The document discusses researching magazine cover images. Four sample images help the author visualize different shot types and facial expressions for their cover. The images provide ideas for the background, pose, and medium or long shot types. A similar artist's magazine cover maintains consistency with their album cover through a simple background, body language, and facial expressions representing their style. Important information like the artist name and genre are clear. Consistency between the magazine and album covers helps audiences recognize the product and connect with the artist's personality.

Magazine cover research
1. Magazine cover research
These images allow me to image and visualise how my magazine cover will appear. The first image being on a hill (on grass -
nature) and being an extreme long shot, gives me an idea of how the background will appear, for example including the sky
and ground as well as objects in the distance. The second image gives me an idea of what pose or body posture will be most
appropriate to use, this body posture running and looking back with hair flowing is similar to my initial ideas of how I want to
represent the artist. It also gives me a second option of shot this is a medium shot, I am considering a medium long shot.
Therefore the two first images give me an idea of how different shots will appear. The third image gives me an idea of what
facial expression my artist should have and how a medium close up shot looking back will look. The fourth image allows me to
be more experimental with my ideas as I can use a different body posture, such as the artist looking up as though she is
absorbing her surroundings. These four images all help me identify positive aspects of my ideas and recognise what will be
more appropriate and effective for me to use in my magazine cover.
Similar artist magazine cover:
This magazine cover uses a similar background to his albums front cover, through this consistency is
maintained. The background is simple, this is a convention of the indie genre. Artist expression is
represented through his body language and facial expressions. Also the mise en scene- clothing
represents his style and personality, the arti st name is shown this is effective as the audience can
recognise the artist, and the genre as it is simple. Consistency maintained through location, clothing,
facial expressions, side view of artist and body language. The masthead is at the top left corner and the
typography stands out the most, this is important in order for the audience to notice the cover. In
addition, all the information is at the bottom, the important points are in bold, this gives the audience
instant information without needing to read all of the other information.
These two magazine covers have the same or a similar main image to their albums front
cover, this is effective as the audience will be able to recognise the album (product) when
they view or go to purchase as they already know what it looks like, as a result can generate
more revenue/ sales. Also the front cover being used again is significant as it represents the
album and the artist personality, for example Ed Sheeran being shy is shown by him having his
head down, no eye contact. This allows the audience to connect and understand the artist on
a personal level. The typography is the same as their albums, this is consistent, important
information is represented by being in a bold font or different colour, in order for the
audience to notice.
Consistency between magazine and album cover maintained by: clothing, setting,
typography and body posture.
