(Handling Exam Stress)


Every Parent wants the best for their child – to
provide the best advantages.



This can lead to a demand on their physical and
mental energy which we call -

“STRESS”


Some constantly worry about their performance in the
exam . (lot of pressure)



Handling stress is different for every individual.



For some stress work; but for most, it is counterproductive.



It affects performance and generates frustration.
Unrealistic or



Last minute preparation

unreasonable



Parents lack of trust

expectations of others





Managing friendships

and self.

and relationships



Excessive competition



Conflicts



Low self esteem



Life changes



Comparisons
As a parent, the most important focus is must be on

present.
Ask yourself: Is the family is a happy place to be in?
 Is your child’s feeling is supported and loved?
 Is the family’ s ability to cope with stressful time

getting stronger?











Lack of sleep, appetite (or excess).
Headaches.
Stomach pains.
Feeling sick and tired all the time.
Constant fatigue.
Blurred vision.
Dizziness.
Increased Heart rate.


Quick to get into arguments or get angry.



Depression or negative thinking.



Excessive worry or anxiety.



Self injurious behaviour.



Lots of negative self talk.



Avoidance of study.



Irritability.


Social withdrawal



Cutting off from usual routine



Or increase in social activity.



Lack of interest in activities.



Difficulty in gathering information.



Forgetfulness


Blocking out all recreation for the child.



Making the child feel that exams are the most
important and only thing in the world.



Talking about previous failures.



Comparing the child with others.



Nagging.


Displacing your anxiety on the child.



Mixing academic issues with family conflicts.



Give them time to complete their task.


Small meals at regular intervals.



Reducing the habit of drinking tea/ coffee. Not
more than 1 – 2 cups a day.



Avoid giving any type of health drink.



Make possibility to be free from infection .



Avoid outside food.


Regular study is essential as well as recreation.



Sleeping hours must not be reduced i.e. 7- 8 hours
especially on the night before the test.



While taking break let them go outdoors.



Help them to arrange in their uniform
and utilities so that it can save their time.








Sleep disturbance !!!
Losing temper often !!!
Not being able to concentrate on your work !!!
Constantly checking with other parents !!!
Constantly checking on child !!!
Panicking !!!
Developing health concerns !!!

Everybody’s (family) life revolves round the child
who is taking exam. Family relations are getting
affected.


During family time using humor is a good idea to

relieve stress.


Be aware about however your child has done in

previous classes too.


Take care of your health (eating, sleeping and relaxing)



Set realistic goals according to your child’s ability.



Attend all school meetings to get updates.


Learn to let go things.



Trust the school for what they are doing.



To realize that whatever the outcome is, it is

manageable.


Talk to a friend or relative.



Talk to the counsellor if you are still not able to
manage the anxiety.

Dealing exam stress
