Agora’s New Program
for Collaborative Artistic Practices
in Berlin, Germany.
Module I: 28th February until 28th May 2014
Module II: 11th July until 19th September 2014
Module III: 23 September until 18th December 2014
AFFECT is conceptualized by Agora Collective e.V.,
2014 Program is mediated by Eric Ellingsen (US),
John Holten (IR), Rodrigo Maltez-Novaes (BR), Sarah
Lewis (US), Diego Agulló (ES), Judith Lavagna (FR)
and Fotini Lazaridou-Hatzigoga (GR). The Program is
kindly supported by Goethe Institut Sao Paulo and
Instituto Cervantes Berlin.
AFFECT

is Agora’s program for collaborative artistic practices in Berlin.
AFFECT 2014 was conceived as a residency program with duration of 3 months. Eight selected participants of various disciplines
developed a collaborative project under the subject of “Social Art Practice – where does art intersect with the social?”
Significant elements of this program were the encounters with professionals based in Berlin, with whom Agora has established
partnerships: spaces, artists, curators and a range of cross-disciplinary professionals. These encounters stimulate the participants in
their research and provide the necessary tools to let their efforts manifest themselves. Participants were assisted in producing pieces,
developing talks, collaborating with other initiatives and in meeting communities that they want to involve in their research.
The outcome of the research and conclusion of Affect consisted of a final group exhibition presented and hosted by one
of Agora’s partner spaces, together with the launch of a publication of the entire project developed by
Broken Dimanche Press throughout the residency process.
The entire program was structured in 5 phases facilitated by professionals from different fields based in Berlin
and leaded by a moderator. The different phases of the project were:
Contextualizing / Nourishment / Conceptualizing / Materializing / Outcome.
AFFECT 2014 was facilitated by: Diego Agulló, Eric Ellingsen, John Holten, Judith Lavagna, Fotini Lazaridou-Hatzigoga,
Sarah Lewis, Rodrigo Maltez-Novaes, Yves Mettler, Lorenzo Sandoval, and coordinated by Paz Ponce.
AFFECT 2014 was kindly supported by Goethe Institut São Paulo, Instituto Cervantes Berlin,
Kulturnetzwerk Neukölln e.V, L’Atelier Kunst Spiel Raum and Broken Dimanche Press.
Agora is a project space based in Neukölln that hosts people and
projects based on a philosophy that reflects the values of its
community: diversity, self-organisation and social ties. agora sees itself
as a prototype of a micro-community with the intention of defining
new ways of interactions and working in today’ s context, developing
formats that work as means of researching and producing collectively
in the fields of food, Work, art and learn.
Housed in a restored altbau in the heart of Neukölln in Berlin, this
multidisciplinary project space is a cultural hub where educational,
artistic, and entrepreneurial values are cultivated and exchanged.
With bright large spaces, art studios, silent zones and a bustling cafe,
Agora provides a complex that can be transformed and curated for a
range of uses and purposes.

“Model Behaviours” presents an assembly of approaches to ideas of the social, the
site, and the audience. The artists-in-residence in Agora developed a series of
ambiguous situations that explore intersections between art and the social
proposed during the different phases of the residency.
Conceived as an experience-led event, “Model Behaviours” presents speculative
choreographies of both the space and the audience. The event is orchestrated by
actions, instructional signage and object installation that loosely-demarcate the
exhibition space of Instituto Cervantes into zones for audience interaction.
With the kind support of Goethe Institut Sao Paulo, Instituto Cervantes Berlin,
Broken Dimanche Press, Agora Collective e.V. and Barefoot Wine.

unbreaken is a project that imbricates
workshops sessions, performative
interventions, frameworks and a process-
oriented timeline in and out the doors of
the residency during the last 8 weeks.
unbreaken is an invented formula, a
constitutive organism made of
overlapping movements and gestures
related to unbroken (constant, endless,
uninterrupted) and break(alter, crack,
breach).
unbreaken is an embedded experience
based on persistence and disruption
practiced through a publication, an
exhibition project and a program* hosted
by the artists-in-residence. Together, they
invite the audience to orbit different
situations and events happening at
L’Atelier-KSR and into public spaces, in
order to exercise, perform and transmit
their production. Through multiple entry
point and mutabilities, the public is
confronted with an experimental
collaborative approach to a publication
that exceeds its material boundaries and
finds its selves taking over spaces,
relationships and even dreams. Passages
are channeled and activated through a
stream of collisions and implosions in
and around the space of the exhibition
between September 13th to 19th.

  • 2. AFFECT
is Agora’s program for collaborative artistic practices in Berlin. AFFECT 2014 was conceived as a residency program with duration of 3 months. Eight selected participants of various disciplines developed a collaborative project under the subject of “Social Art Practice – where does art intersect with the social?” Significant elements of this program were the encounters with professionals based in Berlin, with whom Agora has established partnerships: spaces, artists, curators and a range of cross-disciplinary professionals. These encounters stimulate the participants in their research and provide the necessary tools to let their efforts manifest themselves. Participants were assisted in producing pieces, developing talks, collaborating with other initiatives and in meeting communities that they want to involve in their research. The outcome of the research and conclusion of Affect consisted of a final group exhibition presented and hosted by one of Agora’s partner spaces, together with the launch of a publication of the entire project developed by Broken Dimanche Press throughout the residency process. The entire program was structured in 5 phases facilitated by professionals from different fields based in Berlin and leaded by a moderator. The different phases of the project were: Contextualizing / Nourishment / Conceptualizing / Materializing / Outcome. AFFECT 2014 was facilitated by: Diego Agulló, Eric Ellingsen, John Holten, Judith Lavagna, Fotini Lazaridou-Hatzigoga, Sarah Lewis, Rodrigo Maltez-Novaes, Yves Mettler, Lorenzo Sandoval, and coordinated by Paz Ponce. AFFECT 2014 was kindly supported by Goethe Institut São Paulo, Instituto Cervantes Berlin, Kulturnetzwerk Neukölln e.V, L’Atelier Kunst Spiel Raum and Broken Dimanche Press.

Agora is a project space based in Neukölln that hosts people and projects based on a philosophy that reflects the values of its community: diversity, self-organisation and social ties. agora sees itself as a prototype of a micro-community with the intention of defining new ways of interactions and working in today’ s context, developing formats that work as means of researching and producing collectively in the fields of food, Work, art and learn. Housed in a restored altbau in the heart of Neukölln in Berlin, this multidisciplinary project space is a cultural hub where educational, artistic, and entrepreneurial values are cultivated and exchanged. With bright large spaces, art studios, silent zones and a bustling cafe, Agora provides a complex that can be transformed and curated for a range of uses and purposes. Contact: AFFECT at Agora

Broken Dimanche Press, “Model Behaviours” presents an assembly of approaches to ideas of the social, the site, and the audience. The artists-in-residence in Agora developed a series of ambiguous situations that explore intersections between art and the social proposed during the different phases of the residency. Conceived as an experience-led event, “Model Behaviours” presents speculative choreographies of both the space and the audience. The event is orchestrated by actions, instructional signage and object installation that loosely-demarcate the exhibition space of Instituto Cervantes into zones for audience interaction. With the kind support of Goethe Institut Sao Paulo, Instituto Cervantes Berlin, Broken Dimanche Press, Agora Collective e.V. and Barefoot Wine. ‘Model Behaviours’ Residency outcome AFFECT module I

 F.U.K laboratories Venue:
 L’Atelier-KSR Berlin Dates:
13-19th September 2014 unbreaken is a project that imbricates workshops sessions, performative interventions, frameworks and a process- oriented timeline in and out the doors of the residency during the last 8 weeks. unbreaken is an invented formula, a constitutive organism made of overlapping movements and gestures related to unbroken (constant, endless, uninterrupted) and break(alter, crack, breach). unbreaken is an embedded experience based on persistence and disruption practiced through a publication, an exhibition project and a program* hosted by the artists-in-residence. Together, they invite the audience to orbit different situations and events happening at L’Atelier-KSR and into public spaces, in order to exercise, perform and transmit their production. Through multiple entry point and mutabilities, the public is confronted with an experimental collaborative approach to a publication that exceeds its material boundaries and finds its selves taking over spaces, relationships and even dreams. Passages are channeled and activated through a stream of collisions and implosions in and around the space of the exhibition between September 13th to 19th. ‘unbreaken’ Residency outcome AFFECT module II * Program: 13.09 – Opening of unbreaken, publication launch | L’atelier-ksr 7-10pm 14.09 – Movie projection hosted by artists in residence | L’atelier-ksr 6-9pm 15.09 – ‘Take the book for a walk’ | various locations. meeting point: L’Atelier-ksr 4pm 16.09 – Experiencing the publication into public spaces | various locations.
