Planning for Database Creation
Prepare to create the database by research and careful planning. The following
are some recommended actions:
Plan the database tables and indexes and estimate the amount of space they

will require.
Plan the layout of the underlying operating system files that are to comprise

your database. Proper distribution of files can improve database performance
dramatically by distributing the I/O for accessing the files. There are several
ways to distribute I/O when you install Oracle and create your database. For
example, placing redo log files on separate disks or striping; placing datafiles
to reduce contention; and controlling density of data (number of rows to a data
block).
