…then reply by voice. 100% handsfree. Listen to your incoming texts and emails… A brief guide to setting up and using Hi!Way
Before we start, an important note about audio output and Hi!Way… Make sure you have your media volume turned up! You can listen to your messages via: Headphones (we recommend earbud headphones with inline mic) Bluetooth® devices (they must support audio media profile) Your Android’s speakerphone
Step 1: set up your email Go to Settings and add your credentials to enable your email account. Add as many email accounts as you want. Note: unfortunately we do not support Outlook Exchange – yet!
Don’t want your emails read out? Go to Settings and check: ‘Play SMS Only’
Step 2: power cycle for best results After setting your preferences we strongly recommend you: Power off your phone Power it back on Hi!Way is ready to go!
Step 3: after power cycling, select the mode you prefer Tap the ‘Mode’ button on the Home screen to select: or Hi!Way works the same in both modes… …EXCEPT for launch and quit, which are quite different.
Launch in Manual mode Same as all apps, tap the launcher icon on the phone’s Home screen. Hi!Way will read out all messages (whether you are driving or not). Hi!Way
Quit in Manual mode Tap the Quit button on Hi!Way’s Home screen.
Launch in Auto mode Auto mode is Hi!Way’s default Setting. Hi!Way will launch automatically when you start driving. You don’t need to tap a thing! Motion is detected using GPS.
Quit in Auto mode Hi!Way does NOT completely quit* in Auto mode. Instead, it just exits to ‘sleep’ in the background. You can tell it’s ‘sleeping’ by the icon turning to black & white in the notification bar. *Switch to Manual mode if you want to control when Hi!Way fully quits.
How does it know when to Exit? Hi!Way will stop reading out your messages when it detects you are stationary for longer than 5/10/15mins (see Settings). Alternatively, you can tap the Exit button on Hi!Way’s Home screen.
How does it know when to Launch again? Hi!Way will automatically ‘wake up’ and re-launch the next time it detects you are driving. You don’t need to tap a thing!
Step 4: Now that you’ve selected Auto or Manual mode… Do nothing! Hi!Way is running, which means you don’t have to do a thing… …except wait for an SMS or email to come in.
What happens when a message comes in? Hi!Way prompts you with commands via audio AND on screen. In response, you can either: SAY what you want to do – OR – TAP the corresponding buttons. For example, say or or tap Ignore Listen
Ignore If you say/tap: The message is NOT read out. However, messages can always be viewed in the SMS or email message thread, as per normal.
Listen If you say/tap: The message is read out. After the message is read out, you are prompted with four options: Reply Call back Listen again Ignore message
Again If you say/tap: The message is read out again.
Call If you say/tap: The person that sent the SMS is automatically dialed. Note: call back only works in response to an SMS, not an email.
Reply If you say/tap: You will hear a 3-2-1 countdown set of beeps… Then, after the 4th longer beep… You start saying your reply.
When you are replying.. Speak normally, and slightly louder if you’re in noisy surroundings. Note: the recording duration lasts up to 30 seconds (which is a lot longer than you think!)
Then what? When Hi!Way detects a 3 second silence*, it assumes you have finished your reply. It immediately begins transcribing what you said into an SMS or email. *It doesn’t wait for the full 30 seconds – that would be really annoying!
You can listen to the transcription before you send it ‘Verify Email/SMS reply’ is a default Setting. Hi!Way will immediately read back the transcription so you can decide if you are happy with it. After listening, you are prompted with four options: Repeat message Send New reply Cancel sending Your reply is: Sorry, I’m running late. I’ll meet you at the bar probably at8 o’clock.
Repeat If you say/tap: Hi!Way reads out the reply again.
New If you say/tap: The 3-2-1 countdown will begin and you can record your reply again. (You can do this as many times as you wish).
Cancel If you say/tap: Hi!Way doesn’t send the reply. Note: your transcribed reply is deleted from the phone. Your reply is: Now running really late. I’ll meet you at the bar probably around 9 o’clock.
Send If you say/tap: The reply is immediately sent. Your reply is: Sorry, I’m running late. I’ll meet you at the bar probably around 8 o’clock.
Message sent! Hi!Way will confirm that your SMS or email has been sent. If there are more messages waiting for you, Hi!Way will automatically read out each one in the order that they came in.
If you find the ‘Verify reply?’ feature annoying, you can disable it Go to Settings and check: ‘No, don’t check reply’ This feature can be set independently for SMS and email.
And finally… two top tips for conserving battery while using Hi!Way INCREASE the number in the ‘Email check interval’ Setting so Hi!Way checks less frequently for incoming emails. Alternatively, plug your phone into the car charger while you’re driving.
