importance of positioning in military strategy. Decision of positioning an army which must be based
on both objective condition in the physical environment and subjective of their belief. Sun Zi also

How Is Kinky Boots Essay
The film, Kinky Boots, is about a young shoe factory owner named Charlie Price, and his partnership
with a drag queen named Lola. After his father s death, Charlie had a choice to either sell the
company, or to take on the responsibilities left by his father. Choosing to take on the business, he
created a goal to save the factory by making a shoe designed for a niche market, drag queens. Charlie
asked for Lola s help, and they worked together with the other factory members to produce and bring
these shoes to Milan. As the film progresses, both Charlie and Lola discover more about themselves
and the friendship between them, thus building up the Kinky Boots factory striving against all odds.
Modern man s interpretation to mythology differs from time to time as society continues to evolve.
Kinky Boots give out a message of being open to the evolution of man s perspective and view. The
film employs deep understanding to a conservative society, and the significant existence of drag
queens. Charlie signifies as the archetypal hero in which he was born, or expected to take on the
responsibilities of his father s shoe business, and to triumph against the problems the factory and his
life would present. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the world where she believes she belongs. Lastly, the existence of shoes further implies several
messages: (1) moving forward with the dreams, goals, and hopes in life, (2) comfortable shoes take

Why Don t Boys Play With Dolls Essay
The feminist movement has been trying to change the idea of traditional sex roles and stereotypes in
society for decades, but maybe the issue relies on society instead of biological differences. While
these biological differences and research show that there are small differences in cognitive brain
activity between the sexes, they also propose a theory that this is the way it s supposed to be (Pollitt
2549). Although these differences exist it does not mean that sexes should have permanently assigned
roles in society. Katha Pollitt, a feminist author and high profile activist wrote the essay Why Don t
Boys Play With Dolls, published in 1995 in The New York Times Magazine. In the essay, she argues
that biological determinism may reassure some adults about their present, but it is feminism, the
ideology of flexible and converging sex roles, that fits our children s future (2549). Pollitt raises
important ethical problems in her essay, gender roles and stereotyping. Throughout her essay she
provides several claims to her argument and builds credibility with her audience by using rhetorical
strategies. However, the argument also exhibits some minor flaws, which could in return limit its
persuasiveness. This analysis will identify Pollitt s three main claims and the evidence she uses to
support them. I argue that overall Pollitt provides an effective argument by building her credibility and
expanding her audience with the use of rhetorical strategies, such as ethos, pathos,

The Conquest of Greece by the Roman Empire and the Success...
The successes of mystery religions in the Roman world were greatly influenced by the Roman
expansion, especially the conquest of Greece by the Roman Empire where their cultures and traditions
were adopted and modified (Perry et al. 2013, p. 122). This was the foremost reason of the initial
spread of mystery religions, especially the cult of Hellenised Isis, in Rome. In addition, the political
trade involving grains and slaves also played a significant role in the extended reach of the Hellenised
cult of Isis among the Romans (Bowden 2010, p. 161). Moreover, the practices of the religion were
considered to be appealing to the women and the poor. Gender equality was promoted and the distinct
barriers between the different social classes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conquest on Greece in particular, had led to a significant increase in the number of educated
Greek slaves entering Rome (Perry et al. 2013, p. 126). According to Cumont, slaves were spreading
their beliefs to the gods of their respective countries (1956, p. 24). It is therefore not surprising for
mystery cults to enter and succeed in the Roman world. The mystery religion of Isis, for example, was
considered to be the most successful mystery religion above all (Ferguson 1970, p. 106). This is due to
the belief that Isis was ... [the] highest of the god ... (Apuleius Golden ass ex. 11.1). In addition, the
practice of Roman religion could be seen as polytheistic. Hence, people tended to yearn for greater
blessings from the gods and goddesses. In this case, Isis was considered to be an option. Moreover,
Romans valued the different practises of their conquered states and even assimilated those practises
into their own (Perry et al. 2013, p. 122). The conquests of numerous states, therefore, not only
allowed Isis cults to succeed in Roman world but also provided Rome for its necessary resources.
Political trade was another reason for the successes of mystery religions in the Roman world. To
illustrate, the cult of Isis was able to succeed in Rome through the political agreement between Rome
and Egypt in the early first century BC (Bowden 2010, p. 161; Kamm 1995, p. 96). According

Pope Francis And Climate Change Essay
One of the largest governing bodies in this world tends to be overlooked by many who do not share
the same religious views as the Catholic Church. Lead by Pope Francis the bishops represent 51
million Catholics and with their influential lobbying arm in Washington, they affect public opinion not
just in the pews, but also in statehouses and Congress. In recent years, they have devoted their time
and resources to fighting against abortion, same sex marriage and contraception. Recently the have
found common ground with Republican politicians and evangelicals who argue against the evidence
that climate change is caused by human activity. With Francis as pope for the last two years, bishops

Francis used his predecessors as anchoring points in his doctrine.
In his 1990 World Day of Peace speech, John Paul II declared the environment to be a moral priority
of the Church, warning that world peace is threatened not only by the arms race, regional conflicts,
and continued injustices among peoples and nations, but also by a lack of due respect for nature.
Benedict XVI was nicknamed the green pope because he spoke on environmental issues so frequently;
he had solar panels installed on the roof of the Vatican and even rolled out a hybrid version of the
Popemobile. (The Pope s Moral Case for Taking On Climate Change The Atlantic)
What I was able to gather from all this information is this is not the first time that the Church has
taken on environmentalism. A former staffer at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops was
quoted saying This didn t begin with Earth Day or Al Gore. It began with Genesis. At the core of his
argument is third world countries will probably feel the largest impact of climate change in the coming
years. Farmers are no longer able to grow the crops that they have for generations due to the rapid
change in the environment causing the land to be too dry and the rainfall is too unpredictable or the
temperatures are

Comparing Stories Walk Two Moons And The Guest
The two stories Walk Two Moons, by Sharon Creech and The Guest retold by Uma Krishnaswami
share a similar theme of don t judge a person till you know them. Even though the two stories share a
similar theme, the authors tell it in different ways. In the first novel Walk Two Moons the author
shows the common theme through the characters thoughts, and feelings. For instance, Like Mr.
Cadaver as I told you before. Maybe Mr.Birkway helped her chop up her husband and bury him and
maybe they were getting worried and decided to disguise the spot with a rhododendron bush. Phoebe
thought Mrs. Cadaver killed her husband and was judging her actions before knowing her and her
backstory. Phoebe imagines the worst possible things when thinking of Mrs.Cadaver. Another piece of
evidence that proves the theme is, Everywhere you looked was something startling: a stuffed squirrel,
a kite in the shape of a dragon, a wooden cow with a spear piercing it s side. Both of the girls, Sal and
Phoebe, thought that Mrs. Cadaver had a bunch of weird things on the walls and all over the place.
The girls were judging the way her house was before they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One piece of evidence that contributes to the theme is, The rich man came to the courtyard to take a
look. Seeing the old man in his ragged clothes, he waved a hand to the servant, then went back to join
his elegant guest. This reveals that the rich man wouldn t let the man in just because his clothes weren
t fancy enough. The rich man only invited him cause he looked better when he met him. Another piece
of evidence that helps understand the theme is, When I arrived in rags, you turned me away. Now that
I am dressed in finery, you treat me with honor. This demonstrates how some people treat others badly
because of what they wear or looked like. Even if they don t know you or the reason why you wear
those things or look like you

Hinduism Essay
Hinduism
Hinduism cannot be described as an organized religion. One individual did not found Hinduism.
Hinduism is God centered and therefore one can call Hinduism as founded by God. Hinduism is based
upon Eternal Principles. If a great scientist like Einstein discovered or realized laws of physics,
Hinduism would call him a great Rishi (Maharshi or seer of truth.) Such seers of truth are not confined
to any one age or country. Self realized persons like Jesus Christ would be called Rishis (seers) and
their teachings would be readily acceptable to those who properly understand the principles of
Hinduism . From the ancient times, many great Rishis achieved self realization through such means as
meditation and they realized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The classical theory is now being rejected by increasing numbers of archeologists and religious
historians. Since Hindus believe that Hinduism pertains to all human beings many timelines begin
with the creation of life and includes major human accomplishments.
The Om is to Hindus As the cross is to Christians. It is made up of three Sanskrit letters, aa, au and ma
which, when combined, make the sound Aum or Om. The most important symbol in Hinduism, it
occurs in every prayer and invocation to most deities begins with it. As the symbol of piety, Om is
often found at the head of letters, pendants, enshrined in every Hindu temple and family shrines. This
symbol is actually a sacred syllable representing the Brahman or the Absolute the source of all
existence. Brahman, in itself, is incomprehensible so a symbol becomes mandatory to help us realize
the Unknowable. The syllable Om occurs even in English words having a similar meaning, for
instance, omniscience , omnipotent , omnipresent . Thus Om is also used to signify divinity and
authority. Its similarity with the Latin M as also to the Greek letter Omega is discernable. Even the
word Amen used by Christians to conclude a prayer seems to be akin to Om.
Second in importance only to the Om, the Swastika, a symbol that looks like the Nazi emblem, holds a
great religious significance for the Hindus. Swastika is not a syllable or a letter, but a pictorial

Popular Film Conventions
From its beginning in the 1890s, the film industry has never been stagnant. Consumers continuously
spend their hard earned money on the films that are released in theaters every week. However,
choosing which film to buy tickets for can be rather difficult. Thankfully, the hundreds of movies that
have been released can be grouped into several genres such as, comedy, horror, and fantasy. A very
popular film genre for all movie lovers is the comedy. A comedy is a film which is intended to amuse
the audience with light hearted humor. These motion pictures provoke enjoyment and often exaggerate
characteristics of real life as well as the characteristics of the actors and actresses in them. This genre
of film generally concludes on a cheerful note. Several popular comedies are The Hangover series,
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These flicks are known primarily for providing an escape from reality and containing an element of
magic, wonder, and myth. These movies are usually based off of a fictional world in which the
scenarios transcend all physical laws of the universe. Characters in this genre of motion pictures
commonly have unrealistic human strength and undergo supernatural phenomena. The setting of this
classification ordinarily takes place in a mythical, medieval, or other whimsical location. Several
renowned films of this genre include the Labyrinth, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Lord of the
Rings Trilogy.
The film industry will never idle and will continue to rapidly produce movies, thus a system of
organization is necessary. While a large number of genres and subcategories of each genre exist, the
standard comedy, fantasy, and horror are exceedingly common. When deciding what motion picture to
see, many moviegoers describe what genre they would like to watch, rather than a specific movie.
Without this system of categories, attending a movie theater would be incredibly

Abraham Flexner s Medical Education Reform
Abraham Flexner was one of the most influential advocates of medical education reform in the United
States. Born to German Jewish immigrants on November 13, 1866 in Louisville, Kentucky, Flexner
attended Johns Hopkins and earned a bachelor s degree in 1886. Once earning his bachelor s degree,
Flexner returned to Kentucky to teach Latin and Greek at the high school in Louisville. In 1890
Flexner opened Mr. Flexner s School , his own private college preparatory school based on the idea
that there would be no formal curriculum, no examinations, and the students would not be graded on,
nor any academic records kept of their work. Remarkably, the school stood out at preparing students
for prestigious colleges (Institute for Advanced Study, n.d.). Flexner closed his school in 1905 and
returned to college where he received his master s degree from Harvard in 1906.
Flexner wrote a book entitled The American College in 1908 which was highly critical of American
universities and their teaching methodology. Flexner s book gained attention from Dr. Henry S.

which were passed down the generations through word of mouth. Each community had their own
folklores whereby they used oral traditions such us proverbs, tales and poems to ensure that everyone
in the community, especially the children, knew and was aware of the customs. This helped develop a
sense of pride and respect for the people s culture since they understood why some of the cultural
practices were done and the consequences of going against these practices and customs. Folklores may

In the book, the author tries to define the dragon and states that it was seen to look like a giant snake.
He also explains how people saw dragons as sacred whereby it was seen as some type of guardian to
the people and provided them with protection and natural needs like rain. The book also tells of
people, who had negative beliefs against the dragons; these were mostly Christians who to some
extent even fought with the dragons. The belief that dragons were strong and mighty was seen as true
since people who defeated dragons, mostly armies, were remembered as very great men. The popular
belief that dragons guard great treasures in their caves is seen in this novel whereby the author states
that people in those days tried to enter dragon caves which were guarded by these dragons. Various
arguments on the beliefs of dragons and their existence are widely discussed in various articles by
researchers of nature and animals. In an article done by Robert. M. May, some research shows that the
myths about dragons might be actually true and that dragons really exist. Robert bases his arguments
on the bases of how its characteristics like having wings makes it to adapt to places with no human
inhabitation like on top of mountains(Nature 264, 16 17). There are various points that these

The Negative Impacts Of Rising Sea Levels
Over the past 100 years, global sea levels have risen at astounding rates and only now are
governments, business, and people beginning to understand just how negatively this will affect the
world, not only now, but in the future as well. For many ports the growing issue of how rising sea
levels, both locally and globally, is one that they do not have a plan in place to address it. The ports
face a negative impact from damage to both their own facilities and equipment, but also the
infrastructure in the areas surrounding the port. Financing any additions or upgrades to a port s
operations will be difficult for many reasons such as that the variability in the expected rise in sea
level for the over the next century makes it difficult for accurate planning to be done.
Rising sea levels has two main causes, increased glacier melt and the water itself expanding as it gets
warmer known as thermal expansion (U.S.). The increased heat in water that is causing glaciers to
melt and the water to expand is largely due to greenhouse gas emissions (U.S.). The dependence on
fossil fuels by many countries around the world means that there will be difficulties in reducing
continued damage to the atmosphere from greenhouse gasses ( Causes ). Another reason that
greenhouse gas emissions have had such negative effect stems from the destruction of forests,
particularly those in tropical locations ( Causes ).

Environmental Problems Facing The Earth
Patton, Cade
AP Environmental Science
The biggest environmental problem that faces Earth today is pollution. There are a bunch types of
pollution on planet Earth but by far air pollution is the deadliest. Air pollution can inhibit the breathing
of living organisms. Many major companies including Exxonmobil and Bp who are leading the air
pollution race with a Exxonmobil averaging 39 million tons of emissions. These emissions are
released into the air by the process of making gasoline and chemicals. The second biggest
environmental problem Earth faces each year is the decrease of natural resources. When it comes to
natural resources the depletion of fossil fuels and deforestation are destroying the planet.
Deforestation is the removal of trees in a wide area to the point of where it s almost not a forest
anymore. On the other hand the depletion of fossil fuels is scary because fossil fuels are a
nonrenewable resource. They are nonrenewable because they are being used up faster than they are
being created. And it can take up to millions of years for more fossil fuels to be created. And finally
for my third pick of the biggest environmental problems facing the Earth is the depletion of its Ozone
layer. Some chemicals named Chlorine and bromine are in the atmosphere and are deteriorating the
Ozone layer which consists of three hydrogen atoms.

translation based on ancient Hinduism. Throughout the scripture, it explains the teachings that can be
used in an everyday life situation. Its diverse audience can learn how to face different dilemmas, and
how to live in this world with happiness and peace by doings ones duties. It also helps the audience

However, the second teaching Bhagavad Gita talks about is the three Gunas. Their names are Sattva,
Rajas, and Tamas. Sattva is known as pure happiness and knowledge. It helps us free from all sinful
reactions that can later lead to happiness and knowledge. Rajas are known to be full of passion with
intense desires. It helps us control our selfish desires. Tamas is known to be the darkness, and
crudeness. They are the ones who are born with ignorance, and madness. Higher worlds are Sattva,
middle worlds are rajas, and lower worlds are tamas. Each of the three Gunas tries to have higher
power, and overpower one another. Our souls are known to be influenced by them. They are
responsible for the behavior of all living things. The goal of the three Gunas is to create a bondage
through desires. Understanding the three Gunas helps a devotee overcome their battles to accomplish
perfection, and help us with complying with our duties. All three are responsible to get rid of desire
actions in all beings. Instead of just putting these practices into use we should go beyond our own
expectations. The one who is successful with all three Gunas is a qualified devotee. Therefore, we
must begin our journey into this world.
Another teaching the Bhagavad Gita offers is stability of mind. Knowing our own mind can help us
understand the world we are living in, react to problems, and make sure we can change them to ensure
survival. This can help us with challenging decisions,

The Magnitude of Ramadan Essay
The Five Pillars of Islam are the framework of Islamic life. First off, a Muslim must have faith in
Allah and believe that there is only one Allah and Muhammad is His messenger. Next, a Muslim has
the duty to pray five times each day, which is considered to be a direct link between him and Allah.
Third, a Muslim must distribute alms and help the needy. Fourth, a Muslim is responsible to keep the
Fast of Ramadan. Lastly, a Muslim is obligated to make a pilgrimage to Mecca in his lifetime. Most
non Islamic people do not know why these pillars are so important to the Islamic religion. One of the

It is very significant that a Muslim spends a lot time with his family and friends, throughout this
month, and realizes what is truly important in his life. Many more Muslims attend Mosques during
Ramadan because they believe that Allah will help them understand the essentials of life.
Throughout Ramadan all Muslims are strictly obligated to pray five times each day and, in addition,
attend Mosque and have a nightly prayer, called Taraween, which is two to three times as long as the
usual daily prayers. Along with praying, Muslims celebrate significant days in the month. On the
evening of the 27th day of the month, Muslims celebrate the Laylat al Qadr (the Night of Power)
(Zahid). This night is
Jafari 3 celebrated because it is believed by all Muslims that it was the night that Muhammad first
received the revelation of the Quran and the night when Allah determines the future of the world for
the next year. By celebrating nights like this along with praying at home and in a Mosque, a Muslim
becomes much closer to Allah and in return gets to know their own identity much better. Reading out
of the Quran and worshipping Allah is one of the most important things to do during the Fast of

Examples Of Manliness In Okonkwo
2. Reread pages 52 54 and copy down quotations that help us understand Okonkwo s view of
manhood or manliness . After each quotation, write down your analysis of it.
One quotation that expresses Okonkwo s view of manliness states Okonkwo was always happy when
he heard [Nwoye] grumbling about women. That showed that in time he would be able to control his
womenfolk (53). This quotation shows that Oknonkwo feels pleasure when his son displays signs of
power, such as the control of the perceived weaker gender. Ergo, Okonkwo views the subordination of
others by his son as an example of masculinity. This idea is further supported by the quotation: No
matter how prosperous a man was, if he was unable to rule his women and his children... he was not
really a man (53). Oknonkwo clearly considers utter authority of one s nuclear family as a prerequisite
to meet manhood. He literally states that a man without patriarchy in his family is not a man.
Therefore, when Nwoye displays the early signs of this dominance, like the grumbling about his
subordinate women s issues, Okonkwo is finally considering his son masculine as shown by his
happiness.
Okonkwo s view is further developed when he encouraged [Nwoye and Ikemefuna] to sit with him in
his obi, and he told them stories of the land masculine stories of violence and bloodshed (53). This
quote shows that Okonkwo believes gory subjects to be suitable and honestly necessary for men
entering manhood. He takes these two

Unfortunately, we re expecting this problem to worsen as the world s population continues to grow,

The first thing we need to do is locate the fish, which Oceana has done a great job of doing, fish are
conveniently located in the coastal zones of countries, these coastal zones are under the control of
national jurisdictions, which means each country can manage their own fisheries. It s a good thing that
these zones are controlled by national jurisdictions, because if it were done internationally, it would be
a lot more difficult for these changes to be put into action. The reasons why we should focus in on
these coastal zones, is simply because the fish. There are seven times as many fish in these zones
compared to the high seas, which means for us we have seven times more of a change to reestablish a

Essay on The Nature and Role of the Ocean in the Medieval...
The ocean in medieval times was a thing of great mystery to the ordinary medieval peasant. However
to the explorers, the church and the educated the sea was a dangerous place. The ocean began to
fascinate people in the time of the early Greeks. The Titans ruled the earth in the beginning, and
Oceanus, son of Uranus and Gaea was one of them. In him [Oceanus] Homer salutes the essence of all
things, even the Gods, and regards him as a divinity whose power was inferior to none but Zeus He
was the father of all the rivers and lakes of the world. But then the Olympians rebelled against the
Titans, Zeus drove Cronus into the western ocean. When Zeus had taken his place as head of the gods,
not even the oceans tides could defy him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

viewed themselves as white martyrs, leaving their families and friends to do good work for God and
the church. Living in discomfort in little beehive huts sleeping on stone beds on windswept rocky

idea of penance and exile is closely tied up to the idea of white martyrdom, often there were civilians
on the monastery and they were there to repent for their sins. They spent a certain length of time there,
sharing the harsh living conditions of the monks. The monks wanted to test the strength of their
penance. This was a voluntary form of exile and a documented source records another: And three

The Past and Present of Terrorism and Counterterrorism in...
The Past and Present of Terrorism and Counterterrorism in China
Introduction
This paper traces the evolution of China s indigenous conceptualization of terrorism and counter
terrorism practice from Imperial China to the modern era. It mainly explores the historical and cultural
underpinnings and the current pragmatic diplomacy that have shaped the evolution.
Since the concept of terrorism did not originate in China and retains much ambiguity, it is helpful to
understand the local characters within a comparative framework. The fundamental question then
becomes what is terrorism in the contemporary world. In the United States ( U.S. ), the Executive
Order 13224 defines terrorism as activity that (1) involves a violent act or an act dangerous to human
life, property, or infrastructure, and (2) appears to be intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian
population; to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or to affect the
conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, kidnapping, or hostage taking. Despite
that existing legal scholarship has paid much attention to the wide range of definitions of terrorism,
the U.S. version is sufficient for the purpose of this paper.
Interestingly, notwithstanding a want of the word terrorism in Imperial China and workable official
legal definition of terrorism in modern China, terrorist like activities have long existed and been
viewed as politically motivated violence against the state.

On the other hand, Butler will reunite him with coach Thibodeau so familiarity to the system will not

How Does Cassius Use Ethos In Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar Funeral Speech Analysis There are many different ways to appeal to an audience or any
group of people. One very clever way of doing this would be to use logos, pathos and ethos. Logos
uses inductive or deductive reasoning by citing facts as evidence, therefore proving their point using
logical evidence. Another technique that an author can use is Pathos, when using pathos the author
tries to appeal to the emotions of the audience by describing the effect of a situation, essentially trying
to affect the audience s emotions. When using Ethos it is important for the author to establish
themselves as a trustworthy, respectful, and knowledgeable person. Doing this the author can use
ethical information to win over the audience. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the first times that Brutus uses Pathos is in Act three when he says, Had you rather Caesar were
living and die all slaves, than that Caesar were dead and live all as free men?(III. ii. ll. 23 24 )Brutus
was saying that if Caesar would have not been killed that all of them would have become slaves, but
now since he is dead they can all live as free men and women. By saying this Brutus was affecting the
people s emotions by saying what would would have been their future by using pathos. The next
rhetorical strategy that Brutus uses would be logos. Brutus uses logos when he says ... that I loved
Caesar less, but I loved Rome more (III. ii. l. 122). When Brutus says this he means that he killed
Caesar for the good of Rome, not because he hated Caesar. The last rhetorical device that Brutus uses
is ethos. Brutus uses ethos when he says Believe me for mine honor , and have respect to mine honor,
that you may believe (II. ii. LL. 14 16). When Brutus says this he wants the plebeians to remember
how honorable of a man he is and to keep that in mind so that they will believe what he has to

Part I (Short Answer)
1) Compare the genetic traits of Vincent and Anton. How are they similar? How are they different?
They are tall, brunette and men. They are different because Jerome does not have a heart condition,
where Vincent does. Also, I noticed that Jerome is right handed, and Vincent is left handed; this
provides symmetry.
2) What does the character German do for a living? German s character helps invalids do what they
are told they cannot by finding people with perfect DNA, then sells their genetic codes to lesser
important people in return for a part of their salary trades identities in the black market

I think this relates to the swimming scenes between Vincent and Anton because whenever Vincent and
Anton would race in the waters to see who would turn back first, Vincent would always come in
second place (silver medal).
3. What name does Jerome choose for himself? Is there any significance to this name? Jerome wants
to be called by his middle name: Eugene. With research on the internet, I have found that Eugene
comes from the Greek word meaning well born , which is a huge symbol in the movie. Also, eugenics
is the science of improving the genetic qualities of a species, which is also very interesting. 4. Do
Vincent and Jerome stick to their new names consistently through the film, or are there moments when
they revert to their original names? It is very rare that they use their original names since Vincent is
practically becoming Jerome (taking his identity).
5. As the story unfolds, Jerome s behavior and especially his remarks about himself reveal a great deal
. How would you describe his character? In this movie, the society only valued perfect individuals,
which means they had a bright future according to their DNA. Jerome realized he would never be seen
as human again because he became crippled after trying to commit suicide. In a way he was broken,
and the only valuable thing about him was his genetic code,

The birth of the Blitzkrieg, meaning lightning war was a term used to describe the fast passed surprise
attacks of the German Army during World War Two. The Blitzkrieg military tactic was intended to
create psychological shock and subsequent inefficiency in the enemy forces. This tactic was victorious
for more than two years through the employment of surprise, speed and superiority in materiel of
firepower. In a reliable primary source, British army officer, military historian and strategist, Major
General Fuller stated, Speed, and still more speed, and always speed was the secret...and that
demanded audacity, more audacity and always audacity. (Kaplan, 2015, page 38). This proves that
Nazi Germany s success using the tactic at the beginning of the Second World War was largely due to
that fact that it was the only country that had effectively linked its forces with radio communications.
Together with the use of movement, shock and locally concentrated firepower, Germany skillfully
corresponded attacks that paralysed the opponents capacity to organise defenders, rather than
attempting to physically overcome them allowing the opponents to disturb the system of
administration and communications. The Blitzkrieg tactics, disrupted the main enemy s battle position

How Did Scotland Leave The Uk

Originally believed to have been established as far back as the year 1235, Scotland has had its own
parliament. Originally being made up of what would have been known as a king s council which
included earls, nobles and general people of wealth and power. For centuries this parliament made
decisions in Scotland over things such as taxation, the law, justice and many other areas. This did not
last forever however as after many years the Treaty of the Union was introduced in 1707. This was
essentially the agreement between Scotland and England to establish Westminster as the main political

Many believe that Scotland too well economically within the UK for leaving to be a viable option as
Scotland receives much of its funding through what is known as the Barnett Formula. By design this
provides Scotland with £1,500 more per head than the majority of other parts of the UK. This angers
many other parts of the UK as financially Scotland only provides a small part of the overall public
sector revenue created in the UK with £54 billion being made in 2015/16 which equates to only 8% of
public sector revenue. Many believe however that Scotland would be more than capable of supporting
its own economy outside the UK as a result of the North Sea oil. As oil and gas are still the most major
power sources used by the world and with the BBC reporting there being a 15.2% rise in the value of
the North Sea s reserves since 2015/16 it can be argued that with it all being in Scotland s hands there
would be a good financial foundation for Scotland to build upon after leaving the UK.

A CALLING? TO NURSING 14 Abstract The aim of this paper is to clarify the concept of ?a calling?
as it relates to nursing. The purpose is to develop a definition with the detail and clarity needed to
guide reliable and valid research. The classic steps described by Walker and Avant (2011) are used for
the analysis. Literature from several disciplines is reviewed including vocational psychology,
Christian Career counseling, sociology, organizational management and nursing. The analysis
provides an operational definition of ?a calling? to nursing and establishes three defining attributes of
the concept: (a) a passionate intrinsic motivation or desire (perhaps with a religious component), (b)
fulfillment of an aspiration for the work to provide meaningfulness or purpose in one?s life, and (c)
helping other through caregiving. Antecedents to the concept are personal introspective and cognitive
awareness. Positive consequences to the concept are improved work meaningfulness, work
engagement, career commitment, personal well being and satisfaction. Negative consequences of
having ?a calling? might include willingness to sacrifice wellbeing for work and problems with work
life balance. Following the concept analysis, philosophical assumptions, contextual factors,

Pluto Should Be Promoted From Pluto s Original Planet Status
Outer space is a realm of new discoveries and possibilities. There is one particular planet in our solar
system that is brimming with these possibilities. However, for nine years it has not actually been
considered a planet. The dwarf planet , Pluto, has been overlooked and misrepresented in astronomy
and planetary science. Since being demoted from planet status to dwarf planet status, little Pluto has
raised some big questions about what defines a planet and what does not. In this paper, I will attempt
to persuade you that Pluto should be promoted back to its original planet status. First, I will give you a
brief history of Pluto, from its discovery to what prompted its reclassification. Next, I will explain the
definition of a planet as given by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and the definition s
flaws. Finally, I will discuss the recent discoveries of the New Horizons mission and how these new
discoveries should lead to the reclassification of Pluto to its original planet status.
History of Pluto
Pluto was discovered in 1930 by Clyde W. Tombaugh and was reclassified as a dwarf planet in 2006.
This means that for almost eighty years, all of mankind knew that Pluto was a planet. The real trouble
for Pluto came in 1992 when David Jewitt and Jane Luu discovered the first celestial objects in a
region now called the Kuiper Belt (Weintraub, 2015). Pluto is considered one of the largest celestial
objects in the belt (Redd, 2012). However, there are some objects in

The Ugly Truth About Mainstreaming Classrooms
The Ugly Truth About Mainstreaming Classrooms Gabrielle Wooten Towson University Abstract Full
inclusion classrooms hinder the disabled students abilities by making the students feel isolated,
causing lower grades, and lacking the proper help the students need to succeed. These disadvantages
and the support used proves that the segregated classroom allow the special needs students to focus
and the general students to not be distracted as well. With the students undivided attention, the
students , in excluded classrooms, grades improve greatly. As more people know about full inclusion,
there is more of a chance to keep it out of school systems everywhere. Introduction Full inclusion or
mainstreaming classrooms is when special needs students are assimilated into a general classroom
setting. On the other hand, the special needs classrooms are set aside to allow disabled students to

English 4 The Tyger Analysis
It was said once that Who wants flowers when you re dead? Nobody. Many times our own
misconception can lead us to different perspectives and different point of views that cause a disunity
between our ways of thinking. However nothing can be further than the truth and staying true to
yourself. As for William Blake this is the exact concept efforted in his poem The Tyger as he
introduces the concept of life s creation and questioning the creator of it. Questioning the thesis of
why life is the way it is, William Blake uses Symbolism with the tyger which is still a mystery in the
poem however it is still symbolized as a creation by the creator.

Therefore William is saying that how can the creator create something so viscous? He also goes on to
speak that on what wings dare he aspire? What the hand dare seize the fire? There is symbolism in
here when William says on what wings? Because by this he automatically stating that the creator of
this creature is something greater than us, something out of this realm. We as humanity have always
portrayed angels and heavenly creatures to having wings and halos above their heads. Therefore
William gives away an allegory using symbolism which is a characteristic by creative writers. When
William says what the hand dare seize the fire, it is another example of the same meaning by saying
the hand must be great if it is to hold this fierce creature.
In the third and fourth quatrain, William talks about the same meaning using different symbols and
different allegories. He states in the third quatrain; And what shoulder, and what art, could twist the

the first couplet William is using symbolism describing what art could twist sinews of thy heart?

Raines, Toland s first significant girlfriend. Toland s journey hinges on his relationship with Ginger,
for her character and her relationship with Toland symbolized what society as well as Toland
considered normal at the time. It is not until he lives past his relationship with Ginger, that he
completely and utterly realizes the genuineness of his homosexuality. Indeed, his relationship with
Ginger is momentous, however, the psychological reasons that led Toland into this relationship, and
the sociological factors that led him away from this relationship are equally as alluring. The cause of
this relationship is the offspring of the values instilled into Toland both by his family and the cultural
norms of the time. These norms consisted primarily of the idea of the nuclear family, the pervasive
mindset of the time period. These contingencies were also paired with the burden of living up to
societal norms. Ultimately, these led Toland to ultimately seek shelter in a heterosexual relationship,
from the torment social ostracism. Stuck Rubber Baby entails an extraordinarily complex and rich
tapestry of characters, deftly woven into the fabric of a consequential setting: The

New Belgium Commercial Analysis
The current television advertising for New Belgium is an extension of the personality of the company
(Ferrell Hartline, 2014). The original commercial was a manifestation of the life of an urban
professional who wanted to spend more time enjoying the mountain life in Colorado. The story is of a
guy named Tinkerer who rehabs a bike in order to go on a riding adventure across the Colorado
Mountains (Beirne, 2005). This is similar to the story of how New Belgium Brewery was founded
when Jeff Lebesch, the co founder went on a bike trip through Belgium and was inspired to brew a
beer based on yeast found on his journey. The Tinkerer commercial about following your folly was a
direct reflection of the culture and the spirit of New Belgium the company.

Though I never found the Bach Flower Therapy by my mild researching online, I am glad I get to

He was able to conclude that vaccine therapy had more in common with homeopathy than with
allopathic medicine. Dr. Bach searched and found that flowers had the same vibrations the bacteria
had. He saw the psychic components in physical illness. This helped him understand that each
different flower went with a certain type of mental state. And from his practice he had noticed that
with each personality, a specific illness would appear to the person. Thus, setting out in England to
find the flowers that would help the different people and their problems. He found that flowers had
their highest healing ability in full bloom around midday. With his knowledge of applying hypothesis
to patients, he was able to create the first 12 tinctures. Bach matched the properties of the plants to the
emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions of healing. After living with a disease and searching for
therapeutic flowers, Dr. Bach died in his sleep on November 27, 1936. He had left his assistant Nora

Dr. Bach would pick the flowers fresh each morning, when they were still wet, and placed them in a

Attempts to Create a New World Order The Axis Powers are a well known role of World War II, but
do you know about the countries involved in this pact? This pact was originally just between Germany

War II the Axis Powers was essential to why many of the countries who were part of it could go on
fighting as long as they had, even if they eventually lost. The Axis Powers actually consisted of so
many more than just the three most people think of while they were the main and first axis countries

Impossibility Within The Fantasy Of The Book Alphabet Of...
Impossibility within the Fantasy realm in Alphabet of Thorn and the Year of Our War
As Farah Mendelsohn stated, the most obvious construction of fantasy in literature and art is the
presence of the impossible and the unexplainable. In my perspective, both McKillip and Swainston
brilliantly expand our perception of the impossible by introducing us to different elements of fantasy
such as time travel in Alphabet of Thorn and an alternate reality known as the Shift in The Year of Our
War. The fantasy genre encourages us to keep an open mind as we delve into other worlds; simply put,
fantasy shows the readers how to perceive the world differently. While both of these novels clearly
create a delineation of the impossible through an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s important to note that even though the audience is aware of the impossibility of giant, flesh
devouring insects, we are persuaded that this world of fantasy is indeed real. After analyzing both
novels, one of the most significant similarities between the two would be the author s intentional
system of rules placed in the story in order to explain how the world operated. In the Year of Our War,
after god left the Fourlands, the Empire created a circle of 50 immortals to fight the war (93). Mortals
and immortals coexisted peacefully because of the hierarchal power system placed upon the Empire
and the King; not to mention their common enemy of swarming insects attacking all living beings. On
the other hand, the Alphabet of Thorn provided a history of the 12 Crowns of Raine and the individual
roles associated with the floating school, Royal Library etc. The authors, in their own writing style,
have revealed to us what is possible and considered the norm within their worlds. This makes it easier
for us to differentiate the reality from the impossible when those fantasy elements are introduced later
on in the plotline. For instance, in our mundane world, we perceive magic to be impossible, but it s
very much real in Raine. What deems to be impossible in one world becomes possible in another
story.

The War On Drugs And Its Effect On Society
Humans have the tendency to wage war on anything which they thing has a negative Fulsy 7
effect on their society or which may affect their way of life. Before the 19th century, alcohol was
considered a product of religious relevance and individualistic satisfaction, but latter people realized it
was being abused and in 1914 the Narcotics Tax Act was introduce. And later the 18 amendment was
introduced prohibiting the sale, manufacture, and transportation of alcohol with exception to religious
or medical use. This can be said to be the beginning of the war on drugs. A drug is a medicine or
substance which has a physiological effect when ingested or otherwise introduce into the body.
Example of some drugs include alcohol, marijuana, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Democrats on the other hand refuted these claims saying that it was a witch hunt against African
Americans and their leaders. Others claimed that Nixon was using the war on drugs as a way to
distract the nation from the things which were happening in his administration such as the Vietnam
War and also the scandals and allegations which surrounded him. Despite what the motives may have
been, the war on drugs led to an increase in incarceration, especially among African Americans, and
by so doing many families where destroyed and many African American children ended without
families and had to depend on gangs for shelter and protection. This widely increased the crime rates
since many people where unemployed. Christina Johns in her article clearly articulates that the war on
drugs was clearly a distraction from reality, a reality which was the abonnement and neglect of
minorities by the government. Johns explains that the Johns, Christina. The War on Drugs: Why the
Administration Continues to Pursue a Policy of Criminalization and Enforcement. Social Justice 18,
no. 4 (46) (1991): 147 65. war on drugs was actually a war on the minority population of Americans
and this war was effectively executed as many minorities today can barely get a job or even have an
admission to schools because they have a history of addiction. Therefore the so called war on drugs
initiated by the Nixon presidency was a failure.

Human Actions In David Suzuki s The Pain Of Animals
Over the past few decades, the impact of human behavior has had a profound effect on the rest of the
world. In David Suzuki s The Pain of Animals , he explores how he came to understand the results of
human actions on other living creatures. Reflecting on his work in genetics, as well as personal
experiences, David argues that humans act as though they are born with an inherent right to exploit
other living organisms as we see fit (Suzuki, 1989). He does this by exploring the emotional toll
humans have on animals and illustrates the effects of their use in research. I believe that animals are
born with an inherent right to life and should be treated with value and respect. On the other hand,
without the study of genes and biomedical research, healthcare would not have the medical
advancements that it has today. Previous laws on the use of animals in research were insufficient in
how researchers ought to treat their test subjects; they merely forbade cruel, deliberate harm from
being inflicted (Gilbert Kaebnick Murray, 2012). With increased ethical policies set in place, and
enforced, animal testing can continue as a beneficial tool in the advancement of healthcare.
Emotional Expressions of Animals
When debating over the ethics of animal testing the first thing to consider is the emotional expressions
of animals, particularly those elicited through human interactions. David s first experience of his
impact on animals was as a young child when he went hunting in

How does Porters Five Forces Model assist an organisation in their strategic planning? Before

Company strive to secure a competitive advantage over their rivals, I mean who doesn t want to be the
best? Although the intensity of rivalry varies within each industry and these differences can be
important in the development of strategy, but rather the five forces (Porter, 2008) being a strategy of
any sort, it acts a framework in securing a strategy. The only time where strategy is irrelevant, would

So when barriers for entry and exits are high, it means that companies have a higher potential to make
more profit and the opposite occurs when barriers are low. The threat of substitutes: where it refers to
substitute product as those that are available in other industry which can also fulfil the need and want
of the consumers. It can affect competition in an industry by placing an invisible ceiling on prices
which companies within the industry can charge, due to the fact that if the cost of substitute is low
then the consumers will tend to purchase substitutes, therefore limiting the prices that a company can
place on certain items to gain maximum profit. For example, lemonade can be substituted for a soft
drink. Generally, competitive pressures arising from substitute products increase as the relative price
of substitute products declines and as consumer s switching costs decrease. The bargaining power of
buyers is affected by the concentration and number of consumers, when buyer power is strong, they
gain the power to choose between producers and ultimately equip themselves with bargaining power
which then the producers will have to conform to in order to produce profit, under these conditions the
buyer has the most influence in determining the price of products. Also when buyers have strong
bargaining power in the exchange relationship, competition can be affected in several ways. Powerful
buyers can bargain for lower prices, better

The governing body of college football The National Collegiate Athletic Association is stakeholder
#3. The article I used is N.C.A.A Stiffens Drug Penalties and Expands Testing in Football written by

deals with why drug penalties and expanding testing had to be made in football. The year round
testing is being tried in football first then will process to other college sports. Football was chosen first
for the year round drug testing because of the prominent coverage of performance enhancing drugs
being used in football. Finally something needed to be done because of the threat to the athlete and
fair play in sports from the use of performance enhancing drugs. The fan is stakeholder #4 and I got

Greeting To An American Essay
There are certain customs based on the specific country a person should follow when entering a
country that is not familiar with them. This means that if a person is about to operate or visit a country,
they should study their specific customs so there isn t any miscommunication. For example, when
greeting someone, man to man, a handshake with the right hand is a common form and will possibly
linger a bit during the conversation. To women to women, a verbal greeting or even a handshake is
also common. Between a man and woman, verbal greetings are also welcome, along with a handshake
in a more formal or business situation. In Senegal, greetings are very important and questions about
your health, family, and different pleasantries. When greeting someone, do not rush the greeting and
hold a positive relationship. This is due to personal relationships being an important factor. ... Show

  • 4. Why Don t Boys Play With Dolls Essay The feminist movement has been trying to change the idea of traditional sex roles and stereotypes in society for decades, but maybe the issue relies on society instead of biological differences. While these biological differences and research show that there are small differences in cognitive brain activity between the sexes, they also propose a theory that this is the way it s supposed to be (Pollitt 2549). Although these differences exist it does not mean that sexes should have permanently assigned roles in society. Katha Pollitt, a feminist author and high profile activist wrote the essay Why Don t Boys Play With Dolls, published in 1995 in The New York Times Magazine. In the essay, she argues that biological determinism may reassure some adults about their present, but it is feminism, the ideology of flexible and converging sex roles, that fits our children s future (2549). Pollitt raises important ethical problems in her essay, gender roles and stereotyping. Throughout her essay she provides several claims to her argument and builds credibility with her audience by using rhetorical strategies. However, the argument also exhibits some minor flaws, which could in return limit its persuasiveness. This analysis will identify Pollitt s three main claims and the evidence she uses to support them. I argue that overall Pollitt provides an effective argument by building her credibility and expanding her audience with the use of rhetorical strategies, such as ethos, pathos, ... • 5. The Conquest of Greece by the Roman Empire and the Success... The successes of mystery religions in the Roman world were greatly influenced by the Roman expansion, especially the conquest of Greece by the Roman Empire where their cultures and traditions were adopted and modified (Perry et al. 2013, p. 122). This was the foremost reason of the initial spread of mystery religions, especially the cult of Hellenised Isis, in Rome. In addition, the political trade involving grains and slaves also played a significant role in the extended reach of the Hellenised cult of Isis among the Romans (Bowden 2010, p. 161). Moreover, the practices of the religion were considered to be appealing to the women and the poor. Gender equality was promoted and the distinct barriers between the different social classes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The conquest on Greece in particular, had led to a significant increase in the number of educated Greek slaves entering Rome (Perry et al. 2013, p. 126). According to Cumont, slaves were spreading their beliefs to the gods of their respective countries (1956, p. 24). It is therefore not surprising for mystery cults to enter and succeed in the Roman world. The mystery religion of Isis, for example, was considered to be the most successful mystery religion above all (Ferguson 1970, p. 106). This is due to the belief that Isis was ... [the] highest of the god ... (Apuleius Golden ass ex. 11.1). In addition, the practice of Roman religion could be seen as polytheistic. Hence, people tended to yearn for greater blessings from the gods and goddesses. In this case, Isis was considered to be an option. Moreover, Romans valued the different practises of their conquered states and even assimilated those practises into their own (Perry et al. 2013, p. 122). The conquests of numerous states, therefore, not only allowed Isis cults to succeed in Roman world but also provided Rome for its necessary resources. Political trade was another reason for the successes of mystery religions in the Roman world. To illustrate, the cult of Isis was able to succeed in Rome through the political agreement between Rome and Egypt in the early first century BC (Bowden 2010, p. 161; Kamm 1995, p. 96). According ... • 6. Pope Francis And Climate Change Essay One of the largest governing bodies in this world tends to be overlooked by many who do not share the same religious views as the Catholic Church. Lead by Pope Francis the bishops represent 51 million Catholics and with their influential lobbying arm in Washington, they affect public opinion not just in the pews, but also in statehouses and Congress. In recent years, they have devoted their time and resources to fighting against abortion, same sex marriage and contraception. Recently the have found common ground with Republican politicians and evangelicals who argue against the evidence that climate change is caused by human activity. With Francis as pope for the last two years, bishops say they can see how he is helping the image of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Francis used his predecessors as anchoring points in his doctrine. In his 1990 World Day of Peace speech, John Paul II declared the environment to be a moral priority of the Church, warning that world peace is threatened not only by the arms race, regional conflicts, and continued injustices among peoples and nations, but also by a lack of due respect for nature. Benedict XVI was nicknamed the green pope because he spoke on environmental issues so frequently; he had solar panels installed on the roof of the Vatican and even rolled out a hybrid version of the Popemobile. (The Pope s Moral Case for Taking On Climate Change The Atlantic) What I was able to gather from all this information is this is not the first time that the Church has taken on environmentalism. A former staffer at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops was quoted saying This didn t begin with Earth Day or Al Gore. It began with Genesis. At the core of his argument is third world countries will probably feel the largest impact of climate change in the coming years. Farmers are no longer able to grow the crops that they have for generations due to the rapid change in the environment causing the land to be too dry and the rainfall is too unpredictable or the temperatures are ... • 7. Comparing Stories Walk Two Moons And The Guest The two stories Walk Two Moons, by Sharon Creech and The Guest retold by Uma Krishnaswami share a similar theme of don t judge a person till you know them. Even though the two stories share a similar theme, the authors tell it in different ways. In the first novel Walk Two Moons the author shows the common theme through the characters thoughts, and feelings. For instance, Like Mr. Cadaver as I told you before. Maybe Mr.Birkway helped her chop up her husband and bury him and maybe they were getting worried and decided to disguise the spot with a rhododendron bush. Phoebe thought Mrs. Cadaver killed her husband and was judging her actions before knowing her and her backstory. Phoebe imagines the worst possible things when thinking of Mrs.Cadaver. Another piece of evidence that proves the theme is, Everywhere you looked was something startling: a stuffed squirrel, a kite in the shape of a dragon, a wooden cow with a spear piercing it s side. Both of the girls, Sal and Phoebe, thought that Mrs. Cadaver had a bunch of weird things on the walls and all over the place. The girls were judging the way her house was before they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One piece of evidence that contributes to the theme is, The rich man came to the courtyard to take a look. Seeing the old man in his ragged clothes, he waved a hand to the servant, then went back to join his elegant guest. This reveals that the rich man wouldn t let the man in just because his clothes weren t fancy enough. The rich man only invited him cause he looked better when he met him. Another piece of evidence that helps understand the theme is, When I arrived in rags, you turned me away. Now that I am dressed in finery, you treat me with honor. This demonstrates how some people treat others badly because of what they wear or looked like. Even if they don t know you or the reason why you wear those things or look like you ... • 8. Hinduism Essay Hinduism Hinduism cannot be described as an organized religion. One individual did not found Hinduism. Hinduism is God centered and therefore one can call Hinduism as founded by God. Hinduism is based upon Eternal Principles. If a great scientist like Einstein discovered or realized laws of physics, Hinduism would call him a great Rishi (Maharshi or seer of truth.) Such seers of truth are not confined to any one age or country. The classical theory is now being rejected by increasing numbers of archeologists and religious historians. Since Hindus believe that Hinduism pertains to all human beings many timelines begin with the creation of life and includes major human accomplishments. The Om is to Hindus As the cross is to Christians. It is made up of three Sanskrit letters, aa, au and ma which, when combined, make the sound Aum or Om. The most important symbol in Hinduism, it occurs in every prayer and invocation to most deities begins with it. As the symbol of piety, Om is often found at the head of letters, pendants, enshrined in every Hindu temple and family shrines. This symbol is actually a sacred syllable representing the Brahman or the Absolute the source of all existence. Brahman, in itself, is incomprehensible so a symbol becomes mandatory to help us realize the Unknowable. The syllable Om occurs even in English words having a similar meaning, for instance, omniscience , omnipotent , omnipresent . Thus Om is also used to signify divinity and authority. Its similarity with the Latin M as also to the Greek letter Omega is discernable. Even the word Amen used by Christians to conclude a prayer seems to be akin to Om. Second in importance only to the Om, the Swastika, a symbol that looks like the Nazi emblem, holds a great religious significance for the Hindus. • 9. Popular Film Conventions From its beginning in the 1890s, the film industry has never been stagnant. Consumers continuously spend their hard earned money on the films that are released in theaters every week. However, choosing which film to buy tickets for can be rather difficult. Thankfully, the hundreds of movies that have been released can be grouped into several genres such as, comedy, horror, and fantasy. A very popular film genre for all movie lovers is the comedy. A comedy is a film which is intended to amuse the audience with light hearted humor. The setting of this classification ordinarily takes place in a mythical, medieval, or other whimsical location. Several renowned films of this genre include the Labyrinth, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The film industry will never idle and will continue to rapidly produce movies, thus a system of organization is necessary. • 10. Abraham Flexner s Medical Education Reform Abraham Flexner was one of the most influential advocates of medical education reform in the United States. Born to German Jewish immigrants on November 13, 1866 in Louisville, Kentucky, Flexner attended Johns Hopkins and earned a bachelor s degree in 1886. Once earning his bachelor s degree, Flexner returned to Kentucky to teach Latin and Greek at the high school in Louisville. In 1890 Flexner opened Mr. Flexner s School , his own private college preparatory school based on the idea that there would be no formal curriculum, no examinations, and the students would not be graded on, nor any academic records kept of their work. Remarkably, the school stood out at preparing students for prestigious colleges (Institute for Advanced Study, n.d.). Flexner closed his school in 1905 and returned to college where he received his master s degree from Harvard in 1906. Flexner wrote a book entitled The American College in 1908 which was highly critical of American universities and their teaching methodology. Flexner s book gained attention from Dr. Henry S. Each community had their own folklores whereby they used oral traditions such us proverbs, tales and poems to ensure that everyone in the community, especially the children, knew and was aware of the customs. This helped develop a sense of pride and respect for the people s culture since they understood why some of the cultural practices were done and the consequences of going against these practices and customs. He also explains how people saw dragons as sacred whereby it was seen as some type of guardian to the people and provided them with protection and natural needs like rain. The book also tells of people, who had negative beliefs against the dragons; these were mostly Christians who to some extent even fought with the dragons. The belief that dragons were strong and mighty was seen as true since people who defeated dragons, mostly armies, were remembered as very great men. The popular belief that dragons guard great treasures in their caves is seen in this novel whereby the author states that people in those days tried to enter dragon caves which were guarded by these dragons. Various arguments on the beliefs of dragons and their existence are widely discussed in various articles by researchers of nature and animals. In an article done by Robert. M. May, some research shows that the myths about dragons might be actually true and that dragons really exist. The Negative Impacts Of Rising Sea Levels Over the past 100 years, global sea levels have risen at astounding rates and only now are governments, business, and people beginning to understand just how negatively this will affect the world, not only now, but in the future as well. For many ports the growing issue of how rising sea levels, both locally and globally, is one that they do not have a plan in place to address it. The ports face a negative impact from damage to both their own facilities and equipment, but also the infrastructure in the areas surrounding the port. Financing any additions or upgrades to a port s operations will be difficult for many reasons such as that the variability in the expected rise in sea level for the over the next century makes it difficult for accurate planning to be done. Rising sea levels has two main causes, increased glacier melt and the water itself expanding as it gets warmer known as thermal expansion (U.S.). The increased heat in water that is causing glaciers to melt and the water to expand is largely due to greenhouse gas emissions (U.S.). The dependence on fossil fuels by many countries around the world means that there will be difficulties in reducing continued damage to the atmosphere from greenhouse gasses ( Causes ). Another reason that greenhouse gas emissions have had such negative effect stems from the destruction of forests, particularly those in tropical locations ( Causes ). • 14. Environmental Problems Facing The Earth Patton, Cade AP Environmental Science The biggest environmental problem that faces Earth today is pollution. There are a bunch types of pollution on planet Earth but by far air pollution is the deadliest. Air pollution can inhibit the breathing of living organisms. Many major companies including Exxonmobil and Bp who are leading the air pollution race with a Exxonmobil averaging 39 million tons of emissions. These emissions are released into the air by the process of making gasoline and chemicals. The second biggest environmental problem Earth faces each year is the decrease of natural resources. When it comes to natural resources the depletion of fossil fuels and deforestation are destroying the planet. Deforestation is the removal of trees in a wide area to the point of where it s almost not a forest anymore. On the other hand the depletion of fossil fuels is scary because fossil fuels are a nonrenewable resource. They are nonrenewable because they are being used up faster than they are being created. And it can take up to millions of years for more fossil fuels to be created. And finally for my third pick of the biggest environmental problems facing the Earth is the depletion of its Ozone layer. Some chemicals named Chlorine and bromine are in the atmosphere and are deteriorating the Ozone layer which consists of three hydrogen atoms. 2. Tamas is known to be the darkness, and crudeness. They are the ones who are born with ignorance, and madness. Higher worlds are Sattva, middle worlds are rajas, and lower worlds are tamas. Each of the three Gunas tries to have higher power, and overpower one another. Our souls are known to be influenced by them. They are responsible for the behavior of all living things. The goal of the three Gunas is to create a bondage through desires. Understanding the three Gunas helps a devotee overcome their battles to accomplish perfection, and help us with complying with our duties. All three are responsible to get rid of desire actions in all beings. Instead of just putting these practices into use we should go beyond our own expectations. The one who is successful with all three Gunas is a qualified devotee. Therefore, we must begin our journey into this world. Another teaching the Bhagavad Gita offers is stability of mind. • 17. Examples Of Manliness In Okonkwo 2. Reread pages 52 54 and copy down quotations that help us understand Okonkwo s view of manhood or manliness . After each quotation, write down your analysis of it. One quotation that expresses Okonkwo s view of manliness states Okonkwo was always happy when he heard [Nwoye] grumbling about women. That showed that in time he would be able to control his womenfolk (53). This quotation shows that Oknonkwo feels pleasure when his son displays signs of power, such as the control of the perceived weaker gender. Ergo, Okonkwo views the subordination of others by his son as an example of masculinity. This idea is further supported by the quotation: No matter how prosperous a man was, if he was unable to rule his women and his children... he was not really a man (53). Oknonkwo clearly considers utter authority of one s nuclear family as a prerequisite to meet manhood. He literally states that a man without patriarchy in his family is not a man. Therefore, when Nwoye displays the early signs of this dominance, like the grumbling about his subordinate women s issues, Okonkwo is finally considering his son masculine as shown by his happiness. Okonkwo s view is further developed when he encouraged [Nwoye and Ikemefuna] to sit with him in his obi, and he told them stories of the land masculine stories of violence and bloodshed (53). The Past and Present of Terrorism and Counterterrorism in China Introduction This paper traces the evolution of China s indigenous conceptualization of terrorism and counter terrorism practice from Imperial China to the modern era. It mainly explores the historical and cultural underpinnings and the current pragmatic diplomacy that have shaped the evolution. Since the concept of terrorism did not originate in China and retains much ambiguity, it is helpful to understand the local characters within a comparative framework. The fundamental question then becomes what is terrorism in the contemporary world. In the United States ( U.S. ), the Executive Order 13224 defines terrorism as activity that (1) involves a violent act or an act dangerous to human life, property, or infrastructure, and (2) appears to be intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, kidnapping, or hostage taking. Despite that existing legal scholarship has paid much attention to the wide range of definitions of terrorism, the U.S. version is sufficient for the purpose of this paper. Interestingly, notwithstanding a want of the word terrorism in Imperial China and workable official legal definition of terrorism in modern China, terrorist like activities have long existed and been viewed as politically motivated violence against the state. ... In this paper, I will attempt to persuade you that Pluto should be promoted back to its original planet status. First, I will give you a brief history of Pluto, from its discovery to what prompted its reclassification. Centered around a Brahmin s son, Siddhartha, Hesse illustrates how powerful society is to both promote and hinder Siddhartha s pilgrimage towards spiritual enlightenment. It is through sin, lust, and profound despair that Siddhartha learned to not resist but to love all as is. Through this mindset of accepting everything, Siddhartha attains Nirvana. Siddhartha had one single goal to become empty, to become empty of thirst, desire, dreams, and sorrow to let the self die (11). This town, or society, was very monumental to the development of Siddhartha. It was necessary to isolate himself in this society. Though he was isolated, he felt separated and superior to the people, He saw people living in such childish or animal like way (57), which he laughed at; this was because he had been a Samana, where he had despised money, small pleasures, and trivial honors. These disadvantages and the support used proves that the segregated classroom allow the special needs students to focus and the general students to not be distracted as well. With the students undivided attention, the students , in excluded classrooms, grades improve greatly. As more people know about full inclusion, there is more of a chance to keep it out of school systems everywhere. Many times our own misconception can lead us to different perspectives and different point of views that cause a disunity between our ways of thinking. However nothing can be further than the truth and staying true to yourself. As for William Blake this is the exact concept efforted in his poem The Tyger as he introduces the concept of life s creation and questioning the creator of it. His coming out story ties in a cast of supporting characters who supplement Toland s odyssey. One especially important character is Ginger Raines, Toland s first significant girlfriend. Toland s journey hinges on his relationship with Ginger, for her character and her relationship with Toland symbolized what society as well as Toland considered normal at the time. It is not until he lives past his relationship with Ginger, that he completely and utterly realizes the genuineness of his homosexuality. Indeed, his relationship with Ginger is momentous, however, the psychological reasons that led Toland into this relationship, and the sociological factors that led him away from this relationship are equally as alluring. The cause of this relationship is the offspring of the values instilled into Toland both by his family and the cultural norms of the time. These norms consisted primarily of the idea of the nuclear family, the pervasive mindset of the time period. These contingencies were also paired with the burden of living up to societal norms. Ultimately, these led Toland to ultimately seek shelter in a heterosexual relationship, from the torment social ostracism. Impossibility within the Fantasy realm in Alphabet of Thorn and the Year of Our War As Farah Mendelsohn stated, the most obvious construction of fantasy in literature and art is the presence of the impossible and the unexplainable. In my perspective, both McKillip and Swainston brilliantly expand our perception of the impossible by introducing us to different elements of fantasy such as time travel in Alphabet of Thorn and an alternate reality known as the Shift in The Year of Our War. The fantasy genre encourages us to keep an open mind as we delve into other worlds; simply put, fantasy shows the readers how to perceive the world differently. It s important to note that even though the audience is aware of the impossibility of giant, flesh devouring insects, we are persuaded that this world of fantasy is indeed real. After analyzing both novels, one of the most significant similarities between the two would be the author s intentional system of rules placed in the story in order to explain how the world operated. In the Year of Our War, after god left the Fourlands, the Empire created a circle of 50 immortals to fight the war (93). Mortals and immortals coexisted peacefully because of the hierarchal power system placed upon the Empire and the King; not to mention their common enemy of swarming insects attacking all living beings. On the other hand, the Alphabet of Thorn provided a history of the 12 Crowns of Raine and the individual roles associated with the floating school, Royal Library etc. The authors, in their own writing style, have revealed to us what is possible and considered the norm within their worlds. This makes it easier for us to differentiate the reality from the impossible when those fantasy elements are introduced later on in the plotline. For instance, in our mundane world, we perceive magic to be impossible, but it s very much real in Raine. What deems to be impossible in one world becomes possible in another story. In David Suzuki s The Pain of Animals , he explores how he came to understand the results of human actions on other living creatures. Reflecting on his work in genetics, as well as personal experiences, David argues that humans act as though they are born with an inherent right to exploit other living organisms as we see fit (Suzuki, 1989). He does this by exploring the emotional toll humans have on animals and illustrates the effects of their use in research. I believe that animals are born with an inherent right to life and should be treated with value and respect. On the other hand, without the study of genes and biomedical research, healthcare would not have the medical advancements that it has today. Previous laws on the use of animals in research were insufficient in how researchers ought to treat their test subjects; they merely forbade cruel, deliberate harm from being inflicted (Gilbert Kaebnick Murray, 2012). With increased ethical policies set in place, and enforced, animal testing can continue as a beneficial tool in the advancement of healthcare. It can affect competition in an industry by placing an invisible ceiling on prices which companies within the industry can charge, due to the fact that if the cost of substitute is low then the consumers will tend to purchase substitutes, therefore limiting the prices that a company can place on certain items to gain maximum profit.
