EVALUATION Q5 How did you attract / address your audience?
TARGET AUDIENCE RESEARCH: The first thing that I did to address my audience was to carry out research on my target audience. Here I asked a series of questions through the use of a questionnaire. My main aim of this was to see why people watched films, what they knew about the social realism genre, and whether they thought that my initial idea was interesting. SYNOPSIS: After finding out from my questionnaire that my target audience thought my initial idea would be interesting to watch, I developed a synopsis of my film that I believed would attract my audience. LINK: http://willgoslingmedia.blogspot.com/p/synopsis-2.html
CHARACTER BIOS: Another thing that I did to attract my audience was to create characters that my audience could believe as real people, adding to the verisimilitude of the film. MAIN CHARACTER: To attract my target audience of 16 – 25 year olds, I used a main character of a student, whom I left nameless as “Boy X”. Keeping him nameless made him a generalised figure of the social group.   By doing this, I thought that my audience would be able to sympathise and possible empathise with the character.
FIRST DRAFT OF FILM: After filming, I put together a first draft of my film that I believed would attract my audience. However, at this point, the construction was mainly my personal opinion of what looked effective. Although, it was influenced by my storyboard.
POST PRODUCTION RESEARCH: After producing the first draft of my film, I carried out post-production audience research. I did this through a questionnaire like the preliminary audience research.  This research involved five participants, who I asked to watch my film and then answer a series of questions about what they had seen.  From the answers, I analysed them to see the general opinions, and therefore what improvements I needed to make in order to meet their expectations and keep hold of their interest. FINAL DRAFT: After making the necessary changes to my film introduction, I finally had an edit that I believe met the expectation of the audience, which were highlighted through the audience research, but also was still interesting to watch, looked professional, and felt like an introduction to a social realism film.
