to students at the primary level, as such
Sexual Health is of utmost importance.

3. Sexuality is a normal, healthy,
natural part of who we are throughout
every stage our lives. However, if you are
having sex, or are thinking about having
sex, you need to know how to protect
yourself from sexually transmitted
infections.

4. Sexual health is a state of physical, mental and
social well-being in relation to sexuality. It
requires a positive and respectful approach to
sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the
possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual
experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and
violence.

5. Sexual Health is important because:
 Protection for STIs
 Healthy lifestyles
 Safe relationships
 Prevents unplanned pregnancy

7. The Social Aspect of sexuality
takes into consideration how
society views and accepts
sexuality and things that can be
done to enhance sexuality.

8. Maintaining good hygiene – this
includes washing hands, avoiding
things contaminated with harmful
bacteria and taking care of your body.
Getting enough rest – getting enough
rest involves sleeping, avoid extra
strenuous activities and giving your
body enough time to regain energy.

9. Physical aspect of sexual health refers
to the level of functional or
metabolic efficiency of a living
organism as it relates to sexual
aptitudes. In humans, it is the
general condition of a person's mind
and body, usually meaning to be free
from illness, injury or pain

10. Physical aspect of maintaining sexual
health includes:
Eating healthy – this involves eating
balanced meals, taking nutritional
supplements and drinking enough
fluids.
Exercise – this allows the body to be
physically fit to facilitate strenuous
activities.

11. The Mental aspect of
maintaining sexual health
refers to how we think,
feel and act as we cope in
sexual simulations and
relationships. It also helps
determine how we handle
stress, relate to our
partner(s) and make
choices.

12. Mental aspect of maintaining sexual health includes:
Counseling – this involves seeking professional help
with relationship issues.
This also deals with a range of issues including
depression, anxiety, stress and confidence building.
Counseling offers you the opportunity to talk in
confidence to the person(s) in your relationship.
Self esteem – this can lead to better health and
social behavior, and that poor self-esteem is
associated with a broad range of mental disorders
and social problems, both internalizing problems
(e.g. depression, suicidal tendencies, eating
disorders and anxiety) and externalizing problems
(e.g. violence and substance abuse).
Take a break is good for your mental health. It
could be a half-hour lunch break at work or a
weekend exploring somewhere new. A few
minutes can be enough to de-stress you.
