2. My preliminary task covers very little conventions as I have only used a large
masthead and a few cover lines based around the genre of the magazine but
the majority of the conventions of a typical magazine are missing as I was
unclear of what should have been incorporated. But with research I learnt
about stereotypical conventions, to which I included.
My images are now suited to a specific as I have included an image that are
conventional of the genre because of the mid shot which is conventional,
whereas, beforehand I was unaware of this.
3. My use of photography has improved as my images on the preliminary task is
very unconventional and I didn’t consider any shot types or angles. The images
have been improved massively in my finished product as it features a
conventional mid shot of the artist and varied amount of close ups.
The use of mise-en-scene is more conventional to the genre as I have included
a neutral background to make the image stand out which I didn’t originally do, I
have also used dresses which is appealing to the target audience of girls,
whereas in my preliminary task wouldn’t of appealed to a mass audience
because it is unclear of who it is aimed at.
4. In my preliminary task I didn’t incorporate a very appealing
layout, even though it looks organised as I wasn’t clear on what
the right conventions were to include, but I have now included a
more conventional layout on my front cover as I have used the
route of th eye as I found that it was conventional to the genre
and I knew the target audience would find it appealing
5. My image editing has improved since my preliminary task as I didn’t
edit an images on my front cover as I didn’t see it as important and
didn’t know about the specific software that I needed to make it
appealing, whereas in my finished product I edited the brightness of
my background, to make my front cover conventional, compared to
a real magazine and therefore appealing to my audience.
6. The fonts I have used in my preliminary task were not conventional as
was unclear of what appealed to an audience. I also used the same font
throughout my preliminary task which is not conventional or appealing as I
was also unclear of the conventions, but I have improved this I am clear of
the conventions and have included a consistent house style, showing a
varied amount of conventional and appealing fonts to my audience
7. The colours I have used on my preliminary are bland and dull. This would be very
unappealing to m target audience. The colours are also not very conventional of the
genre, therefore doesn’t help appeal to the audience. This has been improved as my
knowledge of what colours convey and how they represent artists on the page,
helped to create a successful magazine as includes appealing colours which are
bright and stand out – to attract the audience and it is clear that it is suited to the
genre as the colour represents girls, which relates to the female population in my
magazine and relates to my target audience of girls which is appealing.
8. The mode of address on my preliminary is very unclear to myself and to
the audience, as I didn’t originally know how to represent my magazine to
the audience. But since then my knowledge has improved an now my final
magazine cover conveys a convectional mode of address with
connotations such as friendly and chatty tone and the colours which create
a girly and fun atmosphere of the pop genre which appeals to my target
audience.
9. My preliminary task includes some correct conventions of a real magazine as
some real magazines influenced my plan when researching. Since creating
this its helped me gain more knowledge on the importance of conventions in a
magazine to encourage and appeal to an audience. My final contents page
now includes many conventions; layout, images, colours and fonts. This would
appeal to my target audience as they all add together to make a successful
and appealing piece to look at, which represents them and fulfils their
interests.
10. My use of photography and my mise-en-scene can’t be compared as I
didn’t manage to create a mock up on my contents page which would have
been visual as it is only a draft, but I have learnt about the conventions that
appeal and suit the genre of the magazine and appeal to the target
audience, which I wasn’t originally too clear on when completing my
preliminary task which is clear as I didn’t organise my page in a very
conventional way.
11. I have some structure when completing my preliminary task as I looked
upon some real magazines. But I didn’t what order portrayed a
conventional image to my magazine. I achieved this in my final product as I
included 5 categories, which looked organised but yet busy as I included a
lot of features and text which is conventional to the magazine.
12. In my preliminary task I didn’t consider the use of conventional fonts and
colours to appeal to my audience. Whereas, with research I completed
this well as I knew how to represent the artists on the page – which would
also represent the audience by the use of colours being fun and outgoing
and the fonts be girly. This therefore made my contents page appealing to
the audience.
13. In my preliminary task I didn’t focus on the mode of address within my
contents page as I was unclear of what my articles would include. However,
in my final product the audience would receive a friendly tone as they are
being spoken to by an editor which would be appealing, it would also come
across as informative as I have included a lot of content in my articles and
the use of the highlight is informative as it is conventional to inform the
audience with important information within the magazine by the use of the
highlight.
