Fonts and colour
1. Fonts and ColourColour and font play a massive role in establishing the bases of genre
and target audience and the over all mood of the magazine, when the
font and colour doesn’t reflect the magazine it can become confusing
and also very misleading to the audience.
2. HAPPY HAPPYTimes New Roman (Body). This
is one of the most traditional
fonts normally associated with
News and information magazines.
The lines are strict and straight
without any curved lines even the
letters with bowed edges it still
produces a harsh regimented
edge.
Curlz MT. This is a more of a casual font the
curls continuation off the letters are more
related to teen girls who listen to pop music or
it appears to be more of a doodle on a note
pad than a font that has any importance.
However it does suit the word HAPPY more
than the other font does, proving that font
does make you interpret words in a different
way because of how they are written.

All of these fonts are cursive and very elegant, this would
normally be seen on very formal event such as a wedding or
a awards evening, this font wouldn’t suit a Rock magazine
nor any others apart from possibly Jazz or Classical but
even still the font is very difficult to read when you are not
very close to the page.
4. Handwriting
Harlow Solid Italic is more of a font that denotes a rock
magazine this is because of the harsh bold lines and how thick
each of the letters are. It also makes everything quite straight in
a line and all of the letters look stencilled and look the same.
Handwriting
Gigi is more of a pop handwriting due to the swirls and shaky
appearance, it looks casual and almost messy, it very childish or
teenager like and defiantly looks like a handwriting of
someone.
5. Display fonts are meant to be Big, Bold and are suppose to stand out as this is what a
masthead consists of and maybe the main cover line. This has to reflect the genre of the
magazine as this is the first thing that the audience will see, so it has to be perfectly
harmonious with the message you want to be sent to your Target audience.
6. Colour is very important
as it can reflect a message
and mood, colours next to
each other on the colour
wheel are called
harmonious colours and
can come in a lot of
shades however using all
these will not make it
stand out, where as if you
use opposite colours
(complementary) colours
they make things stand
out however you have to
be careful with the shades
as two very bright colour
will clash.
7.
8. POP MUSIC
Wrong choice! There are many reasons why this is bad choice. The red and very
murky green/ brown doesn’t compliment each other and makes it look dull. With
the masthead of POP MUSIC the colours need to bright with pink or blue or even
yellow and not a harsh red and gross brown/green. The font is the other thing that
is wrong it is very straight edged and not curly or cursive like a pop music should
connote, it is dragging down the normal light heartedness of pop music, with girly
popstars and attractive boy bands.
