The Pakistani Armed Forces consist of three branches - the Pakistan Army, Pakistan Airforce, and Pakistan Navy. Formed in 1947 at Pakistan's independence from Britain, the armed forces play a decisive role in Pakistan's history and helped forge a national identity through wars with India in 1947 and 1965. With over 1.4 million active duty, reserve, and paramilitary personnel, Pakistan has the 7th largest military forces in the world in terms of troops.
