0 Trolley with
Top shelf
Sterile dressing pack containing;
dressing forceps
cotton and gauze swabs
towels
2 pairs of dissecting forceps
kidney dish
Hand towel
Sterile gloves
Sterile cheatle forceps
galipot

5. Bottom shelf
Bandages, disposable gloves
Pair of scissors
Adhesive tape
Topical drugs if required
Antiseptic solution as ordered
Kidney dish for contaminated instruments
Receiver for used towels
Receiver for used swabs

6. Additional equipment
Drum with sterile swabs and gauze
Mackintosh
Drape
Stitch removal pack

7. procedure
Patient preparation
0 Explain the procedure to the patient to gain
cooperation and consent
0 Screen bed and close nearby windows for privacy
0 Assist the patient to lie in the most appropriate and
comfortable position considering the site of the
wound and condition of the patient.
0 Expose only the area to be dressed for privacy and
diginity.

8. Equipment preparation
0 Clean trolley with antiseptic
0 Assemble all equipment
0 Wheel the trolley to patients bed side.

9. method
0 Wash hands with soap and running water for 10-30
seconds
0 Put on gloves to prevent infections
0 Loosen and remove outer dressing and discard in
pedal bin in readiness for dressing
0 Scrub hands vigorously with soap for at least five
minutes
0 Dry hands with a sterile towel

0 Put on sterile gloves
0 Ask an assistant to open sterile pack with cheatle
forceps
0 Arrange the sterile equipment appropriately
0 Ask assistant to pour antiseptic solution in galipot
0 Remove inner dressing using sterile dissecting forceps

11. Method ct..
0 Discard the forceps in a kidney dish or bottom shelf
0 Place sterile towel appropriately around area to be
cleaned
0 Use dressing forceps and swabs dipped in antiseptic
solution to clean the wound
0 Swab the wound in strokes from the inside out using
each swab once and discard
0 If infected clean from clean area to dirty area

12. Method ct..
0 Repeat until the wound is clean
0 Remove any loose dead tissue
0 Dry the wound with gauze swab
0 Apply sterile dressing with forceps
0 Discard the forceps into kidney dish on bottom shelf
0 Secure dressing with strapping or bandage
0 Thank and leave the patient comfortably

13. NOTE
0 Squeeze out all pus from the wound
0 If a drain is present, clean it after the incision
0 Remove stitches after cleaning the wound
0 Remove or shorten the drain after cleaning the drain
site
0 Dress patients with clean wounds first

14. After the procedure
0 Remove the screens and open the windows
0 Decontaminate, remove and discard gloves and wash
hands
0 Wheel trolley to treatment room
0 Put on surgical gloves
0 Decontaminate instruments
0 Disinfect and clean trolley and leave it at its place
0 Take towels to dirty linen container
0 Decontaminate gloved hands, remove gloves and wash
hands
