This document provides an update on Ja Sakai, the community focused on localizing and promoting adoption of the Sakai learning management system in Japan. It discusses the mission and members of Ja Sakai, upcoming conferences, and large-scale deployments of Sakai at several Japanese universities. It also outlines contributions to internationalization efforts and localization using the Benten translation system. Presentations at the upcoming 5th Ja Sakai Conference focus on portfolio and video systems built on Sakai.

• Promotion of Sakai CLE as NUCT

7. Kansai University
• After a year-long parallel operation of CEAS 2
series System, the CEAS/Sakai Joint System
started in April, 2011 on a campus-wide basis.
(CEAS: A CMS focusing on supporting the educational activities involved in the
cycle of class teaching and self-learning (preparation and review work))
• Sakai tools (i. e., Forums, SCORM Player,
Resources and Wiki) are combined with CEAS 3.0
taking over the Teaching-Support User Interface of
the CEAS.
• In AY 2012, Sakai CLE is
scheduled to be upgraded to
Version 2.9 (from Version 2.5.6).

8. Hosei University
• Production Run started on Apr. 2011 as the
largest scaled Sakai CLE in Japan – 30,000
students, 8,800 instructors, 12,500 courses.
• In 2012, additional projects are planned.
