5. Objectives/Lesson Outcomes:
Teachers will create a wikispace account.
Teachers will create a homepage with a quote, picture and title.
Teachers will create three pages on the navigation bar and link pages correctly.
Teachers will edit, add text, pictures and create multiple pages to their wikispace.
6. Materials and Resources Required: Computer lab with internet access, projector, smartboard and copies of
handouts (agenda, resources, etc.) Remember the snacks!

How are teachers using wikis? (Have some teachers using wikis in their class show their wiki and how the
kids are using the wiki.)
Brainstorm what can be done on a wiki – communicating with parents, homework, projects, etc.
Let’s make one!
Ask teachers to watch you first, and then do the step!
Model how to create a wikispace account. Guide teachers in creating a wikispace account.
Model how to create a homepage with a quote, picture and title. (Model icons on wikispace – edit button,
text, insert picture, etc.) Guide teachers in inserting a quote, picture and title.
3. Model how to edit the sidebar to insert category pages and link to pages. Guide teachers to create three
pages on the navigation bar, how to link to pages, edit, add text, pictures and create multiple pages to their
wikispace.
Teachers independently play with their wiki to accomplish this task: Add text and pictures to the three
pages they created. Circulate the room to answer questions as needed.
Have a few volunteers share with the class what they created and ideas that came to mind while creating the
wiki.
Conclude with extension activity and handouts.
8. Extension:
In order to receive completion hours, teachers must create a wikispace that includes:
a) Homepage with picture and text
b) At least three pages on the navigation bar that link to other pages
c) Every page is formatted with one or more of the following: text, colors, photos, videos, etc.
Teachers must also write a 100 word reflection on how they used the wikispace in their classroom.
The above requirements are due two weeks after the Professional Development workshop to Susan
Scheurer to receive completion of hours.
