Sample Goals for Social Media Strategic Planning

GOAL: Inform incoming freshmen of core library services.
• Step 1: Get them to friend us on Facebook and/or Twitter
– Create marketing materials for website, LibGuides (Sarah Steiner with marketing
coordinator, due 8/31/2013)
– Target incoming students at orientation with marketing message
(Sarah Steiner, due 9/1/2013)
– Market to freshman leaders (Student Gov Association, Honors Ambassadors, etc.)
(Cliff Landis, due 9/1/2013)
• Step 2: Generate content
– Post about a service once weekly (use chart on intranet)

– Manage one social media game/contest in first half of term, one in second half.

– Post one “freshman pick” each Tuesday afternoon (use chart on intranet)

GOAL*: Develop a relationship with primary school teachers to share our message with school
children. To be completed by August 1, 20xx.
Activity: Develop a comprehensive database of primary school teachers. (responsibility:
student assistant X)
Activity: Create a starter group of teachers (you can include a goal number, if you like).
(Responsibility: librarian y)
o Invite primary school teachers to the library and allow them to experience the
importance of our space and services first-hand.
Activity: Provide teachers with items they can give away to their readers. Perhaps Book
x, Book y, or a particular resource kit. (Responsibility: librarian z)
