1. Summary:
Outgoing individual with a passion for science and medicine. Has a special interest in neurodegenerative diseases and
neuropharmacology with an expertise in molecular mechanisms of Huntingtons Disease. Two years’ experience working in a
Huntington’s Disease focused research laboratory at Western Washington University preparing tissue and conducting various staining
procedures. I’m ultimately looking to more fully develop my laboratory experience in preparation for graduate school opportunities.
Relevant Experience:
Research Assistant, Western Washington University November 2012 - March 2015
ᵒ Proficient at transcardial perfusions and can prepare formaldehyde fixed and frozen animal tissue and section using a
cryostat. Conduct staining using immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, Oil Red O, Hematoxylin and Eosin Y, and Cresyl
Violet. Ability to delicately mount 25 micron free floating sections onto microscope slides or dry mount 5 micron sections directly
from a cryostat. Competent in quantification and analysis of data using R statistical programming language. Recognize aberrant
neuronal and hepatic anatomy indicative of disease. Through this experience, I have developed an excellent understanding of
appropriate laboratory maintenance, safety precautions, and general conduct.

using Neurolucida Neuron Tracing Software (Olympus BX51).
Previous Projects (Jeff Carroll’s Lab)
My work with Dr. Carroll was primarily focused on immunohistochemical staining of mouse tissue for the purpose of
establishing end-point pathology markers in our mouse model of Huntington’s Disease. I have been introduced to a wealth of
genomic and molecular techniques and received a well-rounded introduction to the laboratory atmosphere. I was fortunate enough to
receive two paid summer internships to continue my work in lab while between academic quarters. In addition, my work was
summarized in poster format at Western’s Scholars Week and Psych Fest where I was awarded Best Poster by the dean of the college.
