2. Whilst I designed my music magazine, I had
to learn and develop my skills in order to use
new pieces of software, enable me to edit
and enable me to create my music magazine.
The first thing that I did was take photos
using the camera. I already knew how to do
this in depth and was able to take high
quality photos which I believe look
professional. I also used an SD card to store
the photos and upload them to the
computer, which I also knew how to do in
great depth as I already had experience at
doing this previously.
I then had to edit the photos to give them the
'warm' effect which I used in my magazine
via iPhoto on the Apple Mac. This application
also allowed me to view all of my photos and
select the one which I wanted to edit and use
for my magazine.
3. IPhoto was used to store and edit all of the
photos which I took fro my magazine. I used it
as a storage application but later discovered
that it had editing features built into it as well.
Therefore I edited the photos which I wanted to
use for my magazine in order to enhance the
colours of them as well as give them a 'warmer'
effect which I was hoping for.
I accessed all of these photos on the Apple Mac
which I used as the hardware to create my
magazine. I left the photos in a file within iPhoto
until I needed them for the magazine, which is
when I then imported the photo into Photoshop.
I felt that using iPhoto was good as it developed
my skills in photo editing but also developed my
technological knowledge and skills about Apple
Macs as I have never used them before, but now
know that iPhoto is one of its main applications
and is easy to access and use.
4. The main piece of software which I used to design and
create my actual magazine was Adobe Photoshop. I
have used Photoshop in the past but not in great
depth and also without an understanding of what all of
the tools did, therefore I learnt how to use it by
completing a tutorial as well as completing my
preliminary task. Firstly, I changed the colour schemes
and fonts until I had selected the ones which I felt was
most appropriate for the magazine. I have learnt that
in order to make a professional product you need to
know the ins and outs of the software you want to use
in order to make it. My Photoshop skills have
developed immensely and I know feel confident
enough to use Photoshop without having to worry that
I do not know what to do or how to use it.
5. As stated previously, I had to learn how to use Apple Mac
computers in order to complete my task and make the magazine
successfully. What I learnt whilst creating my magazine, was that
Apple Mac's use different software, keyboards and mice due to it
being a lot more advanced and professional than normal
computers.
I discovered that there were a lot of keyboard shortcut which
enabled easier control of what I was doing on the Mac. For
example, I was able to smoothly zoom in and out of documents
and webpages which I could not do on normal computers.
I also had to learn where all of the software was located on the Mac
because unlike normal computers, it is not all shown on the
desktop. 'Finder' is the name the Mac's use as the search bar which
allowed me to locate documents and any software that I needed to
use via the Mac. One of the main things I have learnt about Apple
Mac's, is that they are a lot more technologically advanced than
normal computers as they have the most advanced and fastest
processor that exists to date. The processor which the Mac's run on
is OS 10.8.5, meaning that my magazine was produced
professionally on the fastest processing computer to date.
6. In order to move and transfer files and documents from
computer to computer, was by memory stick. This was
also an effective way to back up files so that if they went
corrupt or did not work any longer, then I would have
another copy of it.
Memory sticks rarely corrupt meaning that it was also
useful to store files on here as I was able to transfer them
from computer to computer without coming into contact
from any errors. The only way that the memory stick could
have corrupted, was if it was ejected incorrectly.
I ensured that I safely ejected it from the computer every
time I used it. I have used memory sticks before for
previous projects and work, so I did not learn any new
skills regarding them but did develop them as I never
safely removed memory sticks from computers but
discovered that they can become corrupted if I did not.
