What Is The Hewlett Packard Spying Technique Known As...
Introduction
This paper will evaluate the business case study of the Hewlett–Packard scandal of 2006 which dealt
with the spying technique known as pretexting. A description of the events that led up to the scandal
and an explanation of how long the spying went undetected is included along with an evaluation of
the results of the punishment incurred by the perpetrators and whether the charges fit the crime.
Additionally, a discussion on how this ethical breach affected Hewlett–Packard's internal and
external stakeholders over the following years. This paper will also identify ethical violations that
are committed by individuals on a personal level in business organizations.
Brief History of Hewlett–Packard
Hewlett–Packard (HP) was founded by William Hewlett and David Packard in a small garage in
Palo Alto, California in 1939 and grew into a successful company that provided leading
technological innovations. HP grew into a global, high–tech company specializing in developing
and manufacturing information technology (IT) including personal computers, industry servers,
storage devices, networking products, imaging and printing devices, and software. According to
(Packard, 2006), When HP went public in 1957, Packard wrote down the management beliefs he and
Hewlett shared, including a respect for and trust in employees, an environment that fostered
creativity, and a flat management hierarchy (Packard, 2006). These ideals became known as the "HP
Way" and served as a model

Carleton Fiorina
In this up and coming election the GOP has offered Americans' quite a variety of candidates that will
flood our social media, news articles, and the streets. One such candidate is Cara Carleton Fiorina,
born Cara Carleton Sneed in September 6, 1954 and is from Austin, Texas. (Carly Fiorina Biography

businessperson and AT&T's "first female officer in the Network Systems division". (Carly Fiorina

Her responses to these issues cannot be as vague as she has been and rather offer detailed solutions.
As this candidate feels she can relate to more than fifty percent of Americas population, having been
born into a "modest, middle–class family" and a mother and father who both worked full time that
she best represents what American family's want and need. (Fiorina) Fiorina is an advocate of
growing the economy and reducing federal spending. She has repeatedly made this statement when
addressing deficit and debt, but appears to contradict herself when speaking about jobs and "blames
limited worker skills and government interference for high unemployment, and seeks to ameliorate
the problem through jobs training, deregulation on businesses, and tax rate reductions." (Carly

My Strenght and Weaknesses as a Leader
At twenty–three, Carly Fiorina had dropped out of UCLA Law School with no plans about what she
wanted to do with her future. However, almost twenty–two years later, she became president and
CEO of Hewlett–Packard Company – the first woman CEO of a Fortune 20 company. She was
given a mandate by HP's board of directors to "shake things up" and was later named the "Most
Powerful Woman in Business" by Fortune magazine. Prior to joining HP, Fiorina spent nearly
twenty years at AT&T and Lucent Technologies, where she held a number of senior leadership
positions (Cara Carleton Fiorina. (2014). In 1999, Hewlett–Packard hired Carly Fiorina, former
senior executive of Lucent Technologies, as its Chief Executive Officer. Carly brought nearly ...

She could not delegate or relate to her employees and without followers there can be no leader.
The aspects of Traits theory that are relevant to Carly Fiorina can be summarized as two styles that
were exhibited by her at HP: "Achievement Oriented"and "Ambition." Fiorina's past achievements
in business and her well known reputation for being ambitious were among the reasons she was
hired by the Board in their desire to turn the company around. For example, she faced greater
challenges than most CEOs in having to guide HP through a merger of computer maker Compaq,
the acquisition culminating in 2002. It is identified that she was over ambitious in her leadership. A
Leader wanting to grow the company is to be admired, but sometimes a company's culture and
resources place practical limits on growth, especially in the short term. Fiorina was caught in the
middle; she could not grow revenues and profits quickly enough to meet the Board's expectations.
Concerning Path–goal theory: In Fiorina's case 3 types can be identified: directive style,
participative style, and achievement–oriented style. As an example of the directive style, in early
1996, Fiorina stayed up all night with Lucent Comptroller, Jim Lusk, and other employees to make
sure the prospectus for a stock offering was perfect. Concerning participative style, Fiorina imposed
reorganization on HP but failed to adequately delegate

Of course many changes are made to processes within operating level work units. When they are
made, care is usually taken to make sure that the work leaves the area in the same format that it has
been so that it will not cause problems in the next work area that receives it. Often this means
retranscribing some of the data or maintaining double records. As these local changes accumulate, a
process becomes increasingly cumbersome and subject to breakdown.
What should we do to get the best world class work processes? Use organized common sense, the
Work Simplification approach. This means chart the process, at a level of detail that shows all of the
steps that people take to process each of the records in the process. This detailed process chart
provides a well organized and comprehensive display of the work that the people do in the process,
something that is thoroughly familiar to the employees who do this work. Then form a team of
veteran employees whose experience collectively covers the entire process. If there is technology
involved in the process that the team does not understand simply pull up another chair or two and
have people join the team whose experience covers these areas. And, they join the team as equal
members. They don't take over the project.

Mcbride's Characters In The Color Of Water By James Mcbride
In the book The Color of Water, the author, James McBride not only takes us through his own
journey, but also gives us a perspective on the life of his mother, Ruth. James' admiration for his
mom reflects throughout the story while showing the readers the growth and development her
character experienced as she went through life. Ruth McBride–Jordan endured many heartbreaking
hardships throughout her life, but nevertheless, had an innumerable amount of cheerful and zestful
moments. She grew to be a remarkable woman; however, it was a long journey before she became
that woman. Separating from her family, and leaving the South was one of the hardest choices she
ever made, yet it was best for her, in order to move on and adjust her future for the better. A main
factor in Ruth's life prosperity was her first husband, Andrew Dennis McBride, who taught her many
important things and, in a sense, changed her entire lifestyle and outlook on the world. The last large
impression that altered her life immensely in a way that led her character to mature, was the death of
her beloved "Dennis". These elements all highlight a point in this woman's life that caused a
development in her personality.
In her younger years, being a part of the Shilsky family was no easy task for Ruth. In those times,
her father, Fishel, was a heartless man with no sense of appreciation or love for his faithful and
obedient Jewish family. In fact, Fishel was so cruel to his three children that Ruth reports having

Carly Fiorina's Political Election
Carly Fiorina joined the ranks of outsider candidates to run in the 2016 election, but unlike Donald
Trump, did not brand herself as an overly populist candidate. Her ad "Take Our Country Back"
might have populist appeals, but focuses on the liberal conventions of setting a political agenda and
convincing voters that she can lead, despite being an outsider with no political experience. The spot
begins by flashing images of her opponents and their tenures in government, with voiceovers
pointing out how they have done nothing to advance the Republican platform during all these years.
This populist shaming sets up Fiorina's liberal appeal and her agenda she calls a blueprint for

Carry On By Rainbow Rowell After The Success Of Her Book
Carry On was written by Rainbow Rowell after the success of her book Fangirl –– a novel in which

that would later only be finished by some means of writing therapy. This book central theme is of

resolution. For example, Louise has to sacrifice her life to save Simon and Simon has to sacrifice his
own magical abilities in order to save the mage world. The setting of this book is Simon's school,
Watford, and the grounds around it. The whole school includes sleeping quarters for boys and girls
separate, a chapel, a football pitch (soccer in America), and a Great Lawn which is all watched over
by a very high wall and moat. The school is extremely safe but before the book takes place lots of
creatures are sent to the school by the book's main villain, the Humdrum. The Humdrum has been

tutored somewhere far away to hide. Simon refuses this offer, not wanting the school –– which he
always looked forward to attending –– to be taken away from him by the Humdrum like so many

Gender Segregation And The Glass Ceiling
The terminology of 'the glass ceiling' defines a variety of barriers that prevent qualified individuals
from advancing higher in their organization and the phrase glass ceiling is used most often in
regards to women in the workforce (Adair, 2009). In addition, the glass ceiling was a term coined by
an American newspaper, the Wall Street Journal, a couple of decades ago to describe the barriers
that prevent women from reaching the top ladder in both economic and political fields (Williams,
2006). Although it is true that many women have finally become managers after fifty years in the
job market (Driscoll & Goldberg, 1993), few have made it to the very top (Adair, 2009) in recent
years.
In this paper, it would like to examine the gender issues in employment and management and
analyze equal opportunities policies and strategies for managing diversity and work life balance.
First of all, the paper would like to examine the issues relating to women at work in terms of vertical
and horizontal gender segregation, and investigate theory to understand why and how subordination
of women exists in the workplace. Secondly, how individual women have progressed in
organizations and how they have broken through the glass ceiling will be looked. At this stage, some
successful women managers and entrepreneurs will be introduced. Finally, the policies and
strategies that governments and employers can adopt to address workplace discrimination including
equal opportunities policies,

Non Politician Oxymoron
The "Non–Politician" Oxymoron of American Political Lexicon
One of the most confusing phenomenon to anyone unfamiliar with the American political landscape
is about the "non–politician" or so–called "outsider" who is seeking a political office on the strength
of his inexperience or unfamiliarity with the political process. The public likes the idea of someone
who is an outsider to politics, who will come in and "straighten" out all the 'mess' the career
politicians have made. Most people running for an office for the first time (whether new to politics
or not) know this and are astute enough to paint themselves as "new", "fresh", 'outsider" etc.

The Republican base wants "new" blood, "outsiders," to represent them in the upcoming election

from their complicit credulity. It is indeed ironic that while they are reacting out of a sense of
betrayal, they inadvertently fall prey again to individuals who are representing themselves in less
than honest ways. I believe most politicians are a reflection of their base. So if the Republican base
wants better representation from politicians who will not lie to them, they should first learn to
change with the times and adjust their reality and expectations to the current political landscape.
That way, when someone promises them heaven and earth, or things that are unrealistic to achieve,

Kasper Rorsted Essay
Abstract
How was CEO Kasper Rorsted able to transform an underperforming consumer goods company into
a great one? What methods and techniques did he use to help motivate his employees? What is the
"winning culture" all about? Could the agenda that Rorsted put before his company be implemented
at other large multinational corporations? I will attempt in this paper to answer these questions and
more as I dig into the life of Kasper Rorsted and his transformation of Henkel.
When Kasper Rorsted joined Henkel in 2005, it was with the understanding that he would
eventually replace current CEO, Ulrich Lehner. The process was a three year journey that would
prepare Rorsted to assume the reigns of a floundering consumer goods and cosmetics company.
Rorsted was 43 years old at the time and did not have expertise in the fields of chemicals or
cosmetics. Henkel's headquarters are in Germany, but Rorsted is not German. As a matter of fact,
when Rorsted became CEO of Henkel in 2008– three years after he was hired– he became the
company's first CEO who was not born in either Germany or its neighboring country of Austria

would reemerge from this downturn a much stronger and focused corporation (Simons,

My First International Conference on Innovation and Outsourcing in Emerging Markets
Introduction
I had an opportunity to witness Infosys Technologies' (India's second largest IT sector) International
conference on the topic "Innovation and Outsourcing in Emerging Markets". Some of the speakers
were very experienced in the R&D department. The conference was headed by a panel of three
members. They were Dr. Ajay, Dr. Srinivas and Dr. Rajiv. Dr. Ajay and Dr. Rajiv were Senior
Research Analysts in R&D Planning and Operations department of Infosys. The objective of this
conference was to demonstrate and discuss the latest ideas in Service Innovations that are driving

The spokesperson said that there are two major aspects that drive innovation in an organization.
They were Emerging Market, Peer–Competition. I agree to him, but I also would like to add one
other important aspect to the list i.e. Encourage Creative Thinking within the organization. It is
because of the continuously evolving Market and consumer requirements, organizations are forced
to innovate. Creativity is exploring the capability of one's mind and to bring about new ideas which
eventually leads to an innovation. This is the case with companies like Microsoft that introduced
Windows 7 and Apple that introduced iPod. Apple and Windows encourages employees to be
creative, collects ideas, and tries to implement those ideas into innovation as and when possible.
HP Acquires Compaq Case – Competitive Considerations
As discussed in our lecture, development of new technology is impeded without sufficient and
appropriate support in intensity of competition. Fear of losing to a competitor led Hewlett–Packard

believed that HP had become sluggish and less productive over the years. She decided to merge HP
and Compaq. Both HP and Compaq suffered risks like, unable to cater to

The case study that was analyzed is, "Unauthorized Disclosure: Hewlett–Packard's secret
Surveillance of Directors and Journalists," by Anne T. Lawrence, Randal D. Harris, and Sally Baack.
The ethical issues presented through the case deal with Hewlett–Packard Company (HP). HP is a
major international company in the computer and technology market. The company describes itself
as a "technology solutions provider to consumers, business and institutions globally." Their credo is
called "HP way", which focuses on points such as trust and respect for individuals, high level of
achievement and contribution, business conduct with uncompromising integrity, objectives through
teamwork, and encouragement of flexibility and innovation (Newman). The problems faced by HP's
board of directors were a lack of accountability with HP's credo. If the "HP way" was followed by
them, these ethical issues would be avoided. It also promotes a bad example by the high–level of
management of this globally powerful organization. The ethical issues presented in HP were actions
from the board members. They ignored the values and beliefs of the company. It resulted in
disrespect amongst coworkers and even HP consumers. It broke the trust within the board of HP.
Trust is imperative to a business and part of the "HP way," the core value of the company. It is a
tremendous fault for a company in a global level such as HP. During the investigation, other ethical
issues evolved in an attempt to solve the

Lord Of The Flies Corruptal Analysis
The Lord of the Flies written by William Golding is a popular novel that deals with many themes.
The theme I will talk about is how humans and human nature can easily be corrupted by
surrounding influences and themselves. Simon is corrupted by the natural environment and the
nature of people around him. In contrast, there is Jack who was only corrupted by his obsessions.
Also, Ralph became morally corrupted after a combination of spending time with Jack's group and
being by himself. The Lord of the Flies shows that anyone can be corrupted by circumstance
especially if left alone. Simon is corrupted by uncontrollable forces like nature and the actions of the
people around him. In the beginning of The Lord of the Flies, Simon is the positive and helpful
character: "Simon found for [the litteuns] the fruit they could not reach, pulled off the choicest from
up in the foliage, passed them back down to the endless, outstretched hands" (Golding, 57). In this
quote, Simon helps out the littleuns which none of the other biguns on the island do, showing his
kindness and compassion. However, later in the novel, that kindness and compassion is eroded when
he is laughed at for his honest suggestion: "'What's the dirtiest thing there is?' .... Simon's effort fell
about him in ruins; the laughter beat him cruelly and he shrank away ... Show more content on

After Simon split from the group, he experienced the most corruption culminating with an
imaginary Lord of the Flies. Jack was the physical form of the Lord of the Flies, after his obsession
with hunting leads him to become the most corrupted on the island. After spending too much time
hunting with Jack and being by himself, Ralph started to slide down a slippery slope culminating
with a brutal assault on another survivor. In conclusion, The Lord of the Flies shows that the world
of children is not as innocent as it

The Ethics Of The Bell Corruption Scandal
In my opinion, there were several factors that lead to the Bell corruption scandal. First and foremost,
there seemed to be no checks and balances to control Robert Rizzo and other city officials.
Furthermore, they gradually eliminated any controls that were place were, eventually earning
absolute control (Goffard, 2010, para. 46–47). This behavior extended to individuals as Rizzo built a
city staff that would go along with his corruption (para. 39). However, I do think Rizzo influenced
the unethical conduct of city officials. Just as Former HP CEO Carly Fiorina (2007) points out in the
video Gauging Ethics in an Organization, leaders have to walk the walk when it comes to values.
Prince (1995) highlights this principle as well, "the leader can influence the moral conduct of others
by demonstrating the desired behavior" (p. 491). Indeed, the leader sets the tone. The city officials
experienced a similar situation as the managers of H. J. Heinz during the 1970s. Rizzo created an
unhealthy moral environment "where it does not make sense for a person to be honest, fair, loyal or
trustworthy...[where]...doing what is morally right is more difficult than usual and sometimes
requires great courage" (Ciulla, 1995, p. 493). Second, the local newspaper, The Industrial Post,
went out of business leaving a void in government transparency and accountability. Third, the lack
of citizen engagement resulting in poor turnout in elections and city council meetings made it easier

The Demonstration Of Leadership By Craig Johnson Essay
Demonstration of Leadership Craig Johnson wrote an article in November 2008 to evaluate the most
controversial tenure of Carly Fiorina, the former Chief Executive Officer of Hewlett–Packard (HP),
using the ethical leadership construct. In the article, Johnson generates several questions that relate
to leadership and management practices. The evaluation of HP's former Chief Executive Officer is
influenced by the fact that the company experienced a decline in productivity within a short period
after the CEO entered the organization. Actually, Fiorina entered a largely successful firm and
introduced significant changes within a short time duration, which had considerable impacts on the
firm's operations. The dramatic changes that were introduced within a short time culminated in the
decline of the value of the company's stock within five years and the eventual unceremonious
removal of the CEO. This paper provides a response to the article through examining how it
demonstrates leadership.
Analysis and Discussion As previously mentioned, the article by Craig Johnson examines the rise
and fall of Carly Fiorina, HP's former Chief Executive Officer who was unceremoniously removed
following the tremendous impact that her dramatic changes had on the firm's productivity and
success. At the turn of the millennium, Carleton Fiorina was the most powerful businesswoman in
the United States who rose quickly through the ranks at AT&T and Lucent Technologies (Johnson,
2008, p.188).

The Graduate and Plastics Essay example
The Graduate and Plastics
The Graduate is a 1967 film directed by Mike Nichols who won an Oscar for his direction. This hit
of the 60's focuses on the development and the maturing of the ultra–naïve college graduate
Benjamin Braddock. This movie is about "just one word...Plastics." Mr. McQuire sums up this entire
movie when he tells Ben that there is "a great future in plastics." In this film the relationships,
except the one between Ben and Elaine, are like plastic because they are not real, they are molded,
and they are artificial.
The relationship between Mr. and Mrs. Robinson is shaky at best. There is no love in their marriage;
in fact, the only reason there is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Robinson is the only one who recognizes the falsehood of the marriage. When Mr. Robinson
confronts Ben he tells him that he and his wife "are getting a divorce soon." Mr. Robinson acts as
though the affair is the only reason for the divorce, which may be true in his mind. We never know
the thoughts of Mr. Robinson he might truly love Mrs. Robinson but we can never know for certain.
Mr. Robinson, like Ben, is naïve to the world around him. He is in his own artificially created
world, a world made of plastic, created by plastic relationships.
When Ben is seduced by Mrs. Robinson he enters a world of plastic. Like plastic, this world is
capable of being shaped into the desired world of the manipulator. The manipulator in this instance
is the decadent and sardonic Mrs. Robinson. She holds the cards because she knows how to play the
game. Ben is young, naïve, and inexperienced. Mrs. Robinson spots these characteristics and
uses them to get her way. When Ben questions their actions, she insults his masculinity by claiming
this is his "first time" which leads to their first sexual encounter. Mrs. Robinson knows how to
control him so that he does take part in this affair because at the moment all she wants is him. I don't
think that Ben has any idea what he is doing; it is almost as though he has nothing better to do than
to have an affair with Mrs.

A Short Story : A Story Of The Story
It was only as Barry was slowing down to walking speed before entering the house that he realized
he didn't think about what he was going to say. That he was sorry? That everything was his fault? He
needed to say it, but it wasn't exactly going to make things any better. Looking down at the red
costume he was wearing, he felt disgusted with himself and he just couldn't help but feel the urge to
just rip the fabric on his skin. After all, he long lost the right to look like a hero; heroes don't steal
and kill people and they especially do not hurt their friends. Barry wasn't the Flash anymore, he was
an impostor. Taking a deep breath, he took off running again and phased right through the walls.
Once he was inside the small red house, Barry found himself right into the modest yellow kitchen
with a skinny woman sitting at the table placed the middle of the room. The sudden and unexpected
entrance had the woman almost jumping out of her skin and turning around on her high heels fast
enough for her long untie black hairs to whip the air. ''Amanda Carter.'' He stated as he came to a
stop. ''Flash!'' She exclaimed in surprise and relief when she finally recognized the figure standing in
front of her. Breathing out, she put her right hand right over her heart and felt the organ racing under
her palm. ''You scared the crap out of me.'' Being of average height, she was a couple of inches

Hewlett Packard : An American Multinational Information...
Hewlett–Packard was an American multinational information technology corporation established in
1939. In November, 2015 it split into two new companies, HP Inc. and Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
The former company's employees took great pride in its corporate culture known as the HP Way.
Comprising various values, objectives and practices, this widely admired management philosophy
was based on integrity, teamwork, trust in individuals, innovation and contribution to both
customers and the community. The management used to be part of the team, demonstrating its true
care for the employees. People would be reassigned rather than fired, and those who could not be
reassigned were offered to quit so that their records remained unharmed. Another common practice
was "management by objectives" (MBO) which nurtured innovative thinking and entrepreneurial
spirit by allowing employees to decide upon how their goals could be achieved best. The human
factor was fundamental. However, things changed drastically after both Bill Hewlett and Dave
Packard died in 1996 and 2001, respectively. HP found itself in an extremely competitive PC
market, with its infrastructures falling behind the changing market trends and its revenue growth
slowing down. Measures had to be taken. A new CEO, Carly Fiorina, was hired in 1999 from
outside the company, thus having no knowledge of the HP Way. When the employees were asked to
take voluntary cuts or additional vacation time to save the corporation's money,

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Gurren-Hen Essay
Congratulations! Gainax! Bravo! You may be wondering why I'm starting this review with so much

as much as I love doing negative reviews and just making fun of how a story presents itself, Tengen
toppa Gurren Lagann: Gurren–Hen, also known as Gurren Lagann is just an amazing film; only if
you decide not to take it seriously. If you decide to analyze this show thoroughly from the inside–out

The only thing that disturbed me in my opinion was the latter half of the movie, where it goes
through an enormous time skip and tries to take itself seriously, which in my opinion changed the
pacing drastically. The latter half also takes place after the death of the Spiral King and explains
what's going on in the world such as: politics, government and etc. It didn't suit the type of mentality
this show was providing and just gave me a "what happened?" type of vibe. This really dragged
down the movie until later in the film it decides to ditch the serious act and start blowing stuff up
again. In doing so they've created the most astounding climaxes in animation in my opinion. I would
really love to say that this movie was perfect from start to finish but the time skip and the show
decided to take itself seriously dragged on and was unnecessary. What I like about the characters in
Gurren Lagann were the characters how they were portrayed and developed. Though they do fill in
the standard anime tropes you see today, but what separates them from the stereotype is that they
actually have a lot of character development. Our main protagonist, Simon suits this quite well; he's
a weak, shy, and not someone who'd you typically root for to lead the fight. By the end however he's
become more mature, brave, and an overall great leader. Kamina, the epitome of manliness, plays

Hewlett Packard just like Kerzner Office Equipment faced a severe financial crisis resulting massive
job–cuts. The job–cuts had a tremendous impact on employee morale where Hewlett Packard

the human resource specialist did not establish a face–to–face interaction. Amber Briggs should
have gone to meet the assigned employees to build a network and cooperation with them. Thus,
Amber Briggs could have gained more support in the first meeting. Like Southwest Airlines,
Kerzner's new CEO Justin Tubbs wanted to build better relationship with employees. Unlike
Kerzner, Southwest even during tough external market maintained high integrity and cooperation
with employees. Amber Brigs like Southwest should adopt personal–related currencies that can help

Customer Friendly Interface Between Guest And The Hotel
The front office maintains a record of all guests staying in the house. This department also co–
ordinates all group movements & meal plans.
Thus we see that the primary objective of the front office is to receive the guest, give them a warm
welcome, assign them rooms keeping in mind their taste and preferences and be a customer friendly
interface between the hotel and the guest.
This extremely important department is one of the first points of contact the guest has with the hotel,
and leaves a lasting impression on the mind of the guest about the quality and service provided. It is
therefore, crucial for all Front Office personnel to be constantly aware of this fact and realize that, in
addition to their routine functions, they are also salesmen for their hotel and the other hotels in the
group.
INTERACTION BETWEEN GUEST AND THE HOTEL:
During the hotel stay, a guest may require certain services from and engage in various transactions

The first problem that I noticed when I read the case was the fact it mentioned that HP was under
managed. In 2001, HP had 84,400 employees while Carly Fiorina was Chief Executive Officer ¹.
This fact lets me know that there should have been various levels of management from the CEO on
down to the first level employees. In order for a company to be successful there has to be a vision
and direction should be provided to carry out that vision. As CEO, Carly Fiorina took care of being
the face of the company but neglected to provide that much needed direction internally. She could

It would appear that HP made the right decision by bringing on Mark Hurd as its new Chief
Executive Officer. He was brought in to correct a lot of the management deficiencies that Carly
Fiorina left behind. Mark Hurd brought with him a focus on execution and he began working from
the bottom up. I think that his method was needed at that time because it works well when dealing
with a vertical management structure. All levels must feel important and involved in making the
company successful. Although Mark Hurd maybe the face of the company, he is not the only person
that keeps it going. As a good leader does, he kept what worked. In this case it was keeping the
overall strategy that Carly Fiorina had in place but he provided specific visionary purposes. He had
to restructure divisions and ultimately lay off over 14,000 employees to maintain the company's
budget goals. In the long run, Mark Hurd made the difficult decisions that needed to be made to
bring the company back on track. His actions earned the trust of his employees and therefore I
would conclude that he boosted the overall morale of his employees.

During the six years Fiorina led HP, the United States suffered from a great recession and the
Dotcom Boom caused most major technology companies' stock to drop. Despite the economic crisis,
Fiorina managed to not only keep the company afloat, but doubled its revenues from forty two
billion to eighty six billion. Since the United States deficit is up to eighteen trillion dollars, electing
a conservative economist like Carly Fiorina seems to be the most practical option for recovery.
Fiorina is well versed in dealing with cost–effective issues that has given her the tools necessary to
rebuild the country's budget crisis. In addition, she worked her way up to become president of
Lucent Technologies and was named The Most Powerful Woman in American Business after leading
Lucent to become the most successful IPO in history. The answer to reform this country's economy

Case Study : Crushing The Crackberry
Case Study Crushing the CrackBerry By the summer of 2012, the company that created the
legendary BlackBerry, the "crackberry", the use of which caused loyal users to become addicted
now seemed to be on a collision course with oblivion. All signs pointed to Research in Motion,
RIM, the company who at the beginning of the new century invented a handheld device that spread
like wildfire, either being eviscerated for its parts or sold at fire sale prices. As RIM announced yet
another quarter of disappointing earnings in July 2012, its reputational fall from grace was stunning
in its quickness and severity. RIM's decline was also testimony to the importance of effective public
relations in the growth and development of a company and its products. RIM was founded in
Waterloo, Ontario, Canada by Greek Canadian Mike Lazaridis, a computer genius who at the age of
12 won a prize for reading every science book in his local library. Together with his RIM co–chief
executive Jim Balsille, Lazaridis introduced the revolutionary BlackBerry wireless mobile device in
1999, and the results were electric. Celebrities Lady Gaga, Brad Pitt, Nicki Minaj and Kim
Kardashian were pictured with their BlackBerry devices by their side. The rise of "CrackBerry
Nation" seemed unstoppable. Until the Apple iPhone entered the market. Competition from the
iPhone and later Verizon's Droid Razr along with various other "smart phone" upstarts caused RIM

Clara Schumann : A Modern Artist Named Carly Simon

Clara Schumann A modern artist named Carly Simon once said "A really strong woman accepts the
war she went through and is ennobled by her scars" (Brainyguote, 1). This is a great description of
the strong and talented Clara Schumann. Her story is full of achievements, love and tragedy and
throughout all of it she carries herself with poise and strength that really is not seen much in the
present generations. Although Clara Schumann accepted her war and came out proud and confident
in herself and her success. This talented composer was born in Leipzig on September 13, 1819 to her
parents Friedrich and Marianne Wieck. Her mother was a very talented singer and pianist and her
father, though he studied Theology in school, was also a great pianist and musical teacher. Friedrich
was a very prideful man. He pushed his wife and daughter to succeed with the zealous attempt to
receive musically inclined high stature from their work and to gain more attention towards his
teaching abilities. This Dangerous desire for fame and recognition soon led to Marianne's
resentment towards him and progressed to a divorce when Clara was only five years old (Mitchell,
1). With Clara left to be raised by her father she was introduced to music rather early on. Friedrich,
still striving for more recognition, made sure that Clara became well educated in the musical field.
However, he neglected the other lessons in life like proper English and

Relationships Between Western And Western Culture
Intertextual relationships between texts exist to influence a reader's perception and add layers of
depth to the texts' meanings resulting in a heightened experience and a more significant
comprehension of the texts' ideas. Detecting such intertextual relationships between two wildly
different texts; Walt Disney's 1994 animated musical epic, The Lion King, and Studio Gainax's 2007
animated mecha television series, Gurren Lagann, has enriched my understanding of the differences

Both the two texts follow the 'The Hero's Journey' story structure (also known as a monomyth),
featuring the distinct departure, initiation and return phases and many of the twelve steps associated,
thereby establishing an intertextual link. Both main characters embark on a journey, witness the
death of a significant role model, mature as they encounter various trials and triumph over their
enemies, transforming into adults throughout the process. The Lion King's story of Simba's rise to
succeed his father as king reflects western attitudes towards growing up and how maturing from a
child into an adult is perceived: meeting the expectations of family and society, and accepting the
responsibilities associated with adulthood. Unlike The Lion King where the film ends when the
protagonist, Simba, has matured into an adult, Gurren Lagann follows its protagonist, Simon,
throughout his entire life detailing phases of growth a person experiences. Following his story well
beyond having matured into an adult, the show proceeds beyond his first major victory and shows
his struggles against an unideal future. This continuation and expansion of the story beyond
adulthood represents the eastern cultural attitude towards growing up that suggests a person's growth
doesn't end at adulthood but

Transition Into Digital Technology And Challenges
As the world begins to change, organizations must follow suit. "Each generation brings new

the future is very important.
The third significant error that was made in all of the change stories, related to Kotter's model was
failing to communicate the vision. Kotter's model states to make sure staff members understand and
accept the vision (pg.5). Change can be a difficult task if everyone is not on board. Communication
was the biggest error in all of the change stories. It's important that change is addressed in a manner
that allows employees to be somewhat knowledgeable of what is going on. For example, Carly
Fiorina attempt to restructuring the company was great but her peers felt like she lacked

she 's loved since being in PC. Overtaken, she flings the pieces and screams, "What have I done?!!"
She bumps into Bobbie the next day, who asks if she ever truly loved Morgan. Ava replies "Yeah, I
loved him...very much. There was a time when he was the only one who saw good in me at all. Now
I suppose anyone who ever did (veiled reference to Nikolas?) is gone," and dashes off to crumble on
the elevator. Carly 's bouts of rage were everything (I can 't come up with a suitable adjective, so we
'll go with "everything"). On 10/12, Sonny got it about Julian 's hit. Before smashing a childhood
photo of Morgan, she fumed, "...A bomb blew him up. You couldn 't help yourself could you? You
had to be the one to finish Julian. And now...our beautiful little boy is dead, and you killed him!!"

  • 5. What Is The Hewlett Packard Spying Technique Known As... Introduction This paper will evaluate the business case study of the Hewlett–Packard scandal of 2006 which dealt with the spying technique known as pretexting. A description of the events that led up to the scandal and an explanation of how long the spying went undetected is included along with an evaluation of the results of the punishment incurred by the perpetrators and whether the charges fit the crime. Additionally, a discussion on how this ethical breach affected Hewlett–Packard's internal and external stakeholders over the following years. This paper will also identify ethical violations that are committed by individuals on a personal level in business organizations. Brief History of Hewlett–Packard Hewlett–Packard (HP) was founded by William Hewlett and David Packard in a small garage in Palo Alto, California in 1939 and grew into a successful company that provided leading technological innovations. HP grew into a global, high–tech company specializing in developing and manufacturing information technology (IT) including personal computers, industry servers, storage devices, networking products, imaging and printing devices, and software. According to (Packard, 2006), When HP went public in 1957, Packard wrote down the management beliefs he and Hewlett shared, including a respect for and trust in employees, an environment that fostered creativity, and a flat management hierarchy (Packard, 2006). • 9. Carleton Fiorina In this up and coming election the GOP has offered Americans' quite a variety of candidates that will flood our social media, news articles, and the streets. One such candidate is Cara Carleton Fiorina, born Cara Carleton Sneed in September 6, 1954 and is from Austin, Texas. (Carly Fiorina Biography ) She went to the University of Los Angeles, but later dropped out of law school to become a businessperson and AT&T's "first female officer in the Network Systems division". (Carly Fiorina Biography ) Additionally, she later earned a MS degree from MIT's Sloan School of Management and MBA degree from University of Maryland. What is more, while working for a world leader in technology she opted to assist Michael Hayden of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) after the 9– 11 attack and divert a major shipment to assist the United States in the race against terrorism. Furthermore, at the age of sixty–one, she has declared herself a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her responses to these issues cannot be as vague as she has been and rather offer detailed solutions. As this candidate feels she can relate to more than fifty percent of Americas population, having been born into a "modest, middle–class family" and a mother and father who both worked full time that she best represents what American family's want and need. (Fiorina) Fiorina is an advocate of growing the economy and reducing federal spending. She has repeatedly made this statement when addressing deficit and debt, but appears to contradict herself when speaking about jobs and "blames limited worker skills and government interference for high unemployment, and seeks to ameliorate the problem through jobs training, deregulation on businesses, and tax rate reductions." • 13. My Strenght and Weaknesses as a Leader At twenty–three, Carly Fiorina had dropped out of UCLA Law School with no plans about what she wanted to do with her future. However, almost twenty–two years later, she became president and CEO of Hewlett–Packard Company – the first woman CEO of a Fortune 20 company. She was given a mandate by HP's board of directors to "shake things up" and was later named the "Most Powerful Woman in Business" by Fortune magazine. Prior to joining HP, Fiorina spent nearly twenty years at AT&T and Lucent Technologies, where she held a number of senior leadership positions (Cara Carleton Fiorina. (2014). In 1999, Hewlett–Packard hired Carly Fiorina, former senior executive of Lucent Technologies, as its Chief Executive Officer. Carly brought nearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She could not delegate or relate to her employees and without followers there can be no leader. The aspects of Traits theory that are relevant to Carly Fiorina can be summarized as two styles that were exhibited by her at HP: "Achievement Oriented"and "Ambition." Fiorina's past achievements in business and her well known reputation for being ambitious were among the reasons she was hired by the Board in their desire to turn the company around. For example, she faced greater challenges than most CEOs in having to guide HP through a merger of computer maker Compaq, the acquisition culminating in 2002. It is identified that she was over ambitious in her leadership. A Leader wanting to grow the company is to be admired, but sometimes a company's culture and resources place practical limits on growth, especially in the short term. Fiorina was caught in the middle; she could not grow revenues and profits quickly enough to meet the Board's expectations. Concerning Path–goal theory: In Fiorina's case 3 types can be identified: directive style, participative style, and achievement–oriented style. As an example of the directive style, in early 1996, Fiorina stayed up all night with Lucent Comptroller, Jim Lusk, and other employees to make sure the prospectus for a stock offering was perfect. Concerning participative style, Fiorina imposed reorganization on HP but failed to adequately delegate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When they are made, care is usually taken to make sure that the work leaves the area in the same format that it has been so that it will not cause problems in the next work area that receives it. Often this means retranscribing some of the data or maintaining double records. As these local changes accumulate, a process becomes increasingly cumbersome and subject to breakdown. What should we do to get the best world class work processes? Use organized common sense, the Work Simplification approach. This means chart the process, at a level of detail that shows all of the steps that people take to process each of the records in the process. This detailed process chart provides a well organized and comprehensive display of the work that the people do in the process, something that is thoroughly familiar to the employees who do this work. Then form a team of veteran employees whose experience collectively covers the entire process. If there is technology involved in the process that the team does not understand simply pull up another chair or two and have people join the team whose experience covers these areas. And, they join the team as equal members. They don't take over the project. Q4) Walter Hewlett, who originally voted in favor of the merger as an HP director, offered a laundry list of reasons ... He's been oppressed and repressed and mocked and called a spic and turned on by his own country (Cuba) that he's just not going to take any shit anymore. He'll shoot someone just for pissing him off, which is almost admirable, or at the very least understandable. I'm not advocating violence; all I'm saying is that we all have our limits and if someone treated me the way Tony Montana had been treated his whole life – if they spit on me, and degraded me, and mocked me and doubted any power I might have, I might want to prove them wrong. Mcbride's Characters In The Color Of Water By James Mcbride In the book The Color of Water, the author, James McBride not only takes us through his own journey, but also gives us a perspective on the life of his mother, Ruth. James' admiration for his mom reflects throughout the story while showing the readers the growth and development her character experienced as she went through life. Ruth McBride–Jordan endured many heartbreaking hardships throughout her life, but nevertheless, had an innumerable amount of cheerful and zestful moments. She grew to be a remarkable woman; however, it was a long journey before she became that woman. Separating from her family, and leaving the South was one of the hardest choices she ever made, yet it was best for her, in order to move on and adjust her future for the better. A main factor in Ruth's life prosperity was her first husband, Andrew Dennis McBride, who taught her many important things and, in a sense, changed her entire lifestyle and outlook on the world. The last large impression that altered her life immensely in a way that led her character to mature, was the death of her beloved "Dennis". These elements all highlight a point in this woman's life that caused a development in her personality. In her younger years, being a part of the Shilsky family was no easy task for Ruth. In those times, her father, Fishel, was a heartless man with no sense of appreciation or love for his faithful and obedient Jewish family. Gender Segregation And The Glass Ceiling The terminology of 'the glass ceiling' defines a variety of barriers that prevent qualified individuals from advancing higher in their organization and the phrase glass ceiling is used most often in regards to women in the workforce (Adair, 2009). In addition, the glass ceiling was a term coined by an American newspaper, the Wall Street Journal, a couple of decades ago to describe the barriers that prevent women from reaching the top ladder in both economic and political fields (Williams, 2006). Although it is true that many women have finally become managers after fifty years in the job market (Driscoll & Goldberg, 1993), few have made it to the very top (Adair, 2009) in recent years. In this paper, it would like to examine the gender issues in employment and management and analyze equal opportunities policies and strategies for managing diversity and work life balance. First of all, the paper would like to examine the issues relating to women at work in terms of vertical and horizontal gender segregation, and investigate theory to understand why and how subordination of women exists in the workplace. Secondly, how individual women have progressed in organizations and how they have broken through the glass ceiling will be looked. At this stage, some successful women managers and entrepreneurs will be introduced. The public likes the idea of someone who is an outsider to politics, who will come in and "straighten" out all the 'mess' the career politicians have made. Most people running for an office for the first time (whether new to politics or not) know this and are astute enough to paint themselves as "new", "fresh", 'outsider" etc. But how do you seek an office that you know little or nothing about? I believe most politicians are a reflection of their base. So if the Republican base wants better representation from politicians who will not lie to them, they should first learn to change with the times and adjust their reality and expectations to the current political landscape. Could the agenda that Rorsted put before his company be implemented at other large multinational corporations? I will attempt in this paper to answer these questions and more as I dig into the life of Kasper Rorsted and his transformation of Henkel. When Kasper Rorsted joined Henkel in 2005, it was with the understanding that he would eventually replace current CEO, Ulrich Lehner. It is because of the continuously evolving Market and consumer requirements, organizations are forced to innovate. The company describes itself as a "technology solutions provider to consumers, business and institutions globally." Their credo is called "HP way", which focuses on points such as trust and respect for individuals, high level of achievement and contribution, business conduct with uncompromising integrity, objectives through teamwork, and encouragement of flexibility and innovation (Newman). The problems faced by HP's board of directors were a lack of accountability with HP's credo. If the "HP way" was followed by them, these ethical issues would be avoided. It also promotes a bad example by the high–level of management of this globally powerful organization. The ethical issues presented in HP were actions from the board members. They ignored the values and beliefs of the company. It resulted in disrespect amongst coworkers and even HP consumers. It broke the trust within the board of HP. • 91. Lord Of The Flies Corruptal Analysis The Lord of the Flies written by William Golding is a popular novel that deals with many themes. The theme I will talk about is how humans and human nature can easily be corrupted by surrounding influences and themselves. Simon is corrupted by the natural environment and the nature of people around him. In contrast, there is Jack who was only corrupted by his obsessions. Also, Ralph became morally corrupted after a combination of spending time with Jack's group and being by himself. The Lord of the Flies shows that anyone can be corrupted by circumstance especially if left alone. Simon is corrupted by uncontrollable forces like nature and the actions of the people around him. In the beginning of The Lord of the Flies, Simon is the positive and helpful character: "Simon found for [the litteuns] the fruit they could not reach, pulled off the choicest from up in the foliage, passed them back down to the endless, outstretched hands" (Golding, 57). In this quote, Simon helps out the littleuns which none of the other biguns on the island do, showing his kindness and compassion. However, later in the novel, that kindness and compassion is eroded when he is laughed at for his honest suggestion: "'What's the dirtiest thing there is?' .... • 95. The Ethics Of The Bell Corruption Scandal In my opinion, there were several factors that lead to the Bell corruption scandal. First and foremost, there seemed to be no checks and balances to control Robert Rizzo and other city officials. Furthermore, they gradually eliminated any controls that were place were, eventually earning absolute control (Goffard, 2010, para. 46–47). This behavior extended to individuals as Rizzo built a city staff that would go along with his corruption (para. 39). However, I do think Rizzo influenced the unethical conduct of city officials. Just as Former HP CEO Carly Fiorina (2007) points out in the video Gauging Ethics in an Organization, leaders have to walk the walk when it comes to values. Prince (1995) highlights this principle as well, "the leader can influence the moral conduct of others by demonstrating the desired behavior" (p. 491). Indeed, the leader sets the tone. The city officials experienced a similar situation as the managers of H. J. Heinz during the 1970s. Rizzo created an unhealthy moral environment "where it does not make sense for a person to be honest, fair, loyal or trustworthy...[where]...doing what is morally right is more difficult than usual and sometimes requires great courage" (Ciulla, 1995, p. 493). Second, the local newspaper, The Industrial Post, went out of business leaving a void in government transparency and accountability. The Demonstration Of Leadership By Craig Johnson Essay Demonstration of Leadership Craig Johnson wrote an article in November 2008 to evaluate the most controversial tenure of Carly Fiorina, the former Chief Executive Officer of Hewlett–Packard (HP), using the ethical leadership construct. In the article, Johnson generates several questions that relate to leadership and management practices. The evaluation of HP's former Chief Executive Officer is influenced by the fact that the company experienced a decline in productivity within a short period after the CEO entered the organization. Actually, Fiorina entered a largely successful firm and introduced significant changes within a short time duration, which had considerable impacts on the firm's operations. The dramatic changes that were introduced within a short time culminated in the decline of the value of the company's stock within five years and the eventual unceremonious removal of the CEO. This paper provides a response to the article through examining how it demonstrates leadership. Analysis and Discussion As previously mentioned, the article by Craig Johnson examines the rise and fall of Carly Fiorina, HP's former Chief Executive Officer who was unceremoniously removed following the tremendous impact that her dramatic changes had on the firm's productivity and success. At the turn of the millennium, Carleton Fiorina was the most powerful businesswoman in the United States who rose quickly through the ranks at AT&T and Lucent Technologies (Johnson, 2008, p.188). ... This hit of the 60's focuses on the development and the maturing of the ultra–naïve college graduate Benjamin Braddock. This movie is about "just one word...Plastics." Mr. McQuire sums up this entire movie when he tells Ben that there is "a great future in plastics." In this film the relationships, except the one between Ben and Elaine, are like plastic because they are not real, they are molded, and they are artificial. The relationship between Mr. and Mrs. Robinson is shaky at best. There is no love in their marriage; in fact, the only reason there is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Robinson is the only one who recognizes the falsehood of the marriage. When Mr. Robinson confronts Ben he tells him that he and his wife "are getting a divorce soon." Mr. Robinson acts as though the affair is the only reason for the divorce, which may be true in his mind. We never know the thoughts of Mr. Robinson he might truly love Mrs. Robinson but we can never know for certain. Mr. Robinson, like Ben, is naïve to the world around him. He is in his own artificially created world, a world made of plastic, created by plastic relationships. When Ben is seduced by Mrs. Robinson he enters a world of plastic. Like plastic, this world is capable of being shaped into the desired world of the manipulator. The manipulator in this instance is the decadent and sardonic Mrs. Robinson. She holds the cards because she knows how to play the game. Ben is young, naïve, and inexperienced. Mrs. Robinson spots these characteristics and uses them to get her way. When Ben questions their actions, she insults his masculinity by claiming this is his "first time" which leads to their first sexual encounter. Mrs. Robinson knows how to control him so that he does take part in this affair because at the moment all she wants is him. I don't think that Ben has any idea what he is doing; it is almost as though he has nothing better to do than to have an affair with Mrs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That he was sorry? That everything was his fault? He needed to say it, but it wasn't exactly going to make things any better. Looking down at the red costume he was wearing, he felt disgusted with himself and he just couldn't help but feel the urge to just rip the fabric on his skin. After all, he long lost the right to look like a hero; heroes don't steal and kill people and they especially do not hurt their friends. Barry wasn't the Flash anymore, he was an impostor. Taking a deep breath, he took off running again and phased right through the walls. Once he was inside the small red house, Barry found himself right into the modest yellow kitchen with a skinny woman sitting at the table placed the middle of the room. The sudden and unexpected entrance had the woman almost jumping out of her skin and turning around on her high heels fast enough for her long untie black hairs to whip the air. ''Amanda Carter.'' He stated as he came to a stop. ''Flash!'' She exclaimed in surprise and relief when she finally recognized the figure standing in front of her. Breathing out, she put her right hand right over her heart and felt the organ racing under her palm. ''You scared the crap out of me.'' • 111. Hewlett Packard : An American Multinational Information... Hewlett–Packard was an American multinational information technology corporation established in 1939. In November, 2015 it split into two new companies, HP Inc. and Hewlett Packard Enterprise. The former company's employees took great pride in its corporate culture known as the HP Way. Comprising various values, objectives and practices, this widely admired management philosophy was based on integrity, teamwork, trust in individuals, innovation and contribution to both customers and the community. The management used to be part of the team, demonstrating its true care for the employees. People would be reassigned rather than fired, and those who could not be reassigned were offered to quit so that their records remained unharmed. Another common practice was "management by objectives" (MBO) which nurtured innovative thinking and entrepreneurial spirit by allowing employees to decide upon how their goals could be achieved best. The human factor was fundamental. However, things changed drastically after both Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard died in 1996 and 2001, respectively. HP found itself in an extremely competitive PC market, with its infrastructures falling behind the changing market trends and its revenue growth slowing down. Measures had to be taken. A new CEO, Carly Fiorina, was hired in 1999 from outside the company, thus having no knowledge of the HP Way. When the employees were asked to take voluntary cuts or additional vacation time to save the corporation's money, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Maybe it's cleverly placed sarcasm just to mask the façade of this show? Well as much as I love doing negative reviews and just making fun of how a story presents itself, Tengen toppa Gurren Lagann: Gurren–Hen, also known as Gurren Lagann is just an amazing film; only if you decide not to take it seriously. If you decide to analyze this show thoroughly from the inside–out you would be somewhat disappointed. Gurren Lagann is all just mindless fun with no hidden objectives. The only thing that disturbed me in my opinion was the latter half of the movie, where it goes through an enormous time skip and tries to take itself seriously, which in my opinion changed the pacing drastically. The latter half also takes place after the death of the Spiral King and explains what's going on in the world such as: politics, government and etc. It didn't suit the type of mentality this show was providing and just gave me a "what happened?" type of vibe. This really dragged down the movie until later in the film it decides to ditch the serious act and start blowing stuff up again. In doing so they've created the most astounding climaxes in animation in my opinion. I would really love to say that this movie was perfect from start to finish but the time skip and the show decided to take itself seriously dragged on and was unnecessary. What I like about the characters in Gurren Lagann were the characters how they were portrayed and developed. Though they do fill in the standard anime tropes you see today, but what separates them from the stereotype is that they actually have a lot of character development. Our main protagonist, Simon suits this quite well; he's a weak, shy, and not someone who'd you typically root for to lead the fight. By the end however he's become more mature, brave, and an overall great leader. Kamina, the epitome of manliness, plays the role as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This department also co– ordinates all group movements & meal plans. Thus we see that the primary objective of the front office is to receive the guest, give them a warm welcome, assign them rooms keeping in mind their taste and preferences and be a customer friendly interface between the hotel and the guest. This extremely important department is one of the first points of contact the guest has with the hotel, and leaves a lasting impression on the mind of the guest about the quality and service provided. Hewlett-Packard Case Assignment Hewlett–Packard Case Assignment Iman Abdur–Rahim Prof. Brian Grizzell Principles of Management BUS302 August 19th, 2011 The first problem that I noticed when I read the case was the fact it mentioned that HP was under managed. In 2001, HP had 84,400 employees while Carly Fiorina was Chief Executive Officer ¹. This fact lets me know that there should have been various levels of management from the CEO on down to the first level employees. In order for a company to be successful there has to be a vision and direction should be provided to carry out that vision. As CEO, Carly Fiorina took care of being the face of the company but neglected to provide that much needed direction internally. She could have organized a senior leadership ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It would appear that HP made the right decision by bringing on Mark Hurd as its new Chief Executive Officer. He was brought in to correct a lot of the management deficiencies that Carly Fiorina left behind. Mark Hurd brought with him a focus on execution and he began working from the bottom up. I think that his method was needed at that time because it works well when dealing with a vertical management structure. All levels must feel important and involved in making the company successful. Although Mark Hurd maybe the face of the company, he is not the only person that keeps it going. As a good leader does, he kept what worked. In this case it was keeping the overall strategy that Carly Fiorina had in place but he provided specific visionary purposes. He had to restructure divisions and ultimately lay off over 14,000 employees to maintain the company's budget goals. In the long run, Mark Hurd made the difficult decisions that needed to be made to bring the company back on track. His actions earned the trust of his employees and therefore I would conclude that he boosted the overall morale of his employees. References 1. Boxer, Barbara. (2010). Since the United States deficit is up to eighteen trillion dollars, electing a conservative economist like Carly Fiorina seems to be the most practical option for recovery. Case Study : Crushing The Crackberry Case Study Crushing the CrackBerry By the summer of 2012, the company that created the legendary BlackBerry, the "crackberry", the use of which caused loyal users to become addicted now seemed to be on a collision course with oblivion. All signs pointed to Research in Motion, RIM, the company who at the beginning of the new century invented a handheld device that spread like wildfire, either being eviscerated for its parts or sold at fire sale prices. As RIM announced yet another quarter of disappointing earnings in July 2012, its reputational fall from grace was stunning in its quickness and severity. RIM's decline was also testimony to the importance of effective public relations in the growth and development of a company and its products. RIM was founded in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada by Greek Canadian Mike Lazaridis, a computer genius who at the age of 12 won a prize for reading every science book in his local library. Together with his RIM co–chief executive Jim Balsille, Lazaridis introduced the revolutionary BlackBerry wireless mobile device in 1999, and the results were electric. Celebrities Lady Gaga, Brad Pitt, Nicki Minaj and Kim Kardashian were pictured with their BlackBerry devices by their side. The rise of "CrackBerry Nation" seemed unstoppable. Until the Apple iPhone entered the market. Competition from the iPhone and later Verizon's Droid Razr along with various other "smart phone" upstarts caused RIM to lose its business focus and its public relations edge. ... Clara Schumann : A Modern Artist Named Carly Simon Lyndsay Riley Music 101 Professor Fewtrell 5 August 2015 Clara Schumann A modern artist named Carly Simon once said "A really strong woman accepts the war she went through and is ennobled by her scars" (Brainyguote, 1). This is a great description of the strong and talented Clara Schumann. Her story is full of achievements, love and tragedy and throughout all of it she carries herself with poise and strength that really is not seen much in the present generations. Although Clara Schumann accepted her war and came out proud and confident in herself and her success. This talented composer was born in Leipzig on September 13, 1819 to her parents Friedrich and Marianne Wieck. Her mother was a very talented singer and pianist and her father, though he studied Theology in school, was also a great pianist and musical teacher. Friedrich was a very prideful man. He pushed his wife and daughter to succeed with the zealous attempt to receive musically inclined high stature from their work and to gain more attention towards his teaching abilities. This Dangerous desire for fame and recognition soon led to Marianne's resentment towards him and progressed to a divorce when Clara was only five years old (Mitchell, 1). With Clara left to be raised by her father she was introduced to music rather early on. Friedrich, still striving for more recognition, made sure that Clara became well educated in the musical field. Relationships Between Western And Western Culture Intertextual relationships between texts exist to influence a reader's perception and add layers of depth to the texts' meanings resulting in a heightened experience and a more significant comprehension of the texts' ideas. Detecting such intertextual relationships between two wildly different texts; Walt Disney's 1994 animated musical epic, The Lion King, and Studio Gainax's 2007 animated mecha television series, Gurren Lagann, has enriched my understanding of the differences between the texts' representation on the cultural issues of the bildungsroman genre (coming of age story). Both the two texts follow the 'The Hero's Journey' story structure (also known as a monomyth), featuring the distinct departure, initiation and return phases and many of the twelve steps associated, thereby establishing an intertextual link. Both main characters embark on a journey, witness the death of a significant role model, mature as they encounter various trials and triumph over their enemies, transforming into adults throughout the process. The Lion King's story of Simba's rise to succeed his father as king reflects western attitudes towards growing up and how maturing from a child into an adult is perceived: meeting the expectations of family and society, and accepting the responsibilities associated with adulthood. Unlike The Lion King where the film ends when the protagonist, Simba, has matured into an adult, Gurren Lagann follows its protagonist, Simon, throughout his entire life detailing phases of growth a person experiences. Following his story well beyond having matured into an adult, the show proceeds beyond his first major victory and shows his struggles against an unideal future. This continuation and expansion of the story beyond adulthood represents the eastern cultural attitude towards growing up that suggests a person's growth doesn't end at adulthood but ... Morgan was making strides, and the chain of events that led to him losing Kiki and his life wouldn 't have happened if it weren 't for Ava stealing his meds. It was heartbreaking to hear how confused and disenchanted he was in his recovery journals (11/4), trying to do everything by the book and still failing. I had my first real occurrences of compassion for Kiki, who expressed to both Franco (10/3) and Dillon (10/7) that she was losing sight of herself by constantly being on emotional eggshells with Morgan, tending to his needs while ignoring her own. Ava 's tortured breakdown on 10/11 after hearing Morgan died was the stuff of soap dreams and West 's innate passion was the perfect ingredient for it. Mascara covered tears fell down her face, as guilt–ridden flashes of her removing the pills seesawed with memories of their tawdry love affair, causing her to obliviously drop her martini glass. She sobs while picking up the shards, realizing she 's involved in killing the only man she 's loved since being in PC. Overtaken, she flings the pieces and screams, "What have I done?!!" She bumps into Bobbie the next day, who asks if she ever truly loved Morgan. Ava replies "Yeah, I loved him...very much. There was a time when he was the only one who saw good in me at all. Now I suppose anyone who ever did (veiled reference to Nikolas?) is gone," and dashes off to crumble on the elevator. Carly 's bouts of rage were everything (I can 't come up with a suitable adjective, so we 'll go with "everything"). On 10/12, Sonny got it about Julian 's hit. Before smashing a childhood photo of Morgan, she fumed, "...A bomb blew him up. You couldn 't help yourself could you? You had to be the one to finish Julian.
