), is an American computer animation film studio
based in Emeryville, California. The studio is best known for its CGI-animated feature films created with
PhotoRealistic RenderMan, its own implementation of the industry-standard RenderMan image-rendering
application programming interface used to generate high-quality images. Pixar began in 1979 as the
Graphics Group, part of the computer division of Lucasfilm before its spin-out as a corporation in 1986
with funding by Apple Inc. co-founder Steve Jobs, who became its majority shareholder. The Walt Disney
Company bought Pixar in 2006 at a valuation of $7.4 billion, a transaction which made Jobs Disney's largest
shareholder.
I like this for a logo as the background really brings the text out. The text is simplistic, but relevant and still
effective. The iconic lamp is symbolic and is automatically associated with Pixar.
UNIVERSAL STUDIOS
• Universal Studios Home Entertainment (formerly Universal Studios Home Video, MCA/Universal Home
Video and MCA Home Video) is the home video distribution division of Universal Pictures. The
company is owned by NBCUniversal, the entertainment division of Comcast.
• The company was founded in 1978 as MCA DiscoVision with the Beta and VHS label MCA Videocassette,
Inc. in 1980, with the release of films on Beta and VHS, including Jaws, Jaws 2, and 1941. In late
1983, both the Laserdisc sister label MCA Videodisc and the VHS/Beta label MCA Videocassette were
consolidated into a single entity, MCA Home Video, alternating with the MCA Videocassette name
until December 1983. In 1990, with the 75th anniversary of Universal Studios, it became
MCA/Universal Home Video, alternating with the MCA Home Video name from 1990 until 1997. The
company later went by various company names, including Universal Studios Home Video (1998–
2005), and Universal Studios Home Entertainment (2005–present).
I think this is a very iconic, well animated logo. The text and image relate to each other. Its very colourful
and has a good effect on the audience as being a massive production company.
PARAMOUNT
Paramount Pictures Corporation (commonly known as Paramount Pictures or simply Paramount) is a film
and television production/distribution studio, consistently ranked as one of the largest (top-grossing) film
studios. It is a subsidiary of U.S. media conglomerate Viacom, Paramount is a member of the Motion
Picture Association of America (MPAA).[2] It has distributed various commercially successful film series,
such as Shrek, Transformers, Mission: Impossible, Marvel Cinematic Universe (2008-2012), Indiana Jones,
Star Trek, Jackass, Beverly Hills Cop, "Crocodile" Dundee, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, Paranormal Activity,
G.I. Joe, and Friday the 13th.
This is a very simplistic black and white logo on the left and don’t think it has the same effect as the other
logo on the right. I really like this logo as again relates perfectly with the production title, it’s a very
soothing logo but very powerful to the watcher. I doubt as a small a level media group are logos will be
anywhere near as powerful as these for obvious reasons.
20TH CENTURY FOX
• 20th Century Fox Television is the television production division of 20th Century Fox Film Corporation,
and a production arm of the Fox Broadcasting Company (both are subsidiaries of the Fox
Entertainment Group, in turn part of Rupert Murdoch's 21st Century Fox). 20th Television is the
syndication arm of 20th Century Fox Television.
• 20th Century Fox Television was founded in 1949 as other studios were branching out into television
production as well. At that time, the company was known as TCF Television Productions, Inc. until
1955. TCFTV folded the operations of TV production companies they've acquired: Metromedia
Producers Corporation in 1986, New World Entertainment in 1997, and MTM Enterprises in 1998,
and is the current distributor for most of the shows originally produced by these companies.
I like this logo as its very big and in your face. It definitely depicts that the 20 th century is the century of
movies and films whcich again is most definitely shown within the image.
•
COLUMBIA
• Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc. (CPII) is an American film production and distribution studio, that is
part of the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group, owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment, a
subsidiary of Sony Entertainment, a subsidiary of the Japanese conglomerate Sony.[1] It is one of the
leading film studios in the world, a member of the so-called Big Six. It was one of the so-called Little
Three among the eight major film studios of Hollywood's Golden Age.
• The studio, founded in 1918 as Cohn-Brandt-Cohn Film Sales by brothers Jack and Harry Cohn and Joe
Brandt, released its first feature film in August 1922. It adopted the Columbia Pictures name in 1924
and went public two years later.
•
The name is derived from "Columbia", a national personification of the United States, which is used as the
company's logo.
•
WALT DISNEY

The Walt Disney Company, commonly known as Disney, is an American diversified multinational mass
media corporation headquartered in Walt Disney Studios, Burbank, California. It is the largest media
conglomerate in the world in terms of revenue.[3] Disney was founded on October 16, 1923, by Walt and
Roy Disney as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, and established itself as a leader in the American
animation industry before diversifying into live-action film production, television, and travel. Taking on its
current name in 1986, it expanded its existing operations and also started divisions focused upon theater,
radio, music, publishing, and online media. In addition, Disney has created new divisions of the company in
order to market more mature content than it typically associates with its flagship family-oriented brands.
LIONSGATE

Lionsgate Home Entertainment is the home video and DVD distribution arm of Lions Gate Entertainment
and most former Artisan Entertainment releases.
This isn’t as powerful as the other images/ logos. Both the images in relation to the text meaning are
irrelevant. The colour scheme contrasts nicely to do with the background and the text. I like the effect in
which the clouds give off. But overall I think the logo could link more with the meaning and has shown me
to definitely make things relevant to the meaning of my logo’s name for my trailer.
METRO GOLDWYN MAYER
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (also known as Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, commonly referred to
as Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, or simply MGM), is an American media company, involved primarily in the
production and distribution of films and television programs. Once the largest and most glamorous of film
studios, MGM was founded in 1924 when the entertainment entrepreneur Marcus Loew gained control of
Metro Pictures, Goldwyn Pictures Corporation and Louis B. Mayer Pictures.[6][7] Its headquarters are in
Beverly Hills, California.
This again, is a very complex logo, but with relevance to media and film as a whole with the film strip and
the face within the middle. The lion is a very powerful, stong Image in this image. The background colour
along with the logo colour are not as strong and certain colours like the golden yellow and the orange
seem to merge. Personally this logo doesn’t fit in with my liking due to these factors.
How this research has influenced the way in
which I create my logo?

Overall, through conducting this research into production logo’s I have learned that you should have a nice
clear colour scheme which contrasts so it make it more notable, the name of the production company
must have meaning to the company name if possible and that it needs to be to a certain complexity and
not too simplistic, but at the same time have a good effect on the onlooker and be realistic.

Overall, through conducting this research into production logo’s I have learned that you should have a nice clear colour scheme which contrasts so it make it more notable, the name of the production company must have meaning to the company name if possible and that it needs to be to a certain complexity and not too simplistic, but at the same time have a good effect on the onlooker and be realistic.
