2. Finding an Article
This tutorial will show you how
to find an original research
article using ScienceDirect.

3. Sign into CougarWeb

4. Select the Library Tab

5. Click on Find Articles in the middle column

6. Select the “Science & Technology”
link

7. Select the “ScienceDirect” link

8. Search Example 1: Epigenetics and Cancer
studies. In ScienceDirect, enter your search
terms in the search box and click the search icon

9. Before looking at your results, use the limiters in the left column
to narrow your results: Select “Journal” and year. Then select the
“Limit to” button.

10. Letters
Avoid articles that say “letters” or “Review

11. Look for articles that say “Original Research
Article”

12. Preview
Click on “Show preview” to see the article

13. If the article looks suitable, click on the
PDF link

14. Before printing your article, read the methods,
discussion/results section to make sure it is
original research

15. Search Example 2: Mitochondrial DNA depletion
syndrome (MDS). In ScienceDirect, enter your search
terms in the search box and click the search icon

16. Before looking at your results, use the limiters in the left column
to narrow your results: Select “Journal” and year. Then select the
