Although this section appears first in the document, it is usually written last.
The summary should remain on a separate page and not exceed one page.
The summary should contain the following elements:
Brief identification and purpose of your organization
The purpose and anticipated end result of this proposal
The type and amount of support requested
The total anticipated budget
Other information you deem pertinent
Introduction
Ezra Project, Inc. is a nonprofit organization whose primary focus is education.
The concept to develop the organization started in 2005, while as a seminary student the research for my then studies cultivated the realities of havoc that lack of education creates in the lives of individuals, their communities, and ultimately the nation.
Prompted by that notion, investigative research revealed that the problem seemed to lie in the lack of qualitative and quantitative education and teaching available in distressed neighborhoods. As a result of the data findings Atlanta, GA was chosen as a field of interest; in 2008 the organizational structure began.
To accommodate what we see as the root problem Ezra Project, Inc. [EP] endeared the mission statement “a commitment to improve the quality of teaching and learning experienced at an individual level.quot;
EP is an official partner of Atlanta Public School (APS). Our current target area of service is Brown Middle School, a 600 plus student-base middle school, that is located in the west end quadrant of Atlanta. Program objectives are met through our Reality: 101 program, a leadership mentoring program for 6th - 8th grade boys, whose focus is on education through character development.
The 2009 - 2010 school years were our pilot. Phenomenal success was obtained. Metric indicators of accomplishment were encouraging, yet at the same time disheartening. It became quickly evident that the program design and scope were insufficient to accommodate the community need in any quantitative way. In answer to the quantitative and qualitative abundant need, EP has purposed that organizational rebranding and program change be sincerely considered.
At present program students are twenty - with an immediate opportunity for one hundred or more. Through trained volunteers, those in the Reality: 101 program are instructed in the area of character building through the KYD Publishing Company character program “How to Manage Your Parents (without manipulation) H2MyP ( HYPERLINK quot;
http://kyd.publishpath.com/quot;
kyd.publishpathcom) Opportunities for learning application are established through the implementation of the Expeditionary Learning model (EL) (elschools.org), which centers on the concept that project-based learning activities place a rewarding “value” on education.
Our vision is to “provide structured academic and social guidance to youth at-risk of non-exposure to such critically important components of life.” In other words, meeting youth at their point of need, in a structured environment where leaders produce a culture conducive to critical-thinking and mutual respect among students and teachers; an atmosphere that places “value” on education.
Needs/Problems
Identify the needs or problems to be addressed. Include the target population and any statistical information that you may have. Ideas for information to include here are:
According to a Schott Foundation 2005-2006 report, Georgia ranked 42nd in graduating students in distressed neighborhood, regardless of race. The LocalSchooldirectory.com reports that Brown Middle School ranks 365th out of 504 middles schools in Georgia, with a 50.5 % dropout rate.
Currently the Brown Middle school has five high-profile, big names in the community organizations, as well as a multitude of smaller organizations partnering to make the necessary impact change, yet the data remains the same.
Impact of the school problem as it relates to the target population, which is the community as a whole, is in large part replicable, maintaining an undereducated and, as a result, distressed community.
The overarching problem runs beyond geographics, the level of an individual’s education (or lack thereof) is carried with them wherever they go.
Goals/Objectives
State the desired goals and objectives to address the needs/problems stated above. Also include key benefits of reaching goals/objectives.
Our first objective is through data; EP aims to implement a vision that will have quantitative and qualitative impact in the lives of the students of our service district by systematically identifying root problems, and developing infrastructure to effectively address the recognized issues.
Simultaneously, through community marketing campaigns, outreach and organizational partnership, create greater community awareness and support.
Through organizations such as Teach for America, the Expeditionary Learning School team and Georgia Charter Schools Association - as well as local educators - to incorporate a group of innovative thinkers whose “passion” is education, that understand that education is the means, not the end of creating a culture that nurtures academic and social growth.
Ultimately, in a place where children spend the most time, our aim is to create an atmosphere where learning is expected; a higher academic and social standard is produced, in conjunction with an atmosphere that says “yes you can.” Teaching people to have a “growth mind-set,” which encourages a focus on effort rather than on intelligence or talent, produces high achievers in school and in life.
Procedures/Scope of Work
Provide detailed information about proposed procedures, if available, and the scope of work. Include information on activities such as recruiting, training, testing, and actual work required.
Timetable
Provide detailed information on the expected timetable for the project.
