2. There are five steps which are used in the hierarchy of needs this
is presented in a 5 stage model this model includes.
1.Biological and Psychological needs-
air,food,drink,shelter,warmth,sex,sleep etc.
2.Safety needs- protection from
elements, security,order,law,limits,stability,etc.
3.Belongingness and Love needs – work group , family, affection
, relationships, etc.
4.Esteem needs – self esteem , achievement , mastery
, independence , status, dominance , prestige, managerial
responsibility , etc.
5. Self –Actualisation needs- realising personal potential , self –
fulfilment , seeking personal growth and peak experiences.
3.
4. The first stage is used to asses people ; as Maslow was
very interested in the characteristics of people who
considered to have achieved their potential as persons.
Self Actualisation
Refers to the need for personal growth
That is present throughout a persons life.
5. All humans have a need to feel respected ; this includes the
need to have self respect and self esteem. . People with
low self-esteem often need respect from others; they may
feel the need to seek fame or glory. However, fame or glory
will not help the person to build their self-esteem until they
accept who they are internally.
6. Maslow's hierarchy –– can impact the individual's ability to form and maintain
emotionally significant relationships in general, such as:
Friendship
Intimacy
Family
The third stage of human needs is interpersonal this involves the feelings
Of belongingness. According to Maslow humans need to feel a sense of belonging
and acceptance among their social group regardless whether or not these groups
are large or small. For example, some large social groups may include clubs, co-
workers, religious groups, professional organizations, sports teams, and gangs.
Some examples of small social connections include family members, intimate
partners, mentors, colleagues, and confidants. Humans need to love and be loved
– both sexually and non-sexually – by others.
7. Safety and Security needs include:
Personal security
Financial security
Health and well-being
Safety net against accidents/illness and their adverse
impacts.
8. The Psychological needs are that of what humans
need in terms of survival if these requirements are
not met the body will ultimately fail.
9. When applying Maslow’s hierarchy to analysing magazines it’s the idea of thinking outside
the box ; thinking about how the reader will feel when reading your magazine and whether
or not the context suits the genre which the reader likes and with this how and why the
reader feels the way they do.
Within a magazine the Psychological needs may be that of the idea that humans needs
sex and clothing to survive , many magazine use sex and clothing to help sell their
magazine ‘sex sells’ and money runs the world the latest fashion Is always a hit with
readers who are fascinated with a specific era such as the 70’s and 90’s music as they will
tend to find interest in the clothing which was worn in that era as well as the music .
Safety needs could be used in aspects of the magazine as such as adverts that are
advertising health.
