11. PACS not only offers solutions for radiology departments, but
also for imaging requirements across hospitals, such as
cardiology, mammography or ophthalmology. Traditionally
these specific departments have managed their images
separately. PACS not only provides these required tools such
as specific cardiology functions, but also guarantees an
enterprise-wide image management, whilst working with one
web-based platform that is available anytime anywhere.
Faster delivery of diagnosis and treatment is the positive
result.
A specific PET/CT platform is furthermore offered at
dedicated workstations or via fusion, blending or 3D
reconstruction.
PACS fully supports the latest DICOM and IHE standards. A
seamless communication between administrative systems,
radiology information systems and modalities based upon
common interfaces is offered. One single point of data entry
is ensured using interfaces such as HL7 and XML.
Furthermore, the use of a DICOM modality work-list
guarantees information sharing with the relevant modalities
employing DICOM MPPS.
Civil Hospital Karachi is the first public sector hospital of
Pakistan who has fully functional PACS running and serving
lesser privilege patients
