Raipur : Ram and Lakshman, the ten-month-old conjoined twins who were successfully separated after a gruelling operation by a team of five doctors at the Raipur Medical College Hospital here, are doing fine.<br />Dr. Ashok, the Head of the Department of Surgery, said the operation had gone off well.The team of doctors performing the operation is Dr.Ashok Sharma, Dr. Anil Haripriya,Dr.sandeep chandrakar,Dr.D.Saha Dr.A.Memon S included five physicians and three anaesthetists.quot;
It was a rare case with no previous exposure. The kids were very weak when they were brought here. We nurtured them for eight long months and provided them with all necessary nutrition. We promised their parents that we will separate them,” said Dr. Ameen Memon, one of the doctors.The liver, pancreas and sternum (breastbone) were separated during the surgery, which lasted for five hours. No complications were reported during the event.Prior to surgery, both babies shared a common liver, pancreas and some otherportions of the body. Fortunately their heart and urinary organs wereseparate.The doctors took up the responsibility of meeting the cost of milk, other nutrients and medicines for the kids during their eight-month long stay in hospital.Prabhawati, the mother of twins, said she was happy and requested the State Government to provide them with a good education.Ram Prasad Kohl, the father of twins, appealed for a job in the hospital to take care of his children.Ram Prasad is now working in the canteen. <br />
