12. SidiSayyidJaali is a 15th century mosque renowned for its Islamic architecture of mesh work. The logo of IIM-A appears to be adapted from this mosque (the palm tree mesh (jaali) work of the mosque) , probably because the mosque is widely accepted as a symbol of Ahmedabad itself. The Jhali screens of the SidiSayed Mosque are engraved from a single piece of rock which is quite exceptional. The mosque is named after SidiSayyid, a slave of Ahmed Shah. The uniqueness of the architecture is the mesh work, which allows the sunlight and air to pass through, and it is designed in such a way that insiders can see the outside world, whereas the outsiders can’t see what is happening inside.
