TDM-PON solutions (e.g., GPON) are highly efficient
for connecting many users in a “best effort” manner
However, TDM-PON is not good for:
 High data-rate links with committed bandwidth
 Security-sensitive customers (e.g., banks)
 Low-latency links (e.g., fronthaul)

Grey optics are very efficient for the realization of
point-to-point connections
However, grey optics are not good for:
 Customers with limited fiber availability
 High channel-count applications (high opex)
 Linear add/drop configurations (prone to error)
