Fortner Corporation used the allowance method to account for uncollectible accounts receivable from inception through December 31, 2014. In 2014, credit sales totaled $9 million and bad debts of $90,000 were written off while recoveries were $15,000. In November 2014, Fortner implemented a new computer system that produced an aging of accounts receivable as of December 31, 2014 showing estimated uncollectible percentages ranging from 2% to 80% depending on the age of the receivable. Based on this analysis, an additional $60,000 in receivables were written off and the ending allowance was adjusted.
