2. As we light one end of the paper, the
smoke created on one side will go into
the side of the paper inside the bottle
and fall looking like a waterfall.
4. 1. Make a hole in the top of the bottle
2. Roll the piece of paper to make it look
like a long pipe.
3. Put the rolled piece of paper into the
hole that you just made in the bottle.
Leaving half of the paper hanging.
4. Light the piece of paper. And look at
the inside of the bottle.
5. Now you should be able to see the fire
fall.
5. Even though the fall wasn´t very big, you
can see that your hypothesis was
correct. As the smoke started coming
out in one of the side you can see that
the fall came out on the side that wasn´t
lighted. This is because there is no air
inside the bottle so it comes down as a
fall.
6. Ingredients:
Potassium nitrate - 4 parts
Charcoal - 5 parts
Sulfur - 10 parts
Wood dust - 3 parts
One way to make smoke is to craft a smoke
bomb, but you can make a smoke powder, too. Here
are some formulations for colored smokes. The parts
or percents are by weight. Basically what you do is
measure the ingredients, sift them together to mix
them, and ignite the powder to produce smoke. Up
to 2% sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) may be
added to slow the combustion/cool the reaction, if
necessary.
7. The flame test is used to visually
determine the identity of an unknown
metal or metalloid ion based on the
characteristic color the salt turns the
flame of a bunsen burner. The heat of
the flame excites the metals
ions, causing them to emit visible light.
The characteristic emission spectra can
be used to differentiate between some
elements.
8. In general, there is no specific proportion of
colorant to mix with the water or alcohol.
Add as much powdered colorant as will
dissolve in the liquid (roughly a half pound
colorant to a gallon of water). Do not
attempt to mix colors together - you will
probably end up with a normal yellow
flame. If you want multicolored fire, try
adding several pinecones, each treated
with a single colorant, or scatter a mixture
of dried colored sawdusts across the fire.
