3. What is
Transformer?
A transformer is an electrical
device which, by the principles
of electromagnetic induction,
transfers electrical energy from
one electric circuit to another,
without changing the
frequency.
9. Instrument transformers are high accuracy class electrical
devices used to isolate or transform voltage or current levels.
Instrument Transformer
A current transformer (CT) is a
type of transformer that is used to
reduce or multiply an alternating
current (AC). It produces a current
in its secondary which is
proportional to the current in its
primary. Current transformers,
along with voltage or potential
transformers, are instrument
transformers.
A Potential transformer is
actually an instrument
transformer that used in
power systems to step down
primary current votages and
secondary voltages from a
higher level to lower
secondary potential output
voltage level.
10. A transformer that increases the voltage from primary
to secondary (more secondary winding turns than
primary winding turns) is called a step-up
transformer. Conversely, a transformer designed to do
just the opposite is called a step-down transformer.

11. Single phase transformer contains
two coils, one on the primary side,
and another one on the secondary
side,
Three phase transformer contains
six coils, three for primary side,
and another three coils for the
secondary side.

12. The Power transformer is a one
kind of transformer, that is used
to transfer electrical energy in
any part of the electrical or
electronic circuit between the
generator and the distribution
primary circuits.
These transformers are used in
distribution systems to interface
step up and step down voltages.

13. Distribution Transformer is an
electrical
isolation transformer which convert
high-voltage electricity to lower
voltage levels acceptable for use in
homes and business.
A distribution transformer's function
is straightforward: to step down the
voltage and provide isolation
between primary and secondary.

14. Regulating alternating
current.All transformers have one basic
function: increasing or decreasing
alternating current within the electrical
system.
Stopping and starting the flow of electricity.
Battery charging.
