9. Suppression Suppressed by Pope Clement XIV on July 21, 1773. Affected all countries except Russia and Prussia. Catherine the Great, ruler of Russia and Prussia, rejects the papal document saying the Jesuits can stay.
10. Restoration Restored by Pope Pius VII in 1814. During the suppression of the Jesuits many universities and colleges were taken over and no longer belonged to the Jesuits. After restoration the Jesuits grew rapidly.
