in education allows quick
access for information
needed for different field or
subject
 Instruction should be student-centered
The students would
gather information on
their own, under the
guidance of their
teacher.
They engage in many
different types of
hands-on activities, as
well as demonstrates
learning in many
different ways.
Education should be collaborative
Students should be encouraged to work together to discover
information , piece it together, and construct meaning. Students should
learn how to recognize the different strengths and talents each person
can bring to a project, and change roles depending on those attributes.
Learning should have context
 Students will be much
more motivated to learn
something that they can
see the value in.
 The students are
learning very valuable
research skills, which
they can transplant at
high levels of education,
at universities and
beyond.
The Role of Technology in 21st Century
Learning
Technology allows for 24/7
access to information
Constant social interaction
Easily created and shared
digital content
No longer does
learning have to be
0ne-size-fits-all or
confined to the
classroom.
It is important for our
students to learn in a global
classroom, acknowledging
that the classroom extends
beyond the physical walls.
Three broad areas in using
Technology comprehensively:
1.To develop proficiency in 21st Century Skills
To succeed in postsecondary institutions and workplaces,
which increasingly value people who can use their
knowledge to communicate, collaborate, analyze, create ,
innovative and solve problems.
2. To support innovative teaching and learning
To offer more rigorous , relevant and engaging opportunities
for students to learn- and to apply their knowledge and skills
in meaningful ways.
3.To create robust education support systems
To be effective in schools and classrooms,
teachers and administrators need training, tools
and proficiency in 21st century skills themselves.
IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS OF
EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY
1.Improvement of teaching
By developing the theories
of teaching, it helps in
improving the quality of
education.
2. Analysis of the teaching-
learning process
It tries to establish better
relationship between
teaching and learning.
3.Improvement of Learning
- It the help of various
empirically established
generalizations from psychology,
sociology, physical sciences,
engineering etc.
4.Enhancing Goals of Education
Educational Technology helps in finding
out the right objectives and enhancing
the right objectives in the light of the
changed circumstances and changed
environment.
5.Training to Teachers
Right type of training to the teachers
is the need of the hour. Educational
Technology can render its valuable
help in the training of teachers also.
6.Development of Curriculum
Curriculum is the total teaching-
learning environment, which has
to be modified and remodeled in
the light of latest thought.
7.Development of Teaching- Learning
Materials
They have to be in accordance with the
environment of the learners. In this age
of science and technology, the materials
of teaching cannot be unscientific

It has to be the right one, which
should be according to the
materials and is able to bring
about effective teaching learning.

They need to be used according
to the times. The software aids,

Roles and Functions of Educational Technology in 21st Century Education

  • 2. Educational Technology plays a very important role for student learning specially on these generation. The application of technology in education allows quick access for information needed for different field or subject

  • 4.  Instruction should be student-centered The students would gather information on their own, under the guidance of their teacher. They engage in many different types of hands-on activities, as well as demonstrates learning in many different ways.
  • 5. Education should be collaborative Students should be encouraged to work together to discover information , piece it together, and construct meaning. Students should learn how to recognize the different strengths and talents each person can bring to a project, and change roles depending on those attributes.
  • 6. Learning should have context  Students will be much more motivated to learn something that they can see the value in.  The students are learning very valuable research skills, which they can transplant at high levels of education, at universities and beyond.
  • 7. The Role of Technology in 21st Century Learning Technology allows for 24/7 access to information Constant social interaction Easily created and shared digital content
  • 8. No longer does learning have to be 0ne-size-fits-all or confined to the classroom. It is important for our students to learn in a global classroom, acknowledging that the classroom extends beyond the physical walls.
  • 9. Three broad areas in using Technology comprehensively:
  • 10. 1.To develop proficiency in 21st Century Skills To succeed in postsecondary institutions and workplaces, which increasingly value people who can use their knowledge to communicate, collaborate, analyze, create , innovative and solve problems.
  • 11. 2. To support innovative teaching and learning To offer more rigorous , relevant and engaging opportunities for students to learn- and to apply their knowledge and skills in meaningful ways.
  • 12. 3.To create robust education support systems To be effective in schools and classrooms, teachers and administrators need training, tools and proficiency in 21st century skills themselves.
  • 14. 1.Improvement of teaching By developing the theories of teaching, it helps in improving the quality of education. 2. Analysis of the teaching- learning process It tries to establish better relationship between teaching and learning.
  • 15. 3.Improvement of Learning - It the help of various empirically established generalizations from psychology, sociology, physical sciences, engineering etc. 4.Enhancing Goals of Education Educational Technology helps in finding out the right objectives and enhancing the right objectives in the light of the changed circumstances and changed environment.
  • 16. 5.Training to Teachers Right type of training to the teachers is the need of the hour. Educational Technology can render its valuable help in the training of teachers also. 6.Development of Curriculum Curriculum is the total teaching- learning environment, which has to be modified and remodeled in the light of latest thought.
  • 17. 7.Development of Teaching- Learning Materials They have to be in accordance with the environment of the learners. In this age of science and technology, the materials of teaching cannot be unscientific 8. Teaching-Learning Strategies It has to be the right one, which should be according to the materials and is able to bring about effective teaching learning.
  • 18. 9. Development of Audio-Visual Aids They need to be used according to the times. The software aids, hardware aids, computer and other equipment 10. Help in overall Improvement -It helps in locating the problems in the different areas of education. It also helps in remedying the draw-backs.I t can also revolutionize the whole process of teaching-learning.
