Executive Summary – India EV Market, 2018-2025
Government of India wants to see 6 million electric and hybrid vehicles on the
roads by 2020 under the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP)
2020 and Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles
(FAME).
FAME India Scheme was implemented with effect from 1st April 2015, with
the objective to support hybrid/electric vehicles' market development and
Manufacturing eco-system.
Under the central scheme, a subsidy of US$28 to US$ 344 is offered to two-
wheelers, US$ 172 to US$ 2156 lakh to cars, US$ 203 for Mild hybrids.
Scheme has four focus areas, i.e. Technology development, Demand Creation,
Pilot Projects and Charging Infrastructure.
Phase-I of the scheme was implemented over a period of 2 years starting, 1st
April 2015. The scheme was extended in March 2017.
India has 163032 electric vehicles on road in October 2017 which are mainly 2-
wheelers and 3-Wheelers in Tier I and II cities. With the GDP per capita
growth, increase in Personal Disposable Income and heightened
environmental concerns by the citizens of India the electric vehicle market is
slated to grow a healthy rate in the forecast period 2017-2025.
