What is Counseling?
Counseling is a professional
relationship that empowers diverse
individuals,families and
groups to accomplish mental health,
wellness
and education and career goals

4. Counseling is a professional relationship
between a trained counselor
and a client designed to help client to
understand and clarify their views
of their life space and to learn to reach their
self determined goal through
resolution of problems of an emotional or
interpersonal nature

Counseling and psychotherapy are umbrella terms that cover a range of talking therapies.
They are delivered by trained practitioners who work with people over a
short or long term to help people being about effective change or
enhance their wellbeing.

7. Egan model is a model used alot in counseling
psychology where the object is to achieve lasting
change and to empower people to manage their
own problems more effectively and to develop
unused opportunities more fully.
The 3 major models are Exploration, Challenging And Action.
Exploration: What is going on? Building the helping relationship and exploration
Challenging: What do I want instead? New understanding and offering different perspective.
Action: How might i achieve what I want? Helping the client to develop and use helping strategies.

8. Most of us live by a certain set of values that guide our behavior and
mark the difference between right and wrong. These values almost
certainly influence how you approach your work as a counselor.
However, when practicing counseling, working without a defined
counseling code of ethics is a big like sailing a ship without using a
compass. You might trust your intuitive sense of direction but more
often than not,you will end up miles off course.
Here's a few Ethics we have in counseling psychology.
1.Autonomy is the respect for the client free will
2.Beneficence and non- maleficence are the commitment to improve a client's wellbeing and avoid harming
them respectively
