C.H.A.M.B.E.R. Leadership Academy


              C.H.A.M.B.E.R. Leadership Academy

              The Atlanta Metropolitan Black Chamber of Commerce’s Family
              Preservation Initiative will launch its Leadership Academy for youth
              and young adults in December 2011. The Leadership Academy will
              focus on academic enrichment, entrepreneurial education and training
              and cultural exposure.

              Core Curriculum

              Personal Assessment-Goal Setting and Time Management ( 6 hours)
              Academic Enrichment and Career Planning (30 hours)
              Strategic Planning (12 hours)
              Financial Management /Planning (12 hours)
              Business Development (20 hours)
              Marketing and Brand Development (12 hours)
              Work Life Balance-Maintaining healthy and productive lifestyles (12
              hours)
              Exposure Opportunities (48 hours)
Class Segmentation


             Grades/ages of student participants

             The C.H.A.M.B.E.R. Leadership Academy will serve students from
             Pre-K 3– 19 years of age. To participate, students’ parents or legal
             guardians must be an active member of the AMBCC or its affiliate
             partners. Maximum class size per category is 10-15.

             Class Segmentation and Developmental Tracking Timeline

             Pre-K3-1      Graduating Classes of 2022-2021 (10 available slots)

             Grade 2-4     Graduating Classes of 2020-18 (10 available slots)

             Grades 5-7    Graduating Classes of 2017-15 (10 available slots)

             Grades 8-11 Graduating Classes of 2014-12 (10 available slots)

             Grades 12-14 Graduating Classes 2011/2015-16 (10 available slots)
Annual Programs


            The CHAMBER Leadership Academy is a year round leadership
            training program filled with executive interactions and our
            entrepreneurial focused curriculum. The program includes seven
            annual programs, exposure tours, foreign language exposure,
            weekend retreats and several hands on technical and business
            development projects.

            Summer Academic Enrichment (August 2-5, 2011)

            Winter Academic Enrichment (December 27-29, 2011)

            Fulfilling the Dream Weekend and Retreat (January 14-16, 2012)

            My Legacy Project and Heritage Tour (February 2012)

            Spring Break Leadership Academy and Exposure Tours (March-April)
            2012)

            Annual Awards Celebration and Reception (May 2012)

            Summer Leadership Academy and Exposure Tours (June-August

             Personal Assessments

             Assessment Leader: Dr. Melonie Hill (Behavioral Management Group)

             The C.H.A.M.B.E.R. Leadership Academy adheres to the importance
             of assessing each participant’s abilities, interests , and strengths.
             Additionally benchmark assessments will be conducted at varying
             intervals in order to track their progress during the year-long leadership
             academy.

             Assessment strategies Include:

             • Direct observations
             •Interviews
             •Surveys
             •Assessment tools
             •Consultation with Parents
             •Collection of collateral information
I. Spelling, Creative Writing and Debate (SCWAD)



                 Spelling, Creative Writing and Debate (SCWAD)

                 Program Team Leader: Lisa McNeill

                 SCWAD is an academic enrichment program initiative facilitated by the
                 C.H.A.M.B.E.R. Leadership Academy which is designed to inspire
                 young literary minds and nurture their passion for reading, writing and
                 language arts through various creative and interactive means.

                 Areas of Focus:

                 Vocabulary enrichment with focus on spelling, phonics and reading
                 comprehension. Participant’s skills will be challenged via competitive
                 games, spelling bees and interactive learning challenges.

                 Creative writing sessions will encourage participants to put their
                 thoughts on paper and produce a literary product (poetry, scripts,
                 reports, position papers, short stories, books, etc.)

                 Debate and Speech will help polish oral communication and public
                 speaking skiills.

II. Mathematics, Finance and Economic Principles
(MFAEP)


                 Mathematics, Finance and Economic Principles (MFAEP)

                 Program Team Leader: Joe Johnson (Interim Leader)

                 MFAEP is an academic enrichment program initiative facilitated by the
                 C.H.A.M.B.E.R. Leadership Academy which is designed to inspire
                 young mathematical and financial minds to nurture their passion for
                 problem-solving through various logical and interactive means.

                 Areas of Focus:

                 The teaching and mastery of mathematical principles and methods for
                 solving problems through addition, subtraction, multiplication, division,
                 geometry, calculus, functions, graphs, stats and other algorithms.
                 Participants’ skills will be challenged via competitive probability games
                 and competitions.

                 Simulation sessions will test participant’s skills and abilities in real
                 word scenarios. (etc. The Stock Market Game, Global Economics
                 Game),
III. Natural Sciences, Chemistry and Environmental
Studies


                  Natural Sciences, Chemistry and Environmental Studies

                  Program Team Leader: Vedas Burkeen, Excel Science

                  MFAEP is an academic enrichment program initiative facilitated by the
                  C.H.A.M.B.E.R. Leadership Academy which is designed to foster
                  young scientific minds to nurture their curiosity and critical thinking
                  through various experiments and research projects.

                  Areas of Focus:

                  The teaching and mastery of the sciences (astronomy, earth, biology,
                  chemistry and physics) Participants will conduct research and
                  experimentation and exchange ideas via innovative challenges.

                  Field Trips and simulation sessions will allow participants to interact
                  with practicing researchers.

                  Simulation session will test participants’ skills and abilities in real word
                  scenarios. (i.e. Popcorn Science and more)

                  Participant’s will be encouraged to participate in an annual science and
                  engineer competition.
IV. Citizenship, Sociology and World History
(CSAW)


                   Citizenship, Sociology and World History (CSAW)

                   Program Team Leader: Leland Buggie & Sandra Brown

                   CSAW is an academic enrichment program initiative facilitated by the
                   C.H.A.M.B.E.R. Leadership Academy which is designed to inspire
                   young world scholars to nurture their passion for diverse cultures,
                   history and current events.

                   Areas of Focus:

                    Participants will be exposed to world cultures, philosophy, politics
                   while also learning critical thinking techniques. Participants will be
                   challenged to defend an opinion via debate, petition and assembly.

                   Participants will also have the opportunity to learn basic skills of an
                   identified foreign language. (Selected foreign language for 2012 is
                   Chinese)

                   Simulation sessions will test participants’ ability to lead and organize in
                   a real word scenario. (How to Run for Office / I’m an Ambassador)

                   Debate and Speech will be emphasized to help polish oral
                   communication skills and enhance public speaking abilities.
V. Principles of Ownership (Entrepreneurship,
             Investments and Estate Planning)

                                            POO is an academic enrichment program initiative facilitated by the
                   Holistic                 C.H.A.M.B.E.R. Leadership Academy which is designed to inspire
                  Education                 young innovative minds to nurture their passion for entrepreneurship.

                                            Areas of Focus:

                                            The teaching and mastery of conceptualization and innovative thinking
              Ownership                     will be provided. Participate will discover their true talents and
                                            strengths. Participants will learn how to incorporate their current
                                            educational experiences with entrepreneurial principles to help identify

Spelling, Creative Writing and Debate (SCWAD) Spelling, Creative Writing and Debate (SCWAD) Program Team Leader: Lisa McNeill SCWAD is an academic enrichment program initiative facilitated by the C.H.A.M.B.E.R. Leadership Academy which is designed to inspire young literary minds and nurture their passion for reading, writing and language arts through various creative and interactive means. Areas of Focus: Vocabulary enrichment with focus on spelling, phonics and reading comprehension. Participant’s skills will be challenged via competitive games, spelling bees and interactive learning challenges. Creative writing sessions will encourage participants to put their thoughts on paper and produce a literary product (poetry, scripts, reports, position papers, short stories, books, etc.) Debate and Speech will help polish oral communication and public speaking skiills. ..

Mathematics, Finance and Economic Principles (MFAEP) Mathematics, Finance and Economic Principles (MFAEP) Program Team Leader: Joe Johnson (Interim Leader) MFAEP is an academic enrichment program initiative facilitated by the C.H.A.M.B.E.R. Leadership Academy which is designed to inspire young mathematical and financial minds to nurture their passion for problem-solving through various logical and interactive means. Areas of Focus: The teaching and mastery of mathematical principles and methods for solving problems through addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, geometry, calculus, functions, graphs, stats and other algorithms. Participants’ skills will be challenged via competitive probability games and competitions. Simulation sessions will test participant’s skills and abilities in real word scenarios. Natural Sciences, Chemistry and Environmental Studies Natural Sciences, Chemistry and Environmental Studies Program Team Leader: Vedas Burkeen, Excel Science MFAEP is an academic enrichment program initiative facilitated by the C.H.A.M.B.E.R. Leadership Academy which is designed to foster young scientific minds to nurture their curiosity and critical thinking through various experiments and research projects. Areas of Focus: The teaching and mastery of the sciences (astronomy, earth, biology, chemistry and physics) Participants will conduct research and experimentation and exchange ideas via innovative challenges. Field Trips and simulation sessions will allow participants to interact with practicing researchers. Simulation session will test participants’ skills and abilities in real word scenarios. (i.e. Popcorn Science and more) Participant’s will be encouraged to participate in an annual science and engineer competition.

Citizenship, Sociology and World History (CSAW) Citizenship, Sociology and World History (CSAW) Program Team Leader: Leland Buggie & Sandra Brown CSAW is an academic enrichment program initiative facilitated by the C.H.A.M.B.E.R. Leadership Academy which is designed to inspire young world scholars to nurture their passion for diverse cultures, history and current events. Areas of Focus: Participants will be exposed to world cultures, philosophy, politics while also learning critical thinking techniques. Participants will be challenged to defend an opinion via debate, petition and assembly. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn basic skills of an identified foreign language. (Selected foreign language for 2012 is Chinese) Simulation sessions will test participants’ ability to lead and organize in a real word scenario. (How to Run for Office / I’m an Ambassador) Debate and Speech will be emphasized to help polish oral communication skills and enhance public speaking abilities.

Areas of Focus: The teaching and mastery of conceptualization and innovative thinking Ownership will be provided. Participate will discover their true talents and strengths. Participants will learn how to incorporate their current educational experiences with entrepreneurial principles to help identify Entrepreneurial Life Cycle future professional endeavors. Principles Development Participants will also be taught sort skills that will be necessary for their educational and professional pursuits. Simulation sessions will test participants skills and abilities in a real word scenario. (Becoming the CEO) .
