2. Overview
The Terrific Tech Trainers decided to create a book to
help university faculty incorporate the use of i>Clickers
into their classroom.
We found the UbD (Understanding by Design) approach
to instructional design interesting and chose this
approach to develop our book using CAST's
Bookbuilder.
3. Why UbD?
Analyzes target learners asking the questions:
‘Why do we need to learn this?’
‘Why do we need to know this?’
'Why does this matter to me?'
Moves beyond basic knowledge to understanding
Teaches learners how to use the information
4. Why UbD? (cont.)
Teaches learners how to apply the information, not
just know it
Asks the enduring question – What do we really
want target learners to know and be able to do?
Has the end in mind when designing the instruction
– a backwards approach to instructional design
Focuses on performance based assessment
5. Goal
The goal of the book is to entice professors to use i>Clickers
in their classroom by:
Addressing the benefits of use in the university
classroom
Motivating them to use clickers based on scholarly
research
Showing them appropriate/suggested uses
Teaching them how to use i>clickers
6. About the Book
Created using CAST's Bookbuilder, the book:
•
Provides audio, visual aids, and text for the
reader
•
Provides audio by 3 'coaches': Techie Tom,
Dr. Hootman, and Clicker Carol, each with
distinct roles in implementing instruction.
•
Includes scholastic references as well as
interesting links to videos to supplement
the text in the book.

7. What is BOOKBUILDER?
Website used to create, publish, and share digital books
using UDL (Universal Design Learning)
Based on CAST's research related to three primary brain
networks (recognition network, strategic network, and
affective network) and the roles they play in understanding
these differences
Provides a framework to create and implement lessons
with flexible goals, methods, materials, and assessments
that support learning for all learners
8. The Book Part I:
All About Clickers
This section of the book
provides general information
about 'Clickers':
What are clickers?
What are their features?
What is their purpose in the
classroom?
9. The Book Part II:
Reasons to Use Clickers
Provides the reader with detailed reasons why they should
use clickers and provides motivation to use them with
references to scholarly research on their enhancement to
student learning
10. The Book Part III:
How to Use i>Clickers
This section provides
university instructors with
information and tutorials
on how to order and set up
i>Clickers (a specific brand
of Clickers) for use in the
classroom.
