Bachelor Tour Essay
I bought my ticket to the Death of a Bachelor tour in late November and have been anxiously
anticipating the show since. With incredible production, enticing setlists, and crowd enthusiasm to
boot, Panic! At The Disco did not disappoint.
First on the bill was Saint Motel (★★★★☆). While I knew a few of their songs, the others that I didn
t were still exciting to listen to. The crowd was engaged and able to dance and sing along to their
popular tracks like Move and My Type , and their utilization of entertaining production and graphics
made their performance noteworthy and a memorable start to the evening.
Next up was Misterwives (★★☆☆☆), who put on an okay show overall. I m a fan of some of their
music, however the songs didn t always translate well live, feeling ... Show more content on

Unlike Saint Motel, they did not use much production, but rather some lighting effects on stage to
entice the audience. Halfway through, they stopped and lead singer Mandy Lee gave a short speech
about acceptance and individuality. While the sentiment was heartfelt, the speech was a bit generic
and more off putting than rallying for the crowd. It did not aid Misterwives, either, to follow this up
with a cover of Chance The Rapper s Same Drugs , which was bland and stagnant in their otherwise
upbeat set. Overall, I was a bit disappointed with Misterwives and wish they would have done more
with their set.
Finally came Panic! At The Disco (★★★★★), who has been my favorite band since I was 12 years
old. They opened with new favorites Don t Threaten Me with a Good Time and LA Devotee , both of
which got the crowd on their feet and set a fast paced, electric mood for

Pros And Cons Of Social Categorization
Have you ever judged a person by their age, gender or appearance rather than really knowing them?
When you meet a tattooed man on the street, your first impression of him might be bad, i.e. a negative
categorization, since tattoos are associated with criminals and unemployed people. However, he could
be a person who does volunteer and works as a business manager. People tend to automatically
categorize a person into groups by visual judgements, demographic features, personality and own
perceptions or beliefs (Billig Tajfel, 1973). Social categorization is a process of classifying people into
different groups based on their similar characteristics and group memberships. It is a natural part of
social perception and serves a basic epistemic and identity function in organizing and structuring
people s knowledge about the world and make things become manageable in daily life (Bodenhausen,
Kang Peery, 2012). It occurs spontaneously without much thoughts (Crips Hewstone, 2007). In social
categorization, we usually form a general conclusion about other people and begin to respond to them
as a member of a particular social group than as individuals. It allows us to communicate and connect
with those who share the same or similar group membership. Social groups that we use in social
categorization can change under different situations and over time. Whaley and Link (1998)
discovered that there is a strong association between categorization and stereotype based judgments.

Gender Stereotypes In The 1980 s
The 1980 s are typically viewed as being a great decade for the United States; the Cold War came to
an end, the economy experienced major growths under President Reagan, and the United States was
starting to emerge as the sole world power whose actions with regards to foreign policy, economics,
and social culture would influence how the rest of the world would react in the decades that followed.
However, the 1980 s also consisted of the AIDS epidemic. The AIDS epidemic was first identified in
the United States in 1981 and by the time the first antiretroviral AZT was approved and released for
treatment of HIV/AIDs in 1987, 48,000 people had died directly as a result of AIDS, and over 700,000
people have died from 1981 2017.1 Many people that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both Joe and Louis are selfish; Louis in wanting to abandon his terminally ill boyfriend and Joe by

exist and that we shouldn t use it as the single standard that defines how good a person is.
Additionally, religion acts as a source of exposition in the play17; Millennium Approaches begins at
Louis grandma s funeral8 and the use of religion throughout the first act gives readers an idea of how
the characters are going to act based on their religious beliefs because in America, religious views and
political ideology are hand in hand.
Finally, religion and a belief in God also highlights the notion that Reagan s America wasn t that great
because certain religious groups during the time believed homosexuality to be a sin, and thus those
with HIV/AIDS were seen as being morally deficient and were to be avoided at all costs.10 In 1993, at
the height of the AIDS crisis, Evangelist Billy Graham said, Is AIDS a judgment of God? I could not

Analysis Of Truman Capote s The Cold Blood

In Cold Blood Reflection Paper The novel In Cold Blood by Truman Capote is truly a very intriguing
piece of literature. Based on a true story, the events of the novel follow the homicide of a loving
family who are brutally murdered in a single night and tensions within the community rise as the real
culprits are being searched for. Now the plot of the story isn t what makes this an extraordinary piece,
it s the tone and mood that Capote uses to describe certain events, characters, and even settings. When
it was revealed in the story that the reason for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he describes the Clutter family the mood is happy and joyful and his tone is almost like he is
over praising them as a family. This is because the Clutter family was seen as a perfect family that had
nothing wrong with ait and everyone got along with very well. Now for the two culprits it was
different. The tone and mood he used seemed to be pretty personal to both characters, as if they had
more to them than what appears. This is what started to get me excited. I believed that their backstory
had something to do with the Clutter family. One of the Culprits, Perry Smith, was in prison before the
events in the movie. Perhaps the Clutter family put him there for crashing a plane on their property of
something, I didn t know. Moving on to the events of the story, the tone and mood also had a similar
effect as well. When the two culprits were on their way to holcomb, they stopped by many places to
pick up some supplies. They pick up things like a rope and black stockings. Those two were used in
the crime but the way Capote describes it just had me thinking. Perry said in a casual tone, You got
any black stockings. Capote also said Next they were interested in rope. Now these two quotes make
almost no sense without context but the context surrounding these two quotes is unusual. The tone
used around them is very subtle as if what they were doing was not gonna end up in the murder of a
family. They go around picking these murder supplies but Capote s

Leadership Styles
Introduction
Leadership and management are two different subjects but both are essential for an organizations
growth. Leadership is A relationship through which one person influences the behaviour or actions of
other people (Smith P et al 2012), whilst Management is more about getting things done on a day to
day basis and ensuring consistency (Smith P et al 2012).In simple context Managers helps in doing the
right thing where as Leaders do the right things. Having a strong Leader and Management an
organization can reap the benefits of Competitive advantage as it would distinguish them to be an
organization with core values, goals and scope which will eventually help them grow. It is understood
that successful leaders do not habitually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since Virgin is in the long haul market and is operating in different countries the organizational
structure is more of a Divisional Structure , as the company is geographically mapped and is Customer
Orientated. Whereas O Leary s Ryanair could be classified to be using the Classical Approach of
Bureaucracy (Max Weber 1947), Weber states that a bureaucratic organisation is technically the most
efficient form of organisation possible................. The bureaucratic organisation becomes typical of all
the modern societies. (Pugh amp; Hickinson 1996)
There is not a single theory or approach to leadership that fails to recognize that a fundamental quality
of leaders irrespective of whether leadership is innate, learned, situational, or whatever is an ability to
inspire and motivate people (Clegg, S. Et al 2006 Managing and Organizations). One of the key
elements for a business to prosper is Motivation whether they are financial or Non financial
incentives. Both Branson and O Leary have contrasting styles of leadership and management which
further leads to different styles of Motivation. Branson being the fun loving personality he is interacts
with his employees. While Herzbergs Two Factor Theory (1959) Motivators appear to be the case for
Branson and his company, O Leary s on the other hand with his Low cost Driven and no Frills
Strategy fits more with the Process Theory for Motivation Like Equity Theory ( John Stacy Adams

Primary Overt Hypothyroidism
The patient s diagnosis is primary overt hypothyroidism. The patient presents with certain features
such as weight gain, weakness, excessively dry flaking skin, dry hair, sluggish movements,
constipation, bradycardia, diminished deep tendon reflexes, and bilateral edematous hands, which is
classical signs and symptoms for primary hypothyroidism. The patient laboratory test reveals she has
an elevation in serum thyroid stimulating hormone level along with low serum free thyroxin and
triiodthyronine levels, which indicates it is a dysfunction or abnormality in the thyroid gland as
opposed to the pituitary gland or hypothalamus (Gaitonde; Lohano; Porth, 2015, p. 780; Ross, 2014).

Theories of Motivation Essay
Theories of Motivation
According to Greenberg (1999) motivation is defined as a process of arousing, directing and
maintaining behaviour towards a goal. Where ‘directing refers to the selection of a particular
behaviour; and ‘maintenance refers to the inclination to behave with consistency in that manner until
the desired outcome is met.
Motivation is therefore the force that transforms and uplifts people to be productive and perform in
their jobs. Maximising an employee s motivation is necessary and vital to successfully accomplish the
organisation s objectives and targets. However this is a considerable challenge to any organisation s
managers, due to the complexity of motivation and the fact that there is no ready made ... Show more

Pleasant working conditions and annual recognition of the ‘Best salesman of the year and ‘Best
employee of the year , also enticed productivity and motivation.
On the other hand ‘Extrinsic motivation is related to tangible rewards such as salary, fringe benefits,
job security, promotions and conditions of work. (Mullins, 2002:P490). Therefore extrinsically
motivated behaviours are those carried out to achieve some tangible rewards or compensation.
Once again my employers excelled in designing an ideal incentive system, in their effort towards
employee motivation. They already offered very competitive wages, of course on the belief that the
more positive the reward the more likely the employee will be highly motivated and the better the
performance (Vroom, 1964). They later introduced a perpetual cash bonus scheme for the junior staff,
where every year instead of bonuses being paid out, they would be retained in the company s
employee fund. A bonus was typically a third of their net salary and with every completed year of
service their bonuses would grow.
However if the employees engaged in activities detrimental to the organisations operations, such as
pilfering, they would thus loose their accumulated bonus. This proved very effective in not only
retaining employees but also motivating them to work towards and within the organisational
parameters at maximum productivity. It also encouraged a sense of belonging and loyalty to the
organisation.

Chinese Immigrants And The United States
Introduction to Chinese Americans
The beginning of Chinese immigration to the United States first started in the 19th century, the
political unrest and economic pressures in China and the Gold Rush era in California prompted
thousands of Chinese immigrants to migrate to the United States to search for temporary work, and to
seek for the dreams of gold in the 1850s. Many of them arrived in America hoping to acquired wealth
to send money back to support their families and hoping to return back to their home after a few years
with wealth, but some of them entered the United States for freedom.
Through decades and decades of struggles and isolation, this immigrant group were finally able to find
a secure place in the life of this nation. The Chinese immigrants are now the third largest immigrant
group in the United States, the graph below shows the population growth in United States from 1980
to 2013, which in 2013 the Chinese immigrant population had reached over more than 2 million and
comprising 5 percent of the overall immigrant population (Hooper and Batalova, 2015).
Chinese immigrant s arrival in the United States
Many Chinese immigrants entered the United States as legal immigrant, half of them obtain lawful
permanent residence in the United States through family channels, and this traces back to the early
1980s, where most of the Chinese immigrants are originated from Guangdong, China, because of the
province s strong historical connection with Chinese America.

Analysis Of Lucy By Jamaica Kincaid
In Lucy, Jamaica Kincaid explores the disillusionment faced by the eponymous character upon
immigrating to the United States. The novel s style of narration allows Lucy s thoughts and emotions
to remain hidden. Despite this intense privacy, Lucy s disillusionment is clear. She had hoped that
moving around the globe would solve her problems but she still struggles with homesickness and her
relationship with her mother. Her move is disappointing. The erasure poem And Coldest also engages
disillusionment. The poem suggests the speaker has become disillusioned by observing the world, and
indicates their plan to be shut tight. The poem inspired me to consider the causes of Lucy s
disillusionment, and her failure to address her own emotions. As a recent immigrant, the causes of
Lucy s disillusionment are somewhat obvious. More enigmatic is her self avoidant, shut tight attitude.
In this paper, I argue that Lucy s disillusionment causes her to avoid the discomfort that comes with
self reflection.
Lucy s experience in the United States is dissatisfactory from the moment of her arrival onwards. She
describes her first night as gray black and cold and notes that no one told her January would be cold
(Kincaid 3 5). This comment marks the intensity of Lucy s transition. And Coldest, too, opens with an
unforgiving winter. The first lines, cold, and coldest, reflect not only the season but Lucy s experience
of it she has never experienced a night so cold. The unfamiliar season

The defense case in chief must mount a defense that either demolishes the prosecutor s case or, at a
bare minimum, creates reasonable doubt in the minds of the jury. A defendant has no burden of proofs
in any criminal case and can still prevail without introducing any evidence with the exception of
affirmative defenses. Based on the Fifth Amendment the defendant may choose not to testify to avoid
self incrimination. The defense counsel also calls defense witnesses for direct examination. Defense
testimony may also include expert witnesses who have special training and qualifications and are
permitted to offer opinions. The prosecution is permitted to cross examine each defense witness.
Reasonable Suspicion is a crime has or about to occur. If an officer has some suspicion of criminality
of a person they are allowed to do a limited stop and frisk of the individual just for the safety of the
officer. The Terry, courts have adapted the stop and frisk rationale to situations involving automobiles
and airport detentions. A reasonable level of force may be used to effectuate the stop if the individual
proves resistance. The subject may be briefly questioned about the unusual conduct; if the explanation
proves unreasonable, and the officer reasonably believes the person is armed and dangerous, he or she
may conduct a limited search of the outer clothing. The facts that generate an officer s reasonable
basis to suspect criminal activity may be derived from the

Permian and Cretaceous Mass Extinctions Essay
Assess the different hypotheses put forward for the mass extinctions at the end of the Permian and
Cretaceous (KT) Periods.
A mass extinction is an event in which at least 25 75% of species in the global environment are
eradicated in a short period of time. Where as a regional extinction event is when the extinction is
confined to a specific zone. Five mass extinctions have occurred throughout time, two of the most
well known of these are the Permian and Cretaceous extinction events.
There are several hypotheses that are used to explain the causes of mass extinctions. Climate change,
the warming or cooling of global environments over a short period of time, can lead to other
occurrences. Shifts in climate can cause extinction by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A crater, the Bedout crater, in Australia has been discovered. A bolide impact would have lead to mass
death of marine and terrestrial organisms. The force of the impact could have released methane from
stored organic matter and large earthquakes. These earthquakes would have triggered the volcanism in
the Siberian traps, leading to the release of large amounts of CO2 and sulfur dioxide. These gases
combined with methane previously released would have created a noxious atmosphere, combined with
climate change that killed a large scale of life.
It is most likely that a simultaneous occurrence of the different global environmental changes was
responsible for ending the Permian period, and the lives of 96% of species. Each environmental issue
is a major geological event, and amplified the other events, leading to catastrophic environmental
situation, in which barely any life could survive.
The Cretaceous Tertiary mass extinction, commonly referred to as the KT extinction, occurred 65
million years ago. As the most recant extinction event it is more easily studied as more evidence has
been preserved than for the earlier extinctions. This extinction is the most commonly known, as it is
the extinction of the dinosaurs, but the smallest scale mass extinction with only 76% of species dying

Angels In America Themes
Ignoring the past, allows for a cycle of oppression and intolerance, and is the action that restricts
progress. When Louis asks the Rabbi if he could leave Prior for the better good of progress and the

Forgiveness. Jews believe in Guilt, so Louis, as Jew, will suffer by that choice (25). Although the
Rabbi is simplifying both religions, guilt is based off solely regretting past doings, while forgiveness
is based letting go of the previous wrongdoings for a better future. The two characters that identify as
Jewish, Roy and Louis, are seen as rooting all ideas societies that exclude their identities. Louis, by

Chivalry was valuable to mankind so it became part of tradition. The tradition of chivalry is shown in

Security and the OSI Model Network security is a topic that reaches far beyond the realm of firewalls,

ARP is a simple protocol that was never designed for authentication. Any end station that has access to
the layer two environment can claim any IP address if the proper security measures are not taken. ARP
spoofing or ARP poisoning occurs when an attacker s computer forges its credentials to allow the host
to believe that it is the intended recipient. If the attackers computer forwards all of the data that is to
be sent to the intended host it is very likely that the man in the middle would go undetected. At any
time the attacker can make changes to the data that is forwarded, copy and use the data, or flood the
network with erroneous packets that cause data collisions and effectively bring network traffic to a
halt. The process of wardriving is a new threat that has surfaced with the popularity of 802.11 style
wireless connections. Poor security with these devices allows an attacker virtually unrestricted access
to the data link layer and beyond. It is not very difficult to walk around various areas in a busy
metropolitan area and pick up unsecured wireless signals and gain access to private networks where
the owner has little idea of you presence. The third layer is the network layer. In the network layer
data is routed through various physical networks while traveling to a known host. Information
contained in the network layer allows routers to make decisions on how the data gets to its destination.

Determining Abnormal Behavior
For this assignment, I am going to identify and analyze hypothetical and everyday challenges in
defining what is abnormal. I will also identify and evaluate the consequences of classifying a behavior
or individual as abnormal. Lastly, I will organize ideas in a logical structure and support my
statements with reasons and research information.
Determining abnormal behavior or a mental disorder are difficult for many reasons, one being that
every culture has certain morals for suitable conduct, or socially tolerable customs. Customs are
anticipated ways of conducting yourself in a society according to the mainstream; however, those
members of a society who do not think and act like everyone else break these standards, so they are
often defined as abnormal. In addition, the way a person thinks or the way a person conducts
themselves is classified as abnormal if it interrupts the unprinted rules about what is anticipated or
tolerable conduct in a certain social groups. An individual s actions may not be understood to others or
could possibly make others feel threatened or uncomfortable (McLeod, 2014). Another reason why

With the prospect of expanding further west, many Americans were interested in gaining authority
over lands occupied by the Native American people. Prior to the Dawes Severalty Act, each tribe had
communally owned land. Dawes Severalty Act made it law that Native American owned land was in
fact American land and that individual Natives owned a portion of their own land. This benefit was in
exchange of two features. Firstly, Native Americans were granted citizenship from the United States
of America. Secondly, the Native American people effectively have up an integral part of their culture:
community. In splitting the Native lands into smaller native lands, the U.S. was able to further its
goals. But, more than simply owning land was required for citizenship. Native Americans also had to
give up their culture and become integrated into the American way of life. This was ... Show more

Just as there was an influx of African Americans to learn English after emancipation, the importance
of communication was stressed at these institutions. For without language, Natives could never truly
become part of American society and in the case of one Indian boarding school, the Ezra A. Hayt is
quoted as saying, without educated women there is no civilization (Trennert). Teaching these Native
Americans language was a success. Consequences of this, however, included alienation from their
tribal family members. As Zitkala Sa explains in her essay, The School Days of an Indian Girl, My

How Western was Russia The question is not is not whether Russia was a western nation, it is to how
Western was Russia? This question has no set answer, it changes over time. Often times, throughout
history, situations change, often times change is made in order to perfect imperfect systems. Russia is
no different in this regard. Russia was less Westernized under the Mongols and the rule of the Ivan s
up through Ivan IV, but became more westernized under the rule of Peter I. Russia under the rule of
the Mongols was not Western in any significant way. The Mongol ruler over Russia were by Khans, ...

His accession to the throne appears to be a turning point. There appears to be a very small softening of
attitudes and the style of rule used in regards to governing Russia. He sought to make nobles do their
duty instead of merely leaching of the labor of serfs and of the state budget. Nobles were required to
work and be productive such as performing service in either the military or in the government.
Additionally Peter I also known as Peter the Great tried to gain the support of his people instead of
ruling through force alone. He did this by explaining the decisions he made. This does not result in a
participatory government but it does seek to remove the veil of secrecy that lingered over it. This was
a small step towards the style of certain Western Governments such as the United Kingdom where the
monarch was constrained by parliament. Albeit explanations did not allow popular participation in
government, it was progress. Progress does not come over night; it is often the product of small

The Giant store brand was founded by the Teng family as a simple grocery store in one of the suburbs
of Kuala Lumpur in 1944. Its mission was to offer a wide variety of products at the lowest possible
prices. As its reputation grew, so did its business.
Dairy Farm, which acquired Giant in 1999, recognized that the key to Giant s success had been its
ability to continuously offer value for money products. It retained this core principle even as it began
transforming Giant into a national and international brand.
After six years of effort, which included redesigning the stores, the introduction of the non food
products into the Giant hypermarkets, the implementation of international retail standards that
includes safety, cleanliness, structured training, and a vibrant shopping environment as well as
centralized buying functions and improved operations, Dairy Farm has made Giant the undisputed
leader in Malaysia s retail sector.
In 1999, the first Giant Hypermarket store opened in Shah Alam, Selangor. By 2007, the company had
grown to operate a total of 85 hypermarkets/ supermarkets in Malaysia with outlet size ranging from
the 350,000 sq. ft hypermarket in Shah Alam to the 11,000 sq. ft supermarket in Bangsar, Kuala

President Elect Donald Trump will enter office January 20, 2017. He has many great plans and ideas

Trump s plan will improve the United States, but can do some damage to the U.S. Currently, the
United States is in twenty trillion dollars in debt. The main question is: Is Trump the right man for the

them away. To do that he has to first renegotiate NAFTA or get rid of it (Fernandez 2).What is NAFTA
and what mess it is creating? Basically, a trade agreement between the USA, Mexico and Canada
formed by Bill Clinton, and it has let many Americans without jobs because most of them have gone
to Mexico. That is the main reason Donald J. Trump hates this agreement and how it has destroyed the
United States economy to bits and pieces. Additionally, what makes Trump fierce is that China has
been stealing American trade secrets for many years. He clearly stated, If China does not stop its
illegal activities, including its theft of American trade secrets, I will use every lawful presidential
power to remedy trade disputes, including the application of tariffs consistent with Section 201 and
301 of the Trade Act of 1974 and Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 (Fernandez 3).
Clearly, this shows that Trump is serious about his job and doesn t care if he is dealing with China.
China has been stealing all our trade secrets and Barack Obama didn t do anything about it. In brief,
this clearly shows that our future President has the characteristics and personality of a true leader that
is ready for this great battle.

newly elected president, Donald J. Trump, has shown through his economic plan that he will bring

The African Continent has been the place that is known as a mystery for the Europeans. Despite of the
fact Europeans knew little about the mainland, its people, traditions, conventions, but a considerable
measure of them were profoundly inquisitive about the landmass, and most importantly its natural
resources and raw materials. In the 19th century, European kingdoms began to give careful
consideration to Africa and a great deal of researchers, explorers and travelers overflowed Africa. The

The Effect Of Ph Levels On Daphnia
This experiment is being performed to show the effect of pH levels on daphnia by changing pH levels
and measuring the heart rate.
Introduction
Daphnia are used to test water toxicity, they are a vital part of fresh water ecosystems. They are a food
source for smaller fish and invertebrates and considered to be a consumer of algae and bacteria
(Elbert, 2005). These small crustaceans range in size from 2 5mm long and are commonly referred to
as water fleas. Daphnia belong to the group called Daphniidae, which is a relative of freshwater
shrimp. It is easy to see the internal organs of daphnia because of a transparent taco shell like
carapace. A carapace is the hard outer part of a shell or covering. A daphnia s life span can range
between 1 56 days. (Elenbaas, 2013; Clare 2002). The comfortable pH level for daphnia is between
7.2 and 8.5 (Clare, 2002).
In this experiment different pH levels ranging from 3 to 11 were used to test the effects on daphnia
heart rate. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14. A pH ranging from 0 to 6 is acidic, a pH of 7 is neutral,
and a pH higher than 7 ranging from 8 to 14 is basic. PH revolves around hydrogen ions (H+). The
reason pH levels can be acidic, basic, or neutral is because acids give hydrogen ions away while bases
accept hydrogen ions. (Decelles, 2002).
The intention of the experiment was to measure how different pH levels affect the heart rate of
daphnia. The objective of this experiment was to measure the heart rate of

I was not the only one who was obsessed; in recent years, interest in names has spiked as parents

Environmental Effects Of Shark Fin Consumptio In...
Introduction In recent years, environmental discoveries have brought forward startling numbers in
animal and plant populations since the introduction of human interaction. As human population begins

are in the midst of another great extinction and for the first time, natural causes are not behind it.
Humans habit of overconsumption is the root of the issue. Although there have been multiple
movements being pushed to control these practices, they are either not enforced or loopholes are
found around the law. The Asian nations are notorious for their consumption of aquatic life, as well as
the lengths that they go to in order to obtain the animals. In Hong Kong, the increased demand for

How Did Zen Buddhism Influence Japanese Culture
Zen Buddhism was introduced to Japan in the 12th century, although it became really prevalent during
the 14th century. It accentuated enlightenment through instinct and meditation and as Zen teachings
grew through Japan its influences could also be seen in their culture. Zen principles could be seen in
Japanese art through their themes and method of illustration, and other cultural customs like the
Japanese tea ceremony. The ceremony first started in humbler forms in Zen temples as a symbol of
leaving the world to nurture the mind and spirit. The ceremony involved the ceremonial preparation,
serving, and drinking of tea.
The custom first began in China, but became something more refined in Japan, where it crested in the
Momoyama period. Around the 15th and 16th centuries The Japanese Tea Ceremony offered Japanese
a momentary break from everyday worries. The traditions spread to social groups like wealthy
merchants and the samurai. The samurai would exhibit their prized collections, Chinese objects, like

constant battle with himself throughout the whole story. This being because he has started drinking at
all times so that he can hear a click in his head and become peaceful. The reason that he drinks is
because he feels he is responsible for his friends Skipper s death. Brick s drinking is important to the
play because it shows his disinterest in almost everything that occurs during the book. For example,
while the will of Big Daddy s is being discussed, Brick is outside on the balcony having a drink.
Gooper says to Maggie during this scene Why don t you go out there and drink with Brick? (Williams
149). This also is important because it shows that they characters in the play realize that Brick has no
interest in anything besides his drink. Brick is an interesting character because he is the only one who
does not thrive for Big Daddy s love, yet he is the only one who receives it. Brick can also be
described as a character who is disgusted. He is disgusted with many events in this play. Cat on a Hot
Tin Roof was heralded by some as the play in which homosexuality was at last to be presented without

the play is another reason Brick is disgusted. He is disgusted with the world for the most part because
nobody understand that his and Skipper s relationship was not a homosexual one.He states Why can t

Howard Gardner And Gardner s Theory Of Multiple Intelligences
Numerous are growing interested in what makes them who they are, along with how exactly they fit
into society. In fact, a variety of concepts exist that individuals commonly apply to their own identity.
Aiding people, the ideas help explore who they truly are as well as help understand themselves better.
But at the same time, they can either be helpful and relate to you with your identity, or do the
complete opposite. Of the broad amount of concepts to the identification of people, there are three that
exist named Gardner s Theory of Multiple Intelligences, Adler s Birth Order, as well as learning styles.
Each person is unique in their own way, especially the outstanding capabilities of their mind. For
example, it is common to only know of the visual learning, auditory learning, and kinesthetic learning
aspects, but what people do not know is that the mind goes beyond that (Lane). Developed by Howard
Gardner exists the Multiple Intelligences, which consists of nine different intelligences. Of all of the
intelligences exists Verbal linguistic, Logical mathematical, Spatial visual, Bodily kinesthetic,
Musical, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Naturalist, and Existential (Howard Gardner s Theory of
Multiple Intelligences). According to Gardner, each person has a unique blend of capabilities and
skills, which students could balance out their skills if they discovered their strengths (Lane).

Mistakes To Avoid Making When Settling A Personal Injury
Before your personal injury claim goes to trial, it is typically to attempt to settle the case outside of
court. While settling will save you from having to pay the costs associated with going to court, it s
possible that you could get a settlement that is lower than what you deserve. Avoid making these
common mistakes when settling a personal injury claim.
Making Recorded Statements To An Insurance Adjuster

Chances are that this is not the absolute last offer you will receive, and it is just a way to pressure you

Settling a personal injury case involves a lot of back and forth dialogue. You can always counter their

Asking For Too Much Money
While you do not want to make the mistake of asking for not enough money, be careful of asking for
too much as well. It demonstrates that you do not understand the value of the injury claim, and may
lead to being taken advantage of.
Work with a lawyer to determine an appropriate amount to ask for in your initial demand letter. The
amount that you request will be accepted or it will go down during negotiations, but chances are it will

Your settlement amount will factor in additional medical costs related to your injury that have not yet

Virtue In Socrates And Menon
In Plato s Menon, Socrates and Menon discussed about the nature of virtue and whether it can be
taught. The definition of virtue varies a lot through the whole conversation. Even though Socrates and
Menon failed to reach a precise definition of virtue after spending amount of time and effort, their
arguments enlightened my idea that virtue consists in the ability to take the responsibility to good
purpose and a willingness to explore and learn. Virtue is not some sort of knowledge that can be
acquired by teaching or through predecessors, instead, being virtuous can be achieved by constantly
discovering and applying true opinions.
To begin with, being able to take the responsibility to good purpose consists a crucial portion of virtue.
Socrates firstly asked Menon the definition of virtue before figuring out if virtue can be taught. Menon
brought up several possible explanations, which, however, were rejected by Socrates. The first one is
that virtue is a specific thing among different people. To illustrate, for instance, for men, virtue is to be
good to friends and to harm the enemies; for women, virtue is to manage the housework and take care
of their family. However, this explanation only showed that various forms of virtue exist among
different people; Menon failed to clearly identify the virtue by pointing out how these examples can
share in common. From my perspective, even though people in the society may have different roles,
they all take responsibilities and make efforts to do their job. More importantly, what they do benefits
either themselves or society and does no harm others. For instance, thieves can not be virtuous
because even though they might make efforts to steal from others, they benefit themselves by
impairing people s interest and disturbing the social order.
Virtue does not consist in justice, instead, justice is one of forms of being virtuous. Menon later
modified his definition of virtue several times; he believed that virtue is the ability to rule with justice
and the ability to obtain justly. Socrates objected his answers because he used one term, which is
justice, to define virtue. From my point of view, being just, however, is only one aspect of being
virtuous. On the other hand,

Reasons Why The North Won The Civil War
The Union won the American Civil War and reunited the country for several different reasons that
changed over time. The North had advantages and successes that ebbed and flowed throughout the
course of the war, while the South continued to make the same mistakes. A combination of Union
success and Confederate failures ended the war in favor of the North and without one of them; it is
hard to judge the outcome of the war. At the start of the war, the Union had a clear advantage in
manpower and resources, which lasted throughout the war. When the Confederacy broke away, they
consisted of eleven states compared to twenty three of the Union. Consequently, the North had a
population of twenty three million while the South only had nine million, three and a half million of
which were enslaved blacks. To combat this, the Confederates had to mobilize a massive proportion of
its population. A whopping eighty percent of military age white men had to enlist. The South only
produced seven percent of all manufactured goods when the war broke out. ... Show more content on

In this, I find that incentives do not alter the attitudes that underlie behaviors. Incentives hinder

(Kohn) When it comes to incentives we find to learn to rewards rupture relationships. We read that
managers understand that coercion and fear destroy motivation and create defiance, defensiveness,
and rage. The KITA or Kick in the pants coined by Herzberg may produce movement but never
motivation. Yes when someone lights a fire under our butt it may help us move towards production for
a little but it won t ultimately motivate us for long term success. (Kohn)
Relationships among employees are often casualties of the scramble for rewards. Leaders of the Total
Quality Management movement have emphasized that incentive programs and performance appraisal
systems that accompany them reduce the possibilities for cooperation. Peter R. Scholtes, a senior
management consultant at Joiner Associates Inc. mentions that people are using the system for only
personal gain and the collective gain is thrown out the window. Without cooperation there will be no
quality in work. We learn that the competition for rewards will destroy cooperation. There are more
people who lose out on the rewards then who win. When the recognition of such rewards is publicized
through use of memos, newsletters etc. the result of losing is even more impactful to the employee.

The Environment Of The Oceans
46,000 pieces of plastic trash float in every square mile of ocean...the whole ocean is now infected
with plastic. It s impossible to get it out (Ellingwood). The public and the government continues to
deny this statistic, as they claim it is too expensive to clean up the oceans. However such people take
the ocean for granted. It is essential for them to realize that the ocean is an important part of our
ecosystem, and therefore impacts all of humanity. Furthermore, not only do people harm themselves,
but due to their carelessness, ignore the life of the marine creatures as well. Personal responsibility
should not be the only reason for the world s caution, because the ocean is a lifeline of survival for
many, as it controls their jobs, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The decreased amount of fish would result in a decreased amount of food supply for a variety of
species, consequently leading to a decrease in biodiversity. This biodiversity is the source of food for
many, and if continuously polluted, could increase the risks of toxins, thereby damaging many peoples
health. Many articles do explain how the sea life is dying, consuming plastic bags that look
remarkably like one of their favorite foods (Gold). While such events do not directly impact humans,
once these creatures are consumed by people, they do affect the people in negative ways. Marine life
is a necessary part of many lives as it contains many nutrient such as omega 3 fatty acids, protein, as
well as anti cancer properties. These nutrients are not available in all vegetables so it is vital to keep
the marine creatures healthy in order for the world to be able to eat the sea life without being poisoned
too. Nevertheless for those who do not rely on the oceans for food, they do for transportation. Ships
transport a large number of products overseas and if the there is so much trash in oceans, the ships
could get sidetracked and go the wrong way. The massive amount of trash becomes hazardous as they
create, huge garbage patches in ocean gyres, giant gyres, giant dead spots formed by currents and
winds...the Eastern Garbage Patch...is estimated to be

Application Of A Digital Certificate
Joel Abstract: When one submits a request for information to a service, it being a HTTP or a SOAP
request SMTP or other protocols, one must ensure that the service is indeed the entity that it claims to
be (Rouse, 2013). In public key encryption, the verification of the public key origin is especially
important when one is submitting encrypted information over the internet which it may be sensitive.
Digital Certificates are the main method to verify identity of entities holding public keys rendering
services over the internet (Image 1) (Rouse, 2013). Image 1 Accepting Connection Image 1.2 Browser

2014). When a certificate is minted, it has a day of which it will expire. When the certificate expire, a
new one will be minted. But if there is a certificate theft, the certificate will be alive for the length of
its life. The certificate owner will mint a new one, but there is another certificate in the wild with
equal legitimacy which can be used to falsify someone s identity (Gibson, 2014). A stolen certificate
can be a danger to secure internet communication because a bad actor can impersonate a legitimate
entity and thus potentially stealing encrypted information (Gibson, 2014). There isn t a good way to
revoke certificates. This paper will analyze and study the best

Chinese Politics And Comparative Communist Systems Essay
A Party State exists when the party and the state are interconnected within the state s leadership,
organizations, and society from the top down. Sujian Guo states in his book Chinese Politics in
Comparative Communist Systems, The existence of the party state and the blending of the political
and administrative functions is one of the distinctive characteristics of the communist system world
wide (Guo 9). These Party State Relations occur in all communist countries. There are many key
features of Party State Relations. Firstly, the members of the controlling party (China Communist
Party) have a key role in political decisions. The party holds major influence in major political
appointments, promotions, and dismissals of the members of the legislature, the state administration,
and the judiciary. This influence allows the party to maintain control over the goals and actions of the
government and to ensure that they aligned with that of the controlling party. Another key feature of
the Party State relations is that the parties infiltration of the government allows them to make
decisions in all of the state affairs and institutions because they are led by the party leaders. The Party
State has officials covering all areas of the government, such as; ministers, state presidents, presidents
of parliament and judiciary, officers in the military, the police, etc. The number of positions held by
party leaders creates a strong control over the different divisions of the

Effects Of Colonization On The Africana Continent
Effects of colonization on the Africana continent are undisputed. Valuable natural resources were
exploited from the countries by the native people for profit in Europe leaving many with minimum
means to survive. Lands and families that had torn apart at the hands of the colonists were trying to be
rebuilt. Peoples culture and traditions, viewed as barbaric and backward by the powerful Europeans,
were once again weaving itself into daily lives. Pride was once again among the people. Jomo
Kenyatta, known as the Father of the Kenyan Nation, was a man who came from the land he was
fighting to reclaim for himself and his people. Land that was simply taken from them, regardless that
generations of their family had lived there. Kenyatta ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was one of the earliest Kikuyu to leave the confines of his own culture. The Presbyterian
missionaries educated him in the Bible, English, math and carpentary. In August 1914 he was baptized
with the name Johnstone Kamau. He would later adopt the name Kenyatta from the Kikuyu word for a
type of belt he wore, and then the first name Jomo.
Around 1922, Jomo Kenyatta left for the urban life of Nairobi and worked as a clerk in the Public
Works Department. It was in Nairobi that he became involved in early African protest movements and
joined the Kikuyu Central Association (KCA) in 1924. First Pan Kenyan nationalist movement was
led by Harry Thuku to protest the white settler dominance in the government. His party, the east
African Association, traced it s roots to the early Kikuyu political groups and was supported by several
influential and militant Asians. Thuku was arrested by the colonial authorities in 1922 and was exiled
for 7 years. His arrest resulted in the massacre of 23 Africans outside Nairobi s police station. He was
released only after agreeing to cooperate with the colonials, a decision that cost him the leadership of
the Kikuyus. This incident united Kenya s African communities and set the stage for the entry of Jomo
Kenyatta, who stepped in and filled the leadership after Thuku.

Easter Island Research Paper
Easter Island is a remote volcanic island in Polynesia that is well known for its giant moai statues
jotted all along it. Many scientists come to Easter Island to study how and why the statues were made.
These statues have an average weight of about 20 tons and an average height of 20 feet. Historians are
not sure how the native people of Easter Island, also formally known as Rapa Nui, were able to drag
and place these large statues in their intended locations, but the most commonly accepted theory is
that the people used long pieces of ropes to drag these statues to their places. The Moai statues were
carved from the solid volcanic ash of the volcano Rano Raraku. They were then taken to quarries on
top of the volcanoes, where the people used ropes to hold the statues at a 45° angle so they could be
carved even more in more detail. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, when the statues were at their resting place, they were lifted up onto a platform called an ahu.
The ahus were also used as the burial place for the person who the statue was built for. Once placed
atop the platform, eye cavities were carved into the head and they added eyes made of coral and red
scoria stone. This was the process by which all of the island s 887 statues were made. It was an
advanced method for people to use in 900 A.D. The Moai statues show the advancing culture of the
Rapa Nui people. The first ones that were made were very short and stout, but the statues made more
recently were very large and slender. The statues tell a lot about the native people s culture, since they
show the religion of the people and their way of demonstrating their social

Essay on Virtue as Habit
Virtue as Habit
The aim of this essay is to examine the following question. Does it make a difference in moral
psychology whether one adopts Aristotle s ordinary or Immanuel Kant s revisionist definition of virtue
as a moral habit? Suppose it is objected, at the outset, that these definitions cannot be critically
compared because their moral theories are, respectively, aposteriori and apriori, and so
incommensurable. Two points of commensurability and grounds for comparative evaluation are two
basic problems that any theory in moral psychology must address. They are moral ignorance (I don t
know what I ought to do) and weakness (I don t do what I know I ought to do).(1)
In the Nicomachean Ethics (hereafter Ethics), Aristotle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
. . uniformity of action which by frequent repetition has
become a necessity, then it is not a skill proceeding from
freedom and accordingly not a moral skill (66).
Further, inner freedom is a rational self control which enables one to subdue one s emotions and to
govern one s passions (67). Essential here is his claim that a virtue is not a free skill unless it is a free
act of a moral will which in adopting a rule also declares it to be a universal law (66 67). Kant s
concept of willing (i) freely and (ii) universally leads to his revisionist definition of virtue as moral
habit.
The key to (i) is to be found in his insistence on the cognitive certainty of the following metaphysical
thesis. Even if the phenomenal self is completely determined causally, the moral self is free because it
is noumenal (see the Critique of Practical Reason 28 34, 43 52, 55 59, 100 106; hereafter Practical
Reason). He claims that the noumenal self is a cause imminent in experience because it is an efficient
cause through Ideas (50). In short, Kant rejects the formation of moral habits through repetition in
order to protect radically the freedom of the moral agent from phenomenal and scientific determinism.
The key to (ii) is Kant s rejection of Aristotle s following advice. Since the cognitive results of a kind
of reasoning is determined by its subject matter, it is foolish to require of moral reasoning the certainty
and precision one can expect

How Did The Cpr Affect Canada
The Impact of the CPR on the development of Canada The Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) is the
transcontinental railway which caused a dynamic impact in the development of Canada. From
building towns, increasing the economy value, and providing Canada a faster mode of transportation.
The CPR s original purpose was to convince British Columbia to join confederation as the First prime
minster John A. Macdonald, promised. However, early on in the process of building this railway
Macdonald ran into some financial issues, as a result caused a political scandal involving the CPR.
The pacific scandal, the name of this scandal, revolved around Macdonald, Sir Hugh Allan, a
financially wealthy industrialist, and the CPR s future. Due to Macdonald s, political campaigning

Mackenzie, also disagreed with the construction of the railway but he did allow the Canadian Pacific
Survey to continue to survey possible routes the railway could take. After Mackenzie s term in office
was over Macdonald won the elections once again and began searching for the CPR s backers, which
he eventually did. The backers were actually three private investors whom became to to known as The
CPR Syndicate, moreover they also had monopoly on all rail tariffs west of Lake Superior for the next
ten years. As soon as their contract was approved the CPR Syndicate altered the railway s original
route and moved it around 300 kilometers south, into the southern prairies which in turn gave the CPR
more control of how the area would develop, though because of this unforeseen change of plans, the
Canadian Pacific Survey had then become irrelevant. Constructing the CPR had then proved to be
quite a hassle for it was not going well, along with the its snail like progress. To confront this
dilemma, the CPR Syndicate hired William Van Horne with hopes that he would transform the CPR s
dire situation, in fact Van Horne exceeded their

  • 2. Bachelor Tour Essay I bought my ticket to the Death of a Bachelor tour in late November and have been anxiously anticipating the show since. With incredible production, enticing setlists, and crowd enthusiasm to boot, Panic! At The Disco did not disappoint. First on the bill was Saint Motel (★★★★☆). While I knew a few of their songs, the others that I didn t were still exciting to listen to. The crowd was engaged and able to dance and sing along to their popular tracks like Move and My Type , and their utilization of entertaining production and graphics made their performance noteworthy and a memorable start to the evening. Next up was Misterwives (★★☆☆☆), who put on an okay show overall. I m a fan of some of their music, however the songs didn t always translate well live, feeling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike Saint Motel, they did not use much production, but rather some lighting effects on stage to entice the audience. Halfway through, they stopped and lead singer Mandy Lee gave a short speech about acceptance and individuality. While the sentiment was heartfelt, the speech was a bit generic and more off putting than rallying for the crowd. It did not aid Misterwives, either, to follow this up with a cover of Chance The Rapper s Same Drugs , which was bland and stagnant in their otherwise upbeat set. Overall, I was a bit disappointed with Misterwives and wish they would have done more with their set. Finally came Panic! At The Disco (★★★★★), who has been my favorite band since I was 12 years old. They opened with new favorites Don t Threaten Me with a Good Time and LA Devotee , both of which got the crowd on their feet and set a fast paced, electric mood for ... • 3. Pros And Cons Of Social Categorization Have you ever judged a person by their age, gender or appearance rather than really knowing them? When you meet a tattooed man on the street, your first impression of him might be bad, i.e. a negative categorization, since tattoos are associated with criminals and unemployed people. However, he could be a person who does volunteer and works as a business manager. People tend to automatically categorize a person into groups by visual judgements, demographic features, personality and own perceptions or beliefs (Billig Tajfel, 1973). Social categorization is a process of classifying people into different groups based on their similar characteristics and group memberships. It is a natural part of social perception and serves a basic epistemic and identity function in organizing and structuring people s knowledge about the world and make things become manageable in daily life (Bodenhausen, Kang Peery, 2012). It occurs spontaneously without much thoughts (Crips Hewstone, 2007). In social categorization, we usually form a general conclusion about other people and begin to respond to them as a member of a particular social group than as individuals. It allows us to communicate and connect with those who share the same or similar group membership. Social groups that we use in social categorization can change under different situations and over time. Whaley and Link (1998) discovered that there is a strong association between categorization and stereotype based judgments. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Gender Stereotypes In The 1980 s The 1980 s are typically viewed as being a great decade for the United States; the Cold War came to an end, the economy experienced major growths under President Reagan, and the United States was starting to emerge as the sole world power whose actions with regards to foreign policy, economics, and social culture would influence how the rest of the world would react in the decades that followed. However, the 1980 s also consisted of the AIDS epidemic. The AIDS epidemic was first identified in the United States in 1981 and by the time the first antiretroviral AZT was approved and released for treatment of HIV/AIDs in 1987, 48,000 people had died directly as a result of AIDS, and over 700,000 people have died from 1981 2017.1 Many people that ... Both Joe and Louis are selfish; Louis in wanting to abandon his terminally ill boyfriend and Joe by being married to Harper despite not being attracted to her. Ultimately, Kushner uses religion to attempt to unify playreaders by showing how needlessly divided we are over something that may or may not exist and that we shouldn t use it as the single standard that defines how good a person is. Additionally, religion acts as a source of exposition in the play17; Millennium Approaches begins at Louis grandma s funeral8 and the use of religion throughout the first act gives readers an idea of how the characters are going to act based on their religious beliefs because in America, religious views and political ideology are hand in hand. Finally, religion and a belief in God also highlights the notion that Reagan s America wasn t that great because certain religious groups during the time believed homosexuality to be a sin, and thus those with HIV/AIDS were seen as being morally deficient and were to be avoided at all costs.10 In 1993, at the height of the AIDS crisis, Evangelist Billy Graham said, Is AIDS a judgment of God? • 5. Analysis Of Truman Capote s The Cold Blood Jonathan Hernandez C.L.I.M Mrs. Annesley AP English Lang Comp 10 August 2017 In Cold Blood Reflection Paper The novel In Cold Blood by Truman Capote is truly a very intriguing piece of literature. Based on a true story, the events of the novel follow the homicide of a loving family who are brutally murdered in a single night and tensions within the community rise as the real culprits are being searched for. Now the plot of the story isn t what makes this an extraordinary piece, it s the tone and mood that Capote uses to describe certain events, characters, and even settings. When it was revealed in the story that the reason for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When he describes the Clutter family the mood is happy and joyful and his tone is almost like he is over praising them as a family. This is because the Clutter family was seen as a perfect family that had nothing wrong with ait and everyone got along with very well. Now for the two culprits it was different. The tone and mood he used seemed to be pretty personal to both characters, as if they had more to them than what appears. This is what started to get me excited. I believed that their backstory had something to do with the Clutter family. One of the Culprits, Perry Smith, was in prison before the events in the movie. Perhaps the Clutter family put him there for crashing a plane on their property of something, I didn t know. Moving on to the events of the story, the tone and mood also had a similar effect as well. When the two culprits were on their way to holcomb, they stopped by many places to pick up some supplies. They pick up things like a rope and black stockings. Those two were used in the crime but the way Capote describes it just had me thinking. Perry said in a casual tone, You got any black stockings. Capote also said Next they were interested in rope. Now these two quotes make almost no sense without context but the context surrounding these two quotes is unusual. The tone used around them is very subtle as if what they were doing was not gonna end up in the murder of a family. They go around picking these murder supplies but Capote s ... Leadership is A relationship through which one person influences the behaviour or actions of other people (Smith P et al 2012), whilst Management is more about getting things done on a day to day basis and ensuring consistency (Smith P et al 2012).In simple context Managers helps in doing the right thing where as Leaders do the right things. The bureaucratic organisation becomes typical of all the modern societies. Where ‘directing refers to the selection of a particular behaviour; and ‘maintenance refers to the inclination to behave with consistency in that manner until the desired outcome is met. Motivation is therefore the force that transforms and uplifts people to be productive and perform in their jobs. Pleasant working conditions and annual recognition of the ‘Best salesman of the year and ‘Best employee of the year , also enticed productivity and motivation. Therefore extrinsically motivated behaviours are those carried out to achieve some tangible rewards or compensation. Once again my employers excelled in designing an ideal incentive system, in their effort towards employee motivation. They already offered very competitive wages, of course on the belief that the more positive the reward the more likely the employee will be highly motivated and the better the performance (Vroom, 1964). They later introduced a perpetual cash bonus scheme for the junior staff, where every year instead of bonuses being paid out, they would be retained in the company s employee fund. A bonus was typically a third of their net salary and with every completed year of service their bonuses would grow. However if the employees engaged in activities detrimental to the organisations operations, such as pilfering, they would thus loose their accumulated bonus. This proved very effective in not only retaining employees but also motivating them to work towards and within the organisational parameters at maximum productivity. It also encouraged a sense of belonging and loyalty to the organisation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Analysis Of Lucy By Jamaica Kincaid In Lucy, Jamaica Kincaid explores the disillusionment faced by the eponymous character upon immigrating to the United States. The novel s style of narration allows Lucy s thoughts and emotions to remain hidden. Despite this intense privacy, Lucy s disillusionment is clear. She had hoped that moving around the globe would solve her problems but she still struggles with homesickness and her relationship with her mother. Her move is disappointing. The erasure poem And Coldest also engages disillusionment. The poem suggests the speaker has become disillusioned by observing the world, and indicates their plan to be shut tight. The poem inspired me to consider the causes of Lucy s disillusionment, and her failure to address her own emotions. As a recent immigrant, the causes of Lucy s disillusionment are somewhat obvious. More enigmatic is her self avoidant, shut tight attitude. In this paper, I argue that Lucy s disillusionment causes her to avoid the discomfort that comes with self reflection. Lucy s experience in the United States is dissatisfactory from the moment of her arrival onwards. She describes her first night as gray black and cold and notes that no one told her January would be cold (Kincaid 3 5). This comment marks the intensity of Lucy s transition. And Coldest, too, opens with an unforgiving winter. The first lines, cold, and coldest, reflect not only the season but Lucy s experience of it she has never experienced a night so cold. • 16. Angels In America Themes Ignoring the past, allows for a cycle of oppression and intolerance, and is the action that restricts progress. When Louis asks the Rabbi if he could leave Prior for the better good of progress and the future, the Rabbi replies by stating he has no solution for Louis, because Catholics believe in Forgiveness. Jews believe in Guilt, so Louis, as Jew, will suffer by that choice (25). Although the Rabbi is simplifying both religions, guilt is based off solely regretting past doings, while forgiveness is based letting go of the previous wrongdoings for a better future. The two characters that identify as Jewish, Roy and Louis, are seen as rooting all ideas societies that exclude their identities. Louis, by idealizing past methods of progression, while Roy, completely blinded from the disease and issues arising in current culture. ARP is a simple protocol that was never designed for authentication. Any end station that has access to the layer two environment can claim any IP address if the proper security measures are not taken. ARP spoofing or ARP poisoning occurs when an attacker s computer forges its credentials to allow the host to believe that it is the intended recipient. If the attackers computer forwards all of the data that is to be sent to the intended host it is very likely that the man in the middle would go undetected. At any time the attacker can make changes to the data that is forwarded, copy and use the data, or flood the network with erroneous packets that cause data collisions and effectively bring network traffic to a halt. The process of wardriving is a new threat that has surfaced with the popularity of 802.11 style wireless connections. Poor security with these devices allows an attacker virtually unrestricted access to the data link layer and beyond. It is not very difficult to walk around various areas in a busy metropolitan area and pick up unsecured wireless signals and gain access to private networks where the owner has little idea of you presence. The third layer is the network layer. In the network layer data is routed through various physical networks while traveling to a known host. I will also identify and evaluate the consequences of classifying a behavior or individual as abnormal. Lastly, I will organize ideas in a logical structure and support my statements with reasons and research information. • 26. The Effect Of Ph Levels On Daphnia This experiment is being performed to show the effect of pH levels on daphnia by changing pH levels and measuring the heart rate. Introduction Daphnia are used to test water toxicity, they are a vital part of fresh water ecosystems. They are a food source for smaller fish and invertebrates and considered to be a consumer of algae and bacteria (Elbert, 2005). These small crustaceans range in size from 2 5mm long and are commonly referred to as water fleas. Daphnia belong to the group called Daphniidae, which is a relative of freshwater shrimp. It is easy to see the internal organs of daphnia because of a transparent taco shell like carapace. A carapace is the hard outer part of a shell or covering. A daphnia s life span can range between 1 56 days. (Elenbaas, 2013; Clare 2002). The comfortable pH level for daphnia is between 7.2 and 8.5 (Clare, 2002). In this experiment different pH levels ranging from 3 to 11 were used to test the effects on daphnia heart rate. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14. A pH ranging from 0 to 6 is acidic, a pH of 7 is neutral, and a pH higher than 7 ranging from 8 to 14 is basic. PH revolves around hydrogen ions (H+). The reason pH levels can be acidic, basic, or neutral is because acids give hydrogen ions away while bases accept hydrogen ions. (Decelles, 2002). The intention of the experiment was to measure how different pH levels affect the heart rate of daphnia. The objective of this experiment was to measure the heart rate of ... In fact, a variety of concepts exist that individuals commonly apply to their own identity. Aiding people, the ideas help explore who they truly are as well as help understand themselves better. But at the same time, they can either be helpful and relate to you with your identity, or do the complete opposite. Of the broad amount of concepts to the identification of people, there are three that exist named Gardner s Theory of Multiple Intelligences, Adler s Birth Order, as well as learning styles. Each person is unique in their own way, especially the outstanding capabilities of their mind. For example, it is common to only know of the visual learning, auditory learning, and kinesthetic learning aspects, but what people do not know is that the mind goes beyond that (Lane). Developed by Howard Gardner exists the Multiple Intelligences, which consists of nine different intelligences. Of all of the intelligences exists Verbal linguistic, Logical mathematical, Spatial visual, Bodily kinesthetic, Musical, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Naturalist, and Existential (Howard Gardner s Theory of Multiple Intelligences). According to Gardner, each person has a unique blend of capabilities and skills, which students could balance out their skills if they discovered their strengths (Lane). Personal Injury Claims Mistakes To Avoid Making When Settling A Personal Injury Before your personal injury claim goes to trial, it is typically to attempt to settle the case outside of court. While settling will save you from having to pay the costs associated with going to court, it s possible that you could get a settlement that is lower than what you deserve. Avoid making these common mistakes when settling a personal injury claim. Making Recorded Statements To An Insurance Adjuster There may be a time when settling your case that an insurance adjuster says they are unable to move your claim forward without giving them a statement on the record. You can always counter their offer with an offer of your own. Asking For Too Much Money While you do not want to make the mistake of asking for not enough money, be careful of asking for too much as well. It demonstrates that you do not understand the value of the injury claim, and may lead to being taken advantage of. Work with a lawyer to determine an appropriate amount to ask for in your initial demand letter. The amount that you request will be accepted or it will go down during negotiations, but chances are it will never go higher than what you initially asked for. Not Knowing The Extent of Your Injuries The most difficult part of a personal injury claim is estimating the costs of your injuries in the future. Your settlement amount will factor in additional medical costs related to your injury that have not yet been billed. Your recovery may take longer than expected, or you can have complications. It s important to not settle your case until you know how extensive your injuries are. It may be tempting to settle quickly, but it could cost you money down the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Virtue In Socrates And Menon In Plato s Menon, Socrates and Menon discussed about the nature of virtue and whether it can be taught. The definition of virtue varies a lot through the whole conversation. Even though Socrates and Menon failed to reach a precise definition of virtue after spending amount of time and effort, their arguments enlightened my idea that virtue consists in the ability to take the responsibility to good purpose and a willingness to explore and learn. Virtue is not some sort of knowledge that can be acquired by teaching or through predecessors, instead, being virtuous can be achieved by constantly discovering and applying true opinions. To begin with, being able to take the responsibility to good purpose consists a crucial portion of virtue. Socrates firstly asked Menon the definition of virtue before figuring out if virtue can be taught. Menon brought up several possible explanations, which, however, were rejected by Socrates. The first one is that virtue is a specific thing among different people. To illustrate, for instance, for men, virtue is to be good to friends and to harm the enemies; for women, virtue is to manage the housework and take care of their family. However, this explanation only showed that various forms of virtue exist among different people; Menon failed to clearly identify the virtue by pointing out how these examples can share in common. From my perspective, even though people in the society may have different roles, they all take responsibilities and make efforts to do their job. More importantly, what they do benefits either themselves or society and does no harm others. For instance, thieves can not be virtuous because even though they might make efforts to steal from others, they benefit themselves by impairing people s interest and disturbing the social order. Virtue does not consist in justice, instead, justice is one of forms of being virtuous. Menon later modified his definition of virtue several times; he believed that virtue is the ability to rule with justice and the ability to obtain justly. Socrates objected his answers because he used one term, which is justice, to define virtue. From my point of view, being just, however, is only one aspect of being virtuous. On the other hand, ... The North had advantages and successes that ebbed and flowed throughout the course of the war, while the South continued to make the same mistakes. A combination of Union success and Confederate failures ended the war in favor of the North and without one of them; it is hard to judge the outcome of the war. At the start of the war, the Union had a clear advantage in manpower and resources, which lasted throughout the war. When the Confederacy broke away, they consisted of eleven states compared to twenty three of the Union. Consequently, the North had a population of twenty three million while the South only had nine million, three and a half million of which were enslaved blacks. To combat this, the Confederates had to mobilize a massive proportion of its population. A whopping eighty percent of military age white men had to enlist. Chinese Politics And Comparative Communist Systems Essay A Party State exists when the party and the state are interconnected within the state s leadership, organizations, and society from the top down. Sujian Guo states in his book Chinese Politics in Comparative Communist Systems, The existence of the party state and the blending of the political and administrative functions is one of the distinctive characteristics of the communist system world wide (Guo 9). These Party State Relations occur in all communist countries. There are many key features of Party State Relations. Firstly, the members of the controlling party (China Communist Party) have a key role in political decisions. The party holds major influence in major political appointments, promotions, and dismissals of the members of the legislature, the state administration, and the judiciary. This influence allows the party to maintain control over the goals and actions of the government and to ensure that they aligned with that of the controlling party. Another key feature of the Party State relations is that the parties infiltration of the government allows them to make decisions in all of the state affairs and institutions because they are led by the party leaders. Many scientists come to Easter Island to study how and why the statues were made. These statues have an average weight of about 20 tons and an average height of 20 feet. Historians are not sure how the native people of Easter Island, also formally known as Rapa Nui, were able to drag and place these large statues in their intended locations, but the most commonly accepted theory is that the people used long pieces of ropes to drag these statues to their places. • 46. Essay on Virtue as Habit Virtue as Habit The aim of this essay is to examine the following question. Does it make a difference in moral psychology whether one adopts Aristotle s ordinary or Immanuel Kant s revisionist definition of virtue as a moral habit? Suppose it is objected, at the outset, that these definitions cannot be critically compared because their moral theories are, respectively, aposteriori and apriori, and so incommensurable. Two points of commensurability and grounds for comparative evaluation are two basic problems that any theory in moral psychology must address. They are moral ignorance (I don t know what I ought to do) and weakness (I don t do what I know I ought to do).(1) In the Nicomachean Ethics (hereafter Ethics), Aristotle ... Further, inner freedom is a rational self control which enables one to subdue one s emotions and to govern one s passions (67). Essential here is his claim that a virtue is not a free skill unless it is a free act of a moral will which in adopting a rule also declares it to be a universal law (66 67). Kant s concept of willing (i) freely and (ii) universally leads to his revisionist definition of virtue as moral habit. The key to (i) is to be found in his insistence on the cognitive certainty of the following metaphysical thesis. Even if the phenomenal self is completely determined causally, the moral self is free because it is noumenal (see the Critique of Practical Reason 28 34, 43 52, 55 59, 100 106; hereafter Practical Reason). He claims that the noumenal self is a cause imminent in experience because it is an efficient cause through Ideas (50). In short, Kant rejects the formation of moral habits through repetition in order to protect radically the freedom of the moral agent from phenomenal and scientific determinism. The key to (ii) is Kant s rejection of Aristotle s following advice. Since the cognitive results of a kind of reasoning is determined by its subject matter, it is foolish to require of moral reasoning the certainty and precision one can expect ...
